live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> police investigating a serious threat at a medical building in oakland right now. good morning, i am eric thomas. >> i am kristen sze. the security concern is that two kaiser permanente buildings on broadway are closed right now while police investigate. it is affecting patients with appointments or people would need prescriptions. nick is on the scene. >> this is affecting the medical personnel and staff and employees at the hospital. two of their office buildings are closed. if you look behind me you can see an office building. all we know at this time is that

they are calling it a potential security issue. this is what we know: a hospital spokesman told me there was a specific and credible criminal threat against kaiser permanente oakland prompting an increased police presence to two of the medical buildings. i spoke with oakland police who at this time have not specified what the actual threat was or continues to be. they did say that they are working with the hospital to investigate. now, officials with k permanent say they are contacting staff and pay ships about closing and they expect the closure in place until 12:30. we have seen an officers police presence but at this time employees are not sure exactly what is happening but they believe the hospital and the oakland police department have the situation under control and they feel comfortable going back to work at 12:30. thank you. the classes are canceled at uc santa barbara today as the university declare as day of mourning.

a memorial for the victims of the deadly week rampage is held at the school stadium in a few hours. in the south bay, schools are back in session for the first time since the deadly attack in isla vista. one victim, james hong went to high school in san jose where grief counselors are on hand. matt? >> this is the first day of class at lynbrook since the mass killing. students and staff are dealing with the grief after learning one of their graduates was a victim. >> this is what a nominal tuesday looks like in late may at lynbrook high school in san jose. this is not what normal feels like. something changed over the weekend when 2012 graduate james hong was murdered in the mass killing in isla vista. >> people are just deeply surprised and mortified this kid from our school was killed. >> he was a really, really, really nice kid and quiet and very smart and it is weird to know something like that could

happen to him. >> we will observe a moment silence in memory of james and the other victims and everyone affected in anyway. >> james hong wasn't a student who sought the spotlight but his honesty and effort in the classroom stood out to his teachers. his work in the drama department is still remembered today. >> he was a back stage guy, not willing to be in the lime line but extremely supportive, very diligent and hard working young man and supported the cast and crew and the drama teacher remembers him as a fantastic young man with all kinds of technical talents to support the crew. >> counselors were brought to lynbrook high school to help the teens deal with the death of their former classmate. it is not just students feeling the exact of the brutal crime committed 300 miles away. the community is feeling the grief, as well. this mother brought flowers to campus. >> the more i think of it the

more it tears at my heart and how this affects not just this generation for the generation for the whole family. >> students are invited to the library to write memorials to james and offer grief counselors there, as well. as far as graduation goes, that is just a week and a half away reporting live in san jose for abc7. >> this is the first day back for students at fremont school from which another shooting victim graduated. as they mount, there are plans to memorialize 20-year-old david wang. amy hollyfield is at fremont christian school. >> students are handling this william. it is a small fool and they feel very comfortable talking to their teachers. this is a private christian school and they also are praying with them. the administrators say david wong is remembered as a young

man who loved to play basketball. there are students would still know him and today was the first day back in class since the travel didn't. >> we mop tour our seniors particularly but any students that may need counseling or to talk it out. we waiting to see what kids have to say about that. so far, things are pretty even and the kids have the long weekend had time to think through things and talk with friends. >> wang was studying engineers one of the three elliot rodger stabbed to death inside his apartment before he went on the shooting spree. >> we had great fondness for him and of course we are devastated along with his parents that one of our students would...be gone in such a horrific way. >> his former high school is planning to dedicate the outdoor basketball court to him and will instill a lack and hold a ceremony when they return to classes in the fall. the administration says it is not just the students who they are helping. >> the faculty know their

students really well and will it is hard for them to say this young man was so much filled with promise and potential and just the great kindness, the big heart that he had, really resonates with teachers and with staff and that is really difficult. >> she hearing a lot from alumni, former students who knew him and want to plan a ceremony or get together and waiting to talk to wang's parents who are now in isla vista. counselors are on hand at leland high school in san francisco where another victim george chen graduated in 2012 before going on to uc santa barbara. chen's parents visited memorial scene and his mother got on hermans and knees to write a message on the ground to her 19-year-old son. >> we would die 100 times, but

we don't want our kids to get hurt. this shouldn't happen to any family. >> we feed to take steps to stop this. >> his classmates are in the process of planning a vigil in his honor. ought parents of 19-year-old shooting victim veronica weiss say an app on the crime phone led them to the crime seen. the parents raced to uc santa barbara when they did not get a phone call from their daughter. the sheriff could not confirm whether veronica was among those killed, they used her "find my iphone app," we were looking at the phone while they were moving her body away from the --

to take her to the morgue and we saw the dot on the screen on the working phone. >> they knew then that veronica was one of the girl whose died on the front lawn of the sorority. >> many are asking, could the rampage have been prevented? the police say elliot rodger e-mailed his 137-page manifesto to the family and one of the two therapists. it outlined a vicious attack that was three years in the works and police say one of the therapists with worked with elliot rodger for years did not on the e-mail until around 10:00 friday night and when he called police the attack had already taken place. >> he intentionally sent it at a point where no one could really do anything and despite this history for a long-term, still able to buy a gun. >> if he was put in a psychiatric facility or adjudicated by a court to be

unfit that would have changed his ability to bring a gun. >> elliot rodger had three rub ins with authorities in santa barbara. first was last summer after he admitted trying to put several girls off a 10' ledge at a party. in january he accused a roommate of stealing candles and the sheriff deputies came to his door for a check after his parents were worried about his increasingly disturbing videos. >> a memorial service is planned for 4:00 today at the stadium to honor the sex students killed, students are planning to build memorial wall at the student center and counselors are working extended hours to deal with the tragedy. this morning, only three of the 13 students injured remain in the hospital. tomorrow, the uc berkeley community is honoring the victims and there will be a vigil at memorial glade at 8:00 p.m. open to the berkeley

the orange county sheriff says that the bodies were found two hours ago on pacific hills drive an area of upscale homes. no further details are immediate ly available other than four bodies have been found. l.a. clippers' owner donald sterling and his wife have hired bank of america to help them with the sale of the team. that is according to two sources with direct knowledge of the situation. today is the day donald sterling must respond to charges filed by the nba forcing him to sell the team after recordings of donald sterling making racist remarks surfaced. his wife has received inquiries from six serious bidders. she made a deal with her husband to sale the franchise. >> a judge in southern iran has summoned facebook c.e.o. mark zuckerberg to appear in court. iranian judge wants zuckerberg to answer complaints by individuals who say that facebook owned applications violate their policy or privacy, rather, and the judge ordered

all the bay area, this is abc7 news. a new fertility treatment is giving women would hope to get pregnant later in life an alternative to freezing their eggs. this is four-year-old grant the first wave of babies in the world conceived through the use of frozen tissue from the ovaries. his mother was diagnosed with lymphoma at age of 19 and faced sterility issues and she was able to freeze hundreds of thousands of eggs. the doctor from the infertility center of stimulus recommended a procedure but said it may not work. >> i told her i didn't think it had a likelihood of working, it was experimental but it was all we could do for her. >> 12 years later, she had her tissue re-implanned and the doctor says the freezing has worked successfully for three out of four women he tried it on. the procedure costs around $10,000. egg freezing can costs up to

jose, by the afternoon showers you will see six decks down from 82 to 76. here is a look at the cold front and the low pressure is sinking to us and bringing and steering the cooler air toward us and as long as it does that we are barely get to the 80's in places like los gatos today, morgan hill and gilroy but the mid-70's for the rest of the south bay and we will have some 60's along the coast and mid-60's to downtown, south san francisco, 70's and 80's up north and 60's and 70's along the east bay shore and low-to-mid 80's into the east bay valley. temperatures are a degree or two of where we today, wednesday and thursday and the secondary cold front comes in and the temperatures are below average and it will be dry to week. no rain in the forecast. >> thanks, next, a local science experiment. >> getting the president's attention. stay tuned.
