morgan hill still cool at 49. a mile and a half visibility half moon bay and getting better up in the north bay so we will all see a sunnier and warmer day today except if you are right at the shoreline. the winds will kick up, bringing temperatures still on the side of cool with the upper 50s to low 60s, san francisco and our beaches. elsewhere, mid-60s to the mid-70s. we will warm up through the 80today in the inland east bay. details on the cool down as soon as tomorrow in a few minutes. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. >> developing news out of san francisco this morning where fbi agents are looking for a man believed to be armed and dangerous. authorities raided the apartment yesterday of ryan chamberlain and uncovered a large amount of what is believed to be ricin, one of the deadliest poisons in the world. abc7 news reporter tiffany wilson has the story. >> dressed if full haz mat suits

and masks, investigators were in and out of the polk and jackson street ground-level apartment all day. they removed a toolbox from the one bedroom unit and examined it in the courtyard. at one point mobile x-ray machines and bomb disposal robot were both used. they watched from the rooftop. they claimed no one was in danger and no one needed to evacuate. >> there is no risk to public safety. >> reporter: residents of the 16-unit building describe the subject of the search as a quiet man in his late 30s. >> i met him once or twice before. he's kind of a quiet guy. nice enough. >> he's not been seen all day. >> where is he right now? does he know? did he know it was going to happen? it's so random and weird. >> reporter: investigators were sprayed off once they emerged from the building. many folks didn't know what to make of the scene. >> i thought it looked like

another crazy day in the city, like they were filming a movie, but they were not. >> reporter: around dusk, the fire and police department both switched out their crews as the fbi set up a mobile command truck. in san francisco, tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >> one of the bay area students killed in the isla vista rampage will be remembered with the memorial service today. 20-year-old david wong and two friends from the bay area were the first of six victims of elliot roger who went on a killing spree a week ago friday. today's service will be held at the harbor light church in fremont. this starts at 5:00. we now know the name of a man hit and killed by a bart. train. he is 22-year-old tyler warden of el~cerrito. he died after being struck by a san francisco-bound train near the west oakland station. bart police believe warden was

walking in a restricted area along the tracks late friday night when he was hit. >> more trouble at napa state hospital. a social worker has suffered serious injuries after a patient attacked her. the latest assault happened friday when a patient hit the woman, pushed her to the floor and kicked her several times. other employees came to help after the victim activated her personal alarm. last saturday a psychiatric technician escaped after being assaulted. these are the latest in a series of attacks on staff members by patients. a report filed in federal court said mental healthcare for california prisoners is inadequate. patients with severe mental illness did not receive enough psychiatric care or given medication instead of one-on-one treatment and returned to prison too soon. the report examined two state

psychiatric hospitals and four hospitals within state prisons. california department of correction has not commented yet. >> soldier berglund is now safely out of afghanistan after being a prisoner for five years. he landed in germany where he will receive medical care, martha raditz has the latest. >> this morning, speaking from afghanistan, defense secretary chuck hagel said that sergeant bergdahl's death was deteriorating and his life might have been in jeopardy. the army sergeant was released by his taliban captors after five years in a prisoner swap. one american citizen for five afghan taliban being held at the guantanamo bay military prison in cuba for over a decade. the president, speaking about the end of bergdahl's captivity, alongside his parents in the white house rose garden. >> he wasn't forgotten by a

community in idaho and he wasn't forgotten by his country because of the united states of america does not ever leave our men and women in uniform behind. >> bergdahl was picked up by u.s. special operations forces from his captors on saturday. not a single shot fired. the noise from the helicopter so loud he was handed a pen to scribble s. f. for special forces. the soldiers yelling back, yes, and we've been looking for you for a long time. bergdahl then broke down in tears. recovered along the border with pakistan, defense forces tell abc news overnight he was en route from the air force base in afghanistan to a military base in germany where he will undergo evaluation and treatment before being reunited with his family. according to the defense department, private first class bergdahl was abducted in june, 2009 after going missing from his post at a u.s. base in

afghanistan. since his disappearance rumors have about how he left the base, from walking off the job to being grabbed from a latrine. the taliban quickly claimed credit for the abduction. and in these videos bergdahl was shown answering questions and eating. insisted he was being treated well, even doing pushups to show he was in good shape. >> as you can see, i'm strong, physically fit. >> but it's been four long years since the last video was released, showing the toil of years in isolation had begun to take its toll. >> every day i want to go home. the pain from my heart wanting to see my family again doesn't get any smaller. get me, release me, please! i'm begging you! bring me home! >> while everyone is happy bergdahl is safe, the

>> residents of treasure island are pressing state officials for new information about possible health risks associated with radiation contamination at or near their homes. >> our reporter talked to them about the safety of their homes. >> it's so close to our home and they just let it sit there. >> there are possible health risks associated with radiation contamination at or near their homes. >> i would like to see them take these people, including myself, relocate us, even temporarily, until the redevelopment is finished. >> this as hundreds of families continue to live in buildings separated by wire fencing covered with green mesh inches from contamination testing sites. >> i'm not sure about all of that that is being said so i just asq as many questions as i

can. >> members of the media weren't allowed to hear what she asked. before the community meeting started officials moved me, my microphone and our abc7 news cameras to the next room, far away from representatives being questioned by residents and well out of ear shot. >> there are cleanup sites within the housing area. >> officials with the navy tell me they have spent nearly $2 million to pay for the cleanup of the island and they are doing everything to warn residents of potential health risks by communicating their findings openly. >> we will continue until we get regulatory closer of each and every site on the island. >> in two weeks they will perform tests of the ground floor of every residence and collect the data. but that may not end it. abc7 news. >> election day is right around the comper but californians aren't exactly no one for getting out the vote. according to a survey they are ranked 48th in the nation in

voter turnout. one in four californians eligible to vote is not registered. the majority of ballots will be cast by mail, but in order for the vote to count the ballots have to be received on time. that means if your ballot is not in by 8:00 p.m. tuesday, election day, your vote cannot be counted. if you haven't mailed in your ballot yet, you can drop it off at most polling places or at your local department of elections. >> decades of family fun have ended. a roller skating rink closed for the last time in san jose yesterday. a roller derby topped last night's agenda at san francisco skate before they shut its doors at 11:00 p.m. san jose skate opened 40 years ago. the final night on the rink attracted generations of people. >> this has been a huge part of my upbringing. i skated here all of my informative years. it was a mainstay in the community. >> very disappointed. we have a pretty large regular

following. a lot of people are very sad they are closing. >> the building's owner is considering turning part of the rink into a gym. a frenzy in southern california as the hidden cash movement continues. hundreds came to the beach yesterday looking for money. >> people searched for balls that are stuffed with cash and buried in the sand. the phenomenon is now spreading. a restaurant owner north carolina has been leaving cash around his neighborhood. he said he got the idea from the bay area man who started it all.

>> sometimes being a good guy pays off. it doesn't hurt if you also happen to have a really nice voice. a local man, dylan chambers, has the heart, the sound and the pedigree to be a star. dan ashley tells us how a chance encounter with a legendary music producer may launch a career. ♪ >> that's the voice that hooked him. dylan chambers is at the mic. ♪ ♪ get your love back in my hands ♪ >> dylan is the son of lester chambers, one of the original chambers brothers best known for the 1966 classic. ♪ >> the chambers brothers helped define a generation of thinking, playing everything from rock n' roll to gospel. after 50 years in the music business, lester still sings the too. serious money troubles and a strange, senseless attack as he was performing last year.

it's been a tough time. but in recent years other musicians have helped him out and dylan, now 29 years old, has always stuck by his dad. they share a house in petaluma. >> i think every father who has a son should have a son as great as dylan is to me. >> dylan was four when he first performed with his father at lincoln center. ♪ [applause] >> dylan's voice has matured a little since then. he's performed all over the country with lester and other great musicians. always hoping for his first big break. and it may have finally come. a few months ago the legendary producer, garda, happened to hear him sing at a benefit. >> and i thought, whoa. >> the two connected instantly. >> we feel like it's god's calling to keep alive music, good music. keep alive the new artists and give them a chance. >> narda went home and started writing a song for dylan. >> it was like five in the

morning and he called me and said tell me what you think of this. and he started playing it through his phone and it just blew me away. >> they started fine-tuning the song at a recording studio. ♪ come back to me i miss you >> and the walls have many of the biggest names in the business. dylan said just standing on the carpet is magic. >> you stand here so you can feel all of the greats of that been here before you channeling their energy. aretha franklin, whitney hughes stan, mariah carey, smoky robinson, the temptations, they have all been here. >> but one place they are trying to shake off the past is with the old business model where huge record companies got most of the profits. that is what happened to his father, lester, who got no royalties from his biggest hits. narda has launched his own

later. good morning, everyone. we are looking at some dense fog. still pockets around the bay and napa, half moon bay. the marine layer continues to compress and it's doing so because we have a ridge of high pressure that is pushing down on the atmosphere, allowing for a marine layer to be shallower this morning and here's the result. this is the view from our east bay hills camera vollmer peak. you see the low cloud deck and sutra tower peeking up in the distance. it won't be long until we see sunshine in the city and oakland. 59 san carlos. good morning, san jose. sunny all morning long. 58 for you. half moon bay still about a mile and a half visibility. low 50s in san francisco. but sunny at the airport. our exploratorium camera shows the low cloud deck. 55 in novato, as well as napa. and the clouds beginning to scour out in the north bay. look at fairfield. a light wind out of the southwest. it's been sunny all morning into the 60s, as well as concord and livermore in the low 670s.

you get the idea. we are starting out sunnier in some spots, a little cooler in other spots. but we will all finish a bit warmer today unless you are right along the coast where we are looking still at a little bit of mist and drizzle. then for tomorrow we get the warmup today but about 10 degrees cooler tomorrow. it will be an about face. and another system visits us. only temporary because most of the upcoming work week will be warmer than normal. i'll explain in just a mommy. by later on today there is the low cloud deck from bodega bay, point reyes, all the way down the san mateo coast. that will bring little change to the upper 50s and low 60s there. an upper level system backing off as high pressure is allowed to build in temporarily. that will bring the slight warmup. then as we have another system with us tomorrow, it's a big cool down. mist and drizzle. we will look for temperatures today, though, to be quite nice.

>> the co-owner of the "philadelphia inquirer" is one of seven people killed in a fiery plane crash last night in massachusetts. the editor confirms the death of lewis cass. just last week they bought out the partners of the inquirer for $88 million. their small plane crashed and caught fire shortly after takeoff on the way to the atlantic city international airport last night. >> six missing climbers are believed dead on mount ranier in washington state. this, after helicopters detected pings from the emergency beacons buried in the snow.

searchers discovered a debris feel, suggesting the climbers got stuck in an avalanche. they were due to return from the mountain friday. a park spokeswoman said there was no way they could have survived. search efforts are currently suspended. two children escaped with minor injuries after a bounce house was swept away by the wind. the bouncy castle got carried away by a gust in littleton, colorado. it went about 300 feet before stopping. one child was ejected from the castle as it tumbles in a public park and the other remained inside. the castle's owner said it had been securely tied down. >> still to come, a new regulation for uber and lyft drivers. why some are calling a bill that just passed the state assembly a stiff punch to the pocketbook. and coming to the rescue. how and where you can adopt a furry friend this weekend.

>> welcome back. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> carolyn, it is brightening up in emeryville. almost everyone under the sunshine. but look at the temperature difference from the north bay where the clouds have been hanging tough to the east bay. a dig ten degree difference. just about everyone warms up today except here at the coast. this picture showing the low clouds and fog banked up along the shoreline. that's where they will stay. we will look for cool 50s and upper 60s pacifica. mid-and upper 80s here. five to seven degrees warmer today. we are going in reverse with as much as 10 degrees of cooling tomorrow. i'll detail that in a few minutes. >> lisa, thank

a bill that would require more insurance for uber and lyft drivers even when they are not carrying passengers has passed the state assembly and now moves on to the senate. abc7 news reporter jonathan bloom tells us why some reporters call it a public safety measure. some drivers simply believe it could be a stiff punch to the pocketbook. [chanting] >> a flurry of fuzzy pink mustaches gathered at this office in california. she wrote this bill. it requires companies like lyft. >> uber to insure drivers up to $1 million, even when they don't have a passenger in the car. levitating and uber already provides some coverage. they made the change after a uber driver struck and killed a 6-year-old girl and san francisco and uber claimed no responsibility since they had no passenger in the car at the time.

uber's new policy is if drivers are not logged into the app, they are under their own personal insurance. but if they are logged on, they are covered. if they are cruising around waiting for rides, uber provides a backup policy just in case the personal insurance denies them. this bill would get rid of the gray area. full coverage whenever the app is on. >> i'm concerned it would be passed on to the drivers or passengers or both and that could hurt of the community for both. >> the concern over a shrinking bottom line comes with new numbers by lyft's competitors. suggesting the drivers on these new platforms can make a decent living. >> people using their own vehicle can make $74,000, it's incredible. >> compare that to $39,000 for the average taxi driver. uber said it's because demand is through the roof. >> we're doing more trips per hour than we've ever done before. >> but one taxi driver told putts be careful of those numbers. unlike cabbies, they have to take care of their own car. >> it's the cost of owning a car and putting a car on the road and it will put on a ton of mileage. >> and insurance is another big expense.

the bill still wouldn't require levitating and uber drivers to have as much insurance as a taxi. >> full time commercial delivery insurance. we all have it. why shouldn't they have it? why should be the public have that protection? >> in san francisco, jonathan bloom, abc7 news. >> happening today, thousands of cyclists are hitting the road today to ride for to end a.i.d.s. cyclists set out early this morning from the cow palace. there is a multi day ride. it ends in in santa cruz. the ride called a.i.d.s. lifecycle is seven days and. wraps up next weekend in l.a. the goal of the ride is to raise money and awareness for people living with h.i.v. and a.i.d.s.. >> parts of sunnyvale will be fogged tomorrow night in an effort to suppress mosquitoes with the west nile virus. last week the santa clara county officials confirmed that

mosquitoes caught in the 906 and 907 area codes tested positive for west nile. weather permitting, the fogging will begin tomorrow night at 11. the sick mosquitoes pass along the virus when they bite people. in rare cases the virus can lead to death. hall of fame golfer phil mickelson said he has done nothing wrong. he's under the microscope as part of an fbi investigation into insider trading. here's abc news chief business correspondent rebecca jarvis with the latest. >> phil mickelson is at this tournament in ohio, one of the. most popular, best known pro golfers in the world known for winning the masters three times. he has a great short game but mickelson is in the spotlight for another reason. the fbi and sec confirmed to abc news they are pursuing an insider trading probe involving mickelson, los angeles gambler

billy walters, and investor carle icon. there were trades made in 2011 in clorox stock and investigating whether icon was attempting to take over the company at the time, could have. tipped off his brother walters, and whether walters, who a number of golf courses, then tipped off >> if a friend told him it's a good idea to invest in clorox. if he has no idea where the information is coming from, it's not insider trading. >> i have done absolutely wrong. i'm fully cooperating and i'm happy to do so in the future too. >> icon said the same thing. telling the new york times that to suggest he did anything wrong is, quote, irresponsible. billy walters had no comment." >> and mickelson is saying he won't talk about details until the investigation is over.

together. ♪ >> these are folk songs. >> a folk song is a song that has been passed along orally from generation to generation. >> at this center in oakland, lecturer dale needleman and the director are carefully preserving a rapidly fading part of american heritage. the two women are working closely with the library of congress in washington, d.c. to help preserve folk songs for generations to come. they go periodically to pick out songs from their massive library. >> we send them a list of songs that we want, and they send it back. >> then the real work begins. ♪ >> each song is carefully transcribed with the accompanying sheet music.

the key to the warmup today is less of an on shore push, a warmer atmosphere. 62 with sunny skies in concord and 54 in santa rosa. so already we are as much as six degrees warmer by the delta, five degrees warmer than this time yesterday in livermore, and not much of a change elsewhere. the fog is just hanging on all morning long. so in terms of our average high temperatures, we are close, but still a little bit above normal today. so the fog and drizzle is going to be persistent at the coast. sunny and warm around the bay and inland. then tomorrow ten degrees of cooling. so a big about-face as we go into the first week of june. here's a look at a brightening up exploratorium camera where temperatures today on the peninsula, just about average, 78. san francisco a degree above average with more warming in oakland into the low 70s. we will welcome in the 80s to napa and livermore, where that will be the most significant

warmup in the inland valley. it should be a nice day today. but if you are headed anywhere in the state it's quite warm. fresno, 96. 88 yosemite and 77 in los angeles. and that cool breeze at the coast keeping monterey in the low 60s. today will be very pleasant with temperatures in the low 70s for oakland. 75 fremont. san jose manages 81 with 83 in morgan hill. mid-70s, a long way to go in santa cruz. upper 50s and 60 at the coast. 82 napa. the warmest day will be today. throughout the afternoon a lot of sunshine. a beautiful day in oakland with temperatures into the low 60s throughout the afternoon for that day game. accuweather seven-day forecast then, the warmup today, the cool down tomorrow and we will warm back up on tuesday. by wednesday and thursday we will be above normal again. in fact, as much as ten degrees above average around the bay and inland for the rest of the work week. staying partly cloudy and breezy

and the giants went down quietly in the ninth. closer trevor rosenthal struck out the side. st. louis wins 2-0. the giants struck out 13 times. >> at the ncaa regionals. stanford lost to the host, indiana. he homers off john. 4-2 was the final. this is a double elimination tournament so stanford will play youngstown state later today. the spurs had a chance to close out oklahoma city last night and earn a rematch with miami in the nba finals. a bad ankle kept tony parker on the bench most of the contest. the spurs got it started with a bang. and down in the fourth, kevin durant puts his team on top with 35 seconds left. but san antonio regains the lead as ginobili hits the three. he could barely watch as russell westbrook made two free throws. they would go to overtime. in o.t., duncan gets the bounce. puts the spurs up by three. durant, the league's mvp, tries to
