the sheriff's department who tells us this unfolded within about a few seconds of the deputy arriving here on scene. it happened within pretty close proximity. we talked with an eye witness who said that the police officer was standing right around there with the selica is. he fired in this direction, where the woman, with a knife, was standing closer here to this silver vehicle. the family of garcia is devastated the 18-year-old was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy just yards from her house. we talked with a witness who was frightened when she saw garcia with a knife. >> i thought she'd try to come after me to do something to me? >> why did you think that? >> she was chasing the cops with a knife. >> her parents agreed to let her talk with us on the condition we not reveal her identity because
