peninsula. all lanes are opened. video from our drive shows the interstate opened early. they aimed for 5:00 a.m. opening but they got it open at 2:00 a.m. with the concrete and paint dry so they opened it. crews closed the lanes on thursday night to work on a hinge that allows the bridge to expand and contract. caltran took advantage of the closing and got their crews out here to do bake work such as replacing signs. they are calling it a productive and successful weekend with no major problems reported. they are not done with the hinge work. they need fourth of july and labor day week, as well, to complete the work so this will be more shut downs but then it will be the northbound side. 6:02. now the latest on the deadly rampage at uc santa barbara with classes canceled for today for a day of reflection and mourning

to honor the six students who lost their lives. this afternoon a memorial is held for friends and family to rebel their loved ones. >> we are hearing from the parents of a bay area victim. matt keller is in san jose with what the parents are revealing about the fight they were notified of their son's death. >> a student who was killed in isla vista was a student at lynbrook a few years ago at this high school. he ace add college computer class while attending here and helped out students with physics. a memorial is building at at site where hong and wang and chen were killed. chen's parents visited the memorial and wrote "george, i love you, mom and dad." when george's father learned of shootings on friday night he was not too worried because their son, george, was hanging out with his two friends at their

nick is recovered at the hospital. he was in obvious vis visiting a high school classmate when hit by elliot rodger's car. both legs were broken. his dad don't think he will be able to walk for some time and says it will be a long recovery at their home. >> the parents of 19 yearly shooting victim veronica weiss says an app led them to the crime seen. the parents say when the sheriff was unable to confirm if their daughter was among those kills and they used an app and it was in the middle of a crime scene. >> there are several events landed. a memorial service is held this afternoon at 4:00 at the stadium of uc santa barbara to honor those killed. students will build a memorial wall at the student center in the heart of isla vista and counselors are working extended hours to help students deal with the tragedy.

only they of the 13 students injured remain in the hospital. >> the co-founder of a new york-based start-up is out of a job after controversial commends on the manifesto belonging to suspect elliot rodger. he wrote the comments on the site he cofounded that allows user to comment on music and news. he wrote, some of the sentences were "artful" and beautifully written. he said i apology to everyone, i need to hear the criticisms reflect for wheel and work on becoming a better person. that wasn't enough, and multiple reports say that he has been fired from his company. police continue to look no clues into what prompted elliot rodger to go on the rampage. he e-mailed his manifesto to two dozen people shortly after posting a threatening video on friday night. exactly how the rampage began is

a key mystery stumping authorities. in the video the son of a hollywood director blames his misery on a lack of attention from women and not fitting in with the college crowd. we will have continuing coverage of rampage. at 6:30 we will check with matt keller and learn details of the missed warning signs. at 7:00, "good morning america" will be in isla vista. teachers if san francisco will march and hold a rally calling for 21 percent pay raise. the united edge indicators of san francisco is proposing the pay hike to be phased in over three years. union leaders say skyrocketing rents are forcing teachers out of san francisco and the pay increase is necessary to keep teachers in the city. the march and rally begins at 5:30 p.m.
