federal agents converge on a san francisco apartment building. what they found turned into an all-day ordeal involving the hazmat team. good evening, thank you for joining, i'm ama daetz. started as a federal raid on an apartment building in the russian hill area. tiffani wilson is there with the details. reporter: at this time we know the fbi served a search warrant as part of a federal criminal investigation this morning. now, this was not an arrest warrant but a search warrant in an apartment behind the blue

tent you see behind me. if you look at the video you can see the fbi agents in full protective suits and masks. they went in and out of a ground level apartment for hours and a fire truck was parked at the ready outside. at one time the fire department's bomb squad stopped by the scene but were quickly cleared. the fbi agents took something out of the apartment and examined it in the courtyard. neighbors in the building were not evacuated. several told us that the apartment being searched is occupied by a single man. >> there is no risk to public safety. and that the protective equipment that you see is for agent safety, precautionary. reporter: the san francisco police department helped secure the scene. jackson is still shut down at polk street, and it's caused some confusion for drivers trying to get through the area. again, at this time, we do not

know what the fbi found or why the search warrant was served other than to say that this is part of a federal criminal investigation, and so we will continue to follow this developing story. in san francisco, abc7 news. there are contamination fears in another part of san francisco. today officials told treasure island residents that more testing would be done to examine the risk posed by potential radiation exposure. nick smith is live there with more. nick? reporter: good afternoon. in fact, each of those homes behind me will be checked. if you look at this map you can see it shows you the number of homes officials at the navy ask various canada regulatory agencies will check next amongst. each house scanned with a large electronic boom. sweep the floor to detect gam na rays. -- gamma rays. >> i was just feel like a little

they can to warn residents of potential health risk biz communicating their findings openly but tell me the work they'd need to do will take a while. >> it's a complex site, so we're overseeing that and then we -- when needed we come out and actually do our own survey to make sure things are done correct. >> in two weeks officials we test every dwelling and collect the data and check for safety. >> it's so close to our home, and you know it, and you just let us sit there. >> nick smith, abc7 news. a fire this morning in vallejo destroyed a school playground at loma vista elementary school. the first firefighters to arrive found the structure complete lie engulfed but put the fire out within minutes. no one was hurt. two no assaults against staff members at napa state

hospital are raising new safety concerns at the facility. the most recent one was yesterday. according to the napa valley register, social worker was seriously injured when a patient assaulted her. the patient hit the victim, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her repeatedly until she called for help by activating her personal alarm. in a separate incident last saturday, psychiatric technician was sexually assaulted bay patient. she also activated her personal alarm to call coworkers for help. both incidents are under investigation. police in petaluma are looking for this man, 25 years anthony silva, accused of beating a mole tell 6 clerk who refused to rent him a room. it happened wednesday just before 5:00 in the morning. police say the victim new silva and wouldn't let him stay at the motel 6. silva became angry and assaulted the clerk and tried to take his wallet but the victim wouldn't let him have it. silva disappeared before police

arrived. the victim suffered injuries to his face and a broken arm. u.s. officials say the only american soldier held prisoner in afghanistan has been freed after five years and is in u.s. custody. sergeant bowe bergdahl's release was part of a negotiation that includes the release of five afghan detainees at guantanamo bay. the 28-year-old had been held by the taliban sin june 30, 2009. president obama celebrated his release look with his parents. >> he was not forgotten by his community in idaho or the military which rallied to support the bergdahls through thick and thin and wasn't forgotten by his country. >> the president made the call to the sergeant's parents to deliver the good news today. bergdahl is in good spirits and is able to walk on his open. young baseball players now have their own field of dreams in richmond thanks to the oakland a's. >> what a great day that we get a chance to celebrate today.

before nasa sent astronauts to the moon they sent them to hawai'i. for the first time we're seeing a series of historical photos taken by nasa in 1970, showing apollo astronauts training on the big island. check these out. shows the crew practicing experiments in the island's volume -- volcanic dust. the photos were discovered at the johnson space center in houston. nasa still uses the hawaiian islands to train astronaut. >> if you thought it had come and gone, think beginning.

gangnam style just made history. ♪ the music video has become the first youtube video to surpass two billion views. happened shortly before midnight on the east coast friday. the pop star now holds the record for the most overall views and the most views in a day with 38 million for his followup song, gentlemen. justin bieber's baby is the only other billion-plus video with just over one billion views. a nice day to get outside and check out what is going on. abc7 news meteorologist frances dinglasan is here. >> sunny skies inland but notice live doppler 7hd showing us the clouds, sticking along the coast. it's been there all day, and it will spread inland overnight. from the east bay, looking out towards the west and you see the

marine layer starting to push in towards san francisco. temperatures right now range, 58 in san francisco, 65 in oakland, 70, san carlos, morgan hill, 82. half moon bay still cool at 54, with that cool marine air. santa cruz has been a beautiful sunny day but you'll notice the clouds off to the distance as well and we'll see clouds return tomorrow morning. napa, 71. 79 in novato. fairfield, concord, livermore, low 80s. from sutro, looking down towards san francisco. a beautiful view. you see these clouds from the coast. and you notice the temperatures will be cooler on the coast but much warmer downtown. low clouds will spread inland overnight, fog and drizzle near the coast, especially tomorrow morning. then we'll see more sunshine and a little warmer sunday afternoon to end the weekend. the radar satellite composite shows high pressure building, and with the air circulating

clockwise, we'll see a slight offshore flow, not as strong of a sea breeze during the day, and temperatures will warm up nicely as we get that sun building up our temperatures, but overnight, with the clouds moving in, you'll notice they'll spread inland into valleys so we could see fog and drizzle near the cost and that's where we'll start alcove and stay -- start out cool and stay cool. low 50s. so up per 40s in santa rosa, napa, half moon bay, santa cruz, and elsewhere. 52, san francisco, almost all the way down towards san jose. look for temperatures in the low 80s tomorrow in the south bay. 81, sunnyvale, millbrae, upper 70s. 58 in pacifica. downtown san francisco, 66, with cloudy conditions. novato, 80, very comfortable and

mild in the east bay. low to mid-70s, from 71 in richmond, 73, oakland. 76, castro valley. look for even warmer numbers tomorrow. so, we'll see some mid-80s in pittsburg, antioch, brentwood, and livermore. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast, enjoy the sunshine and slightly warmer conditions tomorrow, but again, it will still be cloudy at the coast. a little cooler on monday. temperatures dip before basically we start to warm up again and into next weekend, looking warm to even hot. so, next weekend will be even warmer. >> toasty, thank you, frances. shu is off tonight. rick is in and you have some baseball for us. >> mike is under the weather and so were the giants today. coming up in sports the giants may have the best record the majors but in every season some rain must fall and seemed to leave the
