know, you could see flames and the flames came up to the fence. >> reporter: the fire started after 2:00 in this field moments after a landscaper fired up his lawnmower to clear dry grass. >> that's what was crazy, 95 degrees in the middle of the day mowing two-foot tall grass. >> reporter: fire officials are warning homeowners this weekend will continue to be hot. so create defensible space. >> he just did it at the wrong time and causing a fire hazard. >> reporter: he was cuffed and cited for causing a fire and later released. even though the fire was put out quickly it destroy kevin moss's boat and motor home. >> there's nothing i can do. changed all my projects if for summer. >> reporter: neighbors rushed to water down their property to stay ahead of the property. the resentment was still there.

>> very frustrating. not only have to replace things but having people who don't take care of the property. out here everything is tinder dry and it doesn't take much. >> reporter: that's what fire departments worry about this weekend. lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. >> you can keep track of the heat and spare the air days on our website. people in hayward who live near a metal recycling center, a fire broke out in a pile of recycled appliances. the fire was first reported at 2:00 p.m. a scare at the hayward b.a.r.t station after two groups of teens fired shots at each other. we are live at the san leandro b.a.r.t station tonight with the

details. >> reporter: what they are cracking down on is something called wilding. it's basically a group of teens that are causing chaos throughout san leandro and hayward. tonight is the first night of a task force. i am basically surrounded by a whole bunch of police vehicles along with police officers from about three police agencies. we are at the bay fair b.a.r.t station because of that incident that happened in hayward. a lot of teenagers involved in that incident are expected to be arriving at b.a.r.t station here. this task force is in full affect. it's not yet clear if tonight's shooting is connected to any incidents over the last week but police say this does involve a large group of young people who seem to gatherer at a particular place and violence erupted. we were invited to ride along with one of the team leaders.

>> we want to head it off from the beginning and effect the arrests of the formal or informal leadership of the group. >> reporter: police say shots were fired between two large groups of teens at the b.a.r.t station parking lot. there are no reports of injuries but police recovered six bullet casings. this is the latest in a string of incidents including a kidnapping earlier this week and a large group of unruly teens last saturday night at bay fair mall. >> it took a large contingent of officers to go by and get the group out of there. to escort them out to make sure that they didn't create any more crime or intimidate anybody. >> reporter: curtis wilson works at the mall and says that wasn't the first time. >> sometimes they break. sometimes they steal. sometimes it's terrorizing other customers or other people. >> reporter: the lieutenant says the aim of the task force is to

quickly mobilize a lot of officers from several departments. they want to make a lot of arrests if necessary but it's what he is hoping for is if the group of teens get the message that their behavior won't be tolerated. and tonight police are search for for an inmate who escaped from the jail. he was being escorted to the basement to take out the trash when he ran out the door and escaped. he was scheduled to be released on july 24th. tracy morgan is in intensive care tonight and the driver who police say slammed into his bus has been charged with murder. authorities say early this morning, the driver of an 18 wheeler was dozen and didn't notice that traffic was stopping and rear ended morgan's limo bus causing it a to overturn causing his writer to die at the scene.

san bruno city officials want to know what is behind the decision to stop a investigation into pg&e. the look into the thousands of pipeline strength test records was stopped. it is known that the utility refused to produce any information about the records. since the puc regulates pg&e. it sounds like a back room deal was made. >> it with unacceptable. we are disappointed that the puc filed and went through a motion that was intended to compel the release of -- the identification of those records. >> sloppy recordkeeping was the leading cause of the deadly 2010 pipeline explosion and fire, according to investigators. california chrome's hopes of a triple crown faded down the stretch. >> it won't be a triple crown this year. it's going to be close. it's going to be very close and tonalist got there. >> the colt was not able to

overcome getting boxed in after the start of the belmont stakes. the last leg of the triple crown. tonalist won. the top two finishers didn't run in the kentucky derby or preakness stakes. there have been 11 triple crown winners in u.s. horse racing. the last was 36 years ago when affirmed won in 1978. california chrome is the 13th horse to come to the belmont with a win at the kentucky derby and preakness and the 13th horse to not quite make it. in yuba city, fans cheered a good run but went home disappointed. thousands gathered to watch the race. before the race there was a festival with bands and face painting. fans say they are still proud of

school shootings. tomorrow's drill will include a helicopter and some pyrotechnics. advocates of same-sex marriage and anti-discrimination are celebrating a victory in wisconsin tonight. a federal judge ruled today that the state's eight-year ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it discriminates against same sex couples. this was the first same sex couple to be married in the state. the wisconsin attorney general says she will appeal the decision. the man who created a documentary on the building of the eastern span of the bay bridge is not sure how it will be distributed to the public. the documentary is called "life span" it chronicles how the eastern span was build from design to finished bridge. there is a lot of stuff in the film the general public probably doesn't know about. >> there was never enough money to build the bridge. there were four funding bills that had to go through in

sacramento over the course of five governors, some of whom were from this design and some of whom were not. one of whom stopped the project entirely and had to start it again. >> it is a three parter. ruben says he hopes the film will be aired by a tv station. today at st. mary's college people walked to raise money for the make-a-wish foundation. ama daetz joined the crowd as they made their way through campus. people could walk to remember loved ones, a specific wish child or for all bay area wish children. the money raised supports the make-a-wish foundation. when the sun went down they cranked up the color at candlestick park. this is the neon run. not your regular 5 k. people ran through glow zones of neon water and pumping music. a few thousand turned out for

you'll notice it is mostly clear tonight. we'll see triple digits tomorrow and a warm to hot day on monday. here's what's going on upstairs. we have an area of high pressure and this dome with this dry, warm air that will bring us hot days inland. that's tomorrow and monday. things start to turn around on tuesday and cool down midweek. overnight lows will be in the 50s, 55 in san francisco. 57 in san jose and cooler along the coast. 50 in half-moon bay. tomorrow, the forecast model shows the fog just along the coast and quickly dissipates and mixes out by the early morning hours. tomorrow, even along the coast we'll see 70s instead of 60s that we had today. 80s around the bay, 90s in the south bay and low 100s in the inland valleys and north bay. warm in san jose. 94 in gilroy. look for upper 80s to near 90 in

the lower part of the peninsula. if you are going to the beach, 71 in half-moon bay. and also sunset district will be 72. so great to head out to the coast. 79 in downtown san francisco for the giants game. look for mid-90s to upper 90s from calistoga and napa. 80s in the east bay to 90 in castro valley and it's going to heat up and sizzle in the inland areas. 102 in fairfield and brentwood as well. 100 in livermore. we have the summer sizzle tomorrow and hot in inland on monday. and the cooling trend starts on tuesday, much cooler wednesday, breezy thursday, friday/saturday will be in the 80s by next weekend. >> sweating already. thank you so much. busy day it was in sports. a's take it on the chin.

interview with abc news i asked what she would say to her younger self. >> dare. dare to be more than you think you can be. dare. >> reporter: and dare she did. angelou was born in st. louis and at age 14 she moved to oakland. as a teenager she studied dance and drama in san francisco. in her mid-20s angelou was singing in san francisco. 1,000 people are one step closer to becoming citizens. volunteers helped people who are legal residents fill out the 21-page citizenship form. applicants were able to get guidance in their own language. organizers say if everything is in order it takes anywhere from three to six month first people to become citizens.
