the future. good evening, everyone. >> i'm dan ashley let's get now to abc7 news reporter outside of the memorial. tonight we'll have the latest there. >> students did organize a vigil and hundreds of people attend that had event. as mentioned there are so many people gone from here over memorial day weekend. so this is the first chance for everyone to come together organizers expecting 15,000 people to be attendance. looks like stadium here is pretty much at capacity. this is the first opportunity for the community to come together. classes cancelled. this was a day of mourning. >> let us commit to honoring those we have lost. not only through words but actions. let us cherish moments shared

with them and be grateful to have had them in our lives as friends, family and loved ones. >> george chen's father and mother visited the memorial at the growing memorial. the parents left a basket of flowers and a card dear george the sweetest son, grandson, loving brother. book talked with us last night. >> even when we saw this killing spree, we didn't believe it was connected to our son. we just, the sweetest, lovely boy. >> they wanted to see where their 19-year-old boy was killed they say he lived on campus in student housing. they never thought he'd be near the violence friday fight it turns out george was one of the first victims because he decided to hang out with

friends, roommates of rodger. at the memorial to their son and friends, george's mom wrote out a message on the sidewalk. both parents reluctant to talk last night but vowed to do all they can to stop this from happening again. >> we would rather die a thousand times but don't want our kids to get hurt. this shouldn't happen to any family. this should be the last one in the united states. >> now, both parents are at this event with the parents of the other two young boys from the bay area who were killed on friday. they're not scheduled to speak at this memorial. >> now, more on the three young men that died from the bay area. >> james and george attended high school in san jose.
