right now local police are out in force after several violent attacks by large groups of teenagers. >> it is called wilding, and this isn't just one city's problem. the departments from all over the east bay are banding together to try to put a stop to it. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama dates. abc7 news reporter alan wang is live in san leandro with details. alan? >> ama and dan, it has been oddly quiet considering the past events of the past few weekends. bart passengers tell us the large group of teens have been congregating near the bus stop before they walk over to the bay fair mall where they have been causing lots of problems. more than a hundred teens have been roaming the streets out here and the police have been way outnumbered.

>> they have kids who come over and jump over the gates all the time. >> one guy was exposing himself at one time. >> over the past month san leandro police say a groiing -- growing number of teens have been using the 880 corridor mostly on the weekends. >> for the purpose of doing nothing but terrorizing people and intimidating others and committing other acts of crime. >> police believe this trend called wilding was sparked by a youtube video where 600 young people roamed the streets of chicago last year committing crimes. >> we need strength in numbers to safely curb the problem. >> several people have been robbed and now they have created a task force. >> so not just five or six police officers will show up, but 20 or 30 will. >> police say many of the crimes are affecting the bay fare center mall and other downtown shopping areas.

>> you can see a lot of people leaving the area and shopping elsewhere. >> the task force is still being formed, but a full task force will be ready to respond as early as next week. alan wang, abc7 news. meantime, police are looking for a man accused of assaulting a woman in san ma day -- san mateo. this is the man on east third avenue. the man grabbed her from behind and wrapped his arms around her in a bear hug type hold. she was able to break free and was not injured. the suspect is described as a his hispanic male about 5 feet . the man behind the manhunt bought enough toxins to kill 42 people. he was in court where fbi agents explained while they didn't find the bio toxins in his apartment when they raided it, they did find the bomb making components.

fbi agents explained how he bought the poison on-line on the tour network which allows people to hide their on-line activity. they say he bought the bio toxin on the site black market reloaded. our abc7 i team uncovered the report on the dark net last month. federal agents say is a large mexican drug cartel may have been supplying a meth lab in san jose. these tubs hold methamphetamine in its liquid form and later to be converted to crystal meth. agents were removing it from the house. two adults were detained and officers say two kids were home during the raid. they are in protective custody. >> moving on for a moment, the bay area is heating up. the triple digit temperatures are on the way. it is a nice evening after a mild and breezy afternoon and an early evening. sandhya patel is here with what to expect the next couple days. >> we are expecting hotter

weather inland. summer is arriving 15 days earlier than expected. live doppler 7hd ising tracking the fog around the coast and parts of the bay already. the marine layer has deepened, but that is all going to be impacting the coast and the bay and not our inland spots. tomorrow livermore 93 degrees. this is a sampling of the temperature trend. sunday is 102 degrees. it is well above the average. we hang on to the heat on monday before the temperatures start to come down for later on in the workweek. that's just one city. i will be back to let you know how hot it will get in your neighborhood this weekend and where you might want to head to escape the hot weather. ama? >> sounds good, thank you. an ultra modern futuristic microhotel may be coming to san francisco. the hotel itself isn't tiny, but the rooms are.

>> the development property is on seventh street. it was boarded up after a failed attempt by the former owner to turn it into a nightclub and hostile. they purchased the grant and will work with a london-based company to convert the 110-year-old tower into a futuristic microhotel. it has one other hotel like this in new york's time square. some people likened the room to hotels you may find in japan. i showed pictures of the hotel to frequent travelers at sfo to see what they think. >> this is what they are supposed to look like. >> wow. >> it is more. >> the big point of the hotels is how expensive they are. but the rooms are not that small and they won't be so

cheap. >> if it is economical it would be great for younger people and it would be fun to stay in one, a new experience not? they have rooms going for 170 bucks a night and up. it is likely the prices will be slightly less than san francisco. abc7 news. >> we did spend a good part of the night here to show you how small these rooms are. we found this secret nap room. this is a little bit smaller than 170 square feet. you have to figure you have to have someplace to put a place to shower. and then a place to sleep, and you recognize that the space is actually not that big at all. i am probably going to hit the sack right now, so i will talk to you a little later. live in san francisco, abc7 news.

where cycling is growing in popularity. and dan noyes is here with the story. >> dan and ama, no matter who is at fault in a collision it is the cyclist who pays the greater price. the new law that goes into affect is meant to give them protection, a three-foot buffer. we found it will be very difficult to enforce. when thousands of pounds of metal collide with a light weight bike, it is never a good outcome for the cyclists and it can be fatal. the most recent numbers from the national highway traffic safety administration found 726 cyclists died in 2012 across the country. another 49,000 were injured in crashes with cars that got too close. >> might have been hit three times by motorists that never hit their brakes after knocking me off the bike. >> southern california assemblyman wrote the three feet for safety act. >> the bill establishes a three foot buffer and if it is not safe to pass a driver has to slow do a reasonable speat

and then pass when the cyclist is not deemed in danger. >> cyclists welcomed the new law. >> it sounds great. i ride probably 15 to 20 miles a day. i am constantly dealing with that issue right there. >> my girlfriend got hit yesterday. >> i'm sorry. >> it sounds like a great loss. >> many drivers say the new rule is virtually impossible to follow especially on crowded streets. >> the streets are small enough. >> i don't think the downtown are the right place. it is too dangerous. >> how do you know this is three feet? >> drivers are concerned thisy may get dinged for a ticket if a cyclist veered into the buffer zone. the fine is $35, but if the driver hits the cyclist it is $225. there are no fines for cyclists who get too close for cars. >> we wanted to show you how a

three-foot buffer might not work in a busy city such as san francisco. >> we rigged a car with cameras and notessed the distance with a yardstick and drove around the city. it was hard to stay 36 inches away from a bike and remain in our lane. under a new law whoa would have to follow behind four blocks and it could cause serious traffic congest congestion. we marked it at one foot increments. we enhanced the line so you can see them. here is why it is hard to enforce. keep your eye on the cyclist. that taxi comes too close, but does it come 36 inch 1234*z we know because we measured. how will the police make the call without guides ? >> this law was not written with san francisco in mind. >> san francisco police commander oversees pedestrian and bicycle safety for the city. the narrow streets make this a tough law to enforce.

the average car lane in the state is 10 feet wide. in san francisco it is just eight feet. >> the proximity is too close. >> california joins 22 other states requiring drivers to keep their distance from bikes. pennsylvania mandates four feet and the rest three. are the law ease effective at preventing accidents? they issued just 337 tickets for the three-foot violation from 2006 to 2010. that is in a state with 14 million drivers. they say it will be up to the officers on the street to determine when a ticket should be issued. >> you cause harm to another and you are the cause of the collision you get a citation. >> we spoke to several san francisco police officers off camera who told us without a collision they won't even bother to enforce the law. >> the importance is in the

awareness. >> they helped pass the new law and they agree enforcing it will be especially difficult in san francisco. >> still, it is scary to be passed closely by a car. >> the three-foot buffer is not necessarily to cite motorists for driving dangerously. we will ask them to share the road with cyclists. >> the three feet for safety act goes into affect on september 16th. one final point, a cyclist has to pull over and let cars pass if five or more stack up behind them. >> we should all pay better attention. >> a maternity store has pulled a t-shirt off its shelves after it was accused of fat shaming pregnant women. it sold at the pea in the pod store and it says "wake me when i'm skin me" and another it says" i miss my waist" and

hit the pool or the beach, i will show you why in a moment. live doppler 7hd shows you the fog and around the coast it has pushed in toward santa rosa and reporting overcast skys and the marine layer has deepened slightly. i want to alert you to a fire weather watch that includes lake county and the sacramento valley begins on sunday morning at 5:00 a.m. and it runs until monday night at 5:00 p.m. expecting breezy conditions and hot weather with the low humidity. we will be watching for any potential for fires. for the time being this is what keeps our fire danger down. the marine layer from our exploratorium camera and we can look toward the ferry building where san francisco is 52 and 55 in oakland and 59 in san jose. it is currently 56 in morgan hill. from our sfo camera, hard to miss ma fog there. the temperatures in the low 50s around santa rosa and napa.
