injured in this attack. >> he is scared. and he's she does want everyone to know what happened to her 11-year-old nephew. she's his guardian. she's furious he was grabbed, chokeed and hit on the school bus. this photo shows lacerations on his cheek and ear. investigators say the man went after the 11-year-old boy for having picked on his 9-year-old son. >> my child said he doesn't know his sovenlt that they ride the bus together. that is it. >> school officials say the driver interveneed and stopped the attack but didn't alert the staff the principal says she learned from the child himself. >> i saw he did have a scratch on his face i called the police.

and the child had to go to the hospital but is expected to be okay. >> here is the man, marcel mitchell facing charges after beating a student in a wheelchair last week. the video is brutal but people are coming to his defense tonight. abc7 news reporter laura anthony is live. laura? >> we've heard the school district is looking at actions of one other security officer to see if more might have been done to prevent or stop the attack meantime, many students here are defending the man who hit the disabled student. as shocking as the scene looks the guard is receiving an outpouring of support from other students. >> he does his job. and talks to the students. >> marcel mitchell fired after

san jose state university announced an action plan putting into affect immediately in hopes of preventing another racially-targeted act from occurring on campus, you'll recall an african american student says he was repeatedly harassed in their dorm this year. everything from a confederate flag hanging in the room to having a bike lock fastened around his neck. part of the action plan is a recruitment to get a more diverse faculty, develop an easy way to report hate crimes and report race training for all students that move into dorms and housing. >> more than 100 veterans with disabilities are participating in the valor games. the first event is archery.

especially working with homeless veterans. >> a great leader and person serving this country has been forced to resign. >> irrin goodwin runs an emergency housing program for homeless vets he's known general shinseki since he took over the va. goodwin has been on the advisory board. others echo the sentiments. colleen corless is with a group that helps veterans adjust to civilian life. he stepped in and made a bold call to say we'll end veteran homelessness by 2015. it never happened before. >> she says highways been successful in the mission. in three years, the number of homeless vets dropped by 20% and claims have gotten better. kevin miller had two deployments to iraq. he says his biggest problem with

the va was wait time. >> my problem is seeing certain specialists i had an orthopedic spine specialist. it took threes mos to get that appointment. >> shinseki criticized for setting the standard all pash yenths had to be seen within 14 days of their desired appointment date. this many with not meet the new wait is 22 days. at palo alto, it's 14 days times are more reasonable compared with other hospitals. >> here in san francisco, it's easier to recruit physicians, nurse practitioners and team members. it's more of a challenge.
