triple digits expected inland and cooler by thursday. i'll have the accuweather forecast. expect the highs today to reach anywhere from the lower 70s to the triple digits inland. katie. >> leyla, thank you. with the high temperatures firefighters are urging caution this weekend of a a lawnmower sparked a fire in the east bay. we have details from berkeley. mostly smoke. you see flames and the flames came up in minutes. >> it started moments after a landscaper fired up his lawnmower to clear some very tall, very high grass. >> that's what was crazy. 95 grease in the middle of date mowing two foot high grass. should have better sense. >> fire officials are warning homeowners this weekend will continue to be hot. create defensive space but do it correctly. >> he was trying to do the right thing but he did it at the wrong time and it was causing a fire

appliances. this is at simms metal management on industrial parkway. a viewer sent us this picture showing flames and putting out a lot of black smoke. at berkeley two people are recovering from injuries after being shot. it happened at the laquinta inn just before 7:00 last night. some sort of party was taking place at the hotel at the time. no word on the victims or any arrests. developing news in oakland. police are investigating a triple shooting that left one person dead. it happened around 10:30 last night. a woman died at the scene. she has not been identified. two men were also shot. they were taken to the hospital. their conditions were not known. no word yet on any suspects or arrests. a scare at the hayward bart station after two groups of teenager fire shots at each other.

sergio has details. it's not clear if the shootings were connect today any incidents over the past week but police say it involves a lot of young people that team to gather at a particular place and violence erupted. >> we were invited to ride along with one of the leaders. >> we want to be there when they commit crimes. >> in hay regard place say shots were fired between two groups of teens when shots were fired at the bart station parking lot. there are no reports of any injuries, but police have recovered six bullet casings. this is the latest in the string of incidents the last few weeks, including a kidnapping in san leandro and a large group of unruly teens last week at bayfield mall. >> it took a large contingent of officers to come by and get the group out of there. to escort them out and make sure

that they didn't create any more crime or intimidate anybody. >> curtis wilson works at the mall. he said that wasn't the first time. >> sometimes they break, sometimes they steal, sometimes it's terrorizing other customers or the people. >> the lieutenant said the aim of the task force is to quickly mobilize lots of officers from different departments. they want to make arrests if necessary, but they are really hoping that the teens get the message that their behavior wouldn't be tolerated. abc7 news. police are still searching for an inmate who escaped from the fran ask the jail. yesterday morning a deputy was escorting 40-year-old timothy to the jail's basement to take out the trash when the inmate ran out a door and escaped. he is serving a sentence on drug charges and is scheduled to be released july 24th. after tracy morgan remains in intensive care and the driver

who slammed into his bus has been charged with murder. the driving of an 18-wheeler was dosing off and didn't notice traffic ahead of him was stopping. he rear-ended his limo bus causing it to overturn. his comedy writer died at the scene. that was james mcnare. morgan was in the bus when it overturned. he was performing a stand-up performance in dover, delaware. he has started in "saturday night live" and" thirty rock." >> last week the public utilities commission shelved these strength test records. no reason was given but pg&e refused to produce information about the records. since the puc regulates the pg&e, it sounds like a back room deal was made. >> it is unacceptable.

helicopter and some pyrotechnics. it's a response to recent school shootings across the nation. >> advocates of same-sex marriage are celebrating another victory in wisconsin. yesterday a federal judge ruled the state's eight-year ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional because it discriminates against gay couples. the wisconsin's attorney general says she's going appeal the decision. this morning a story about a bay area woman who wanted to plan ahead for her own cremation and wound up locked in a contract she couldn't afford. it certainly added stress to an already emotional time of life. mike finney stepped up to help. >> joanne stewart is trying to recover from a painful operation. at the same time she's trying to plan for her death. >> because i wanted to surprise my children, one thing they didn't have to do for me.

>> joanne doesn't want to burden her two daughters for funeral decisions and expenses so she arranged things herself. >> i believe it was over the internet. asked if she was interested in >> an e-mail solicitation asked if she was interested in cremation. she said yes. a person from smart cremation came to her home and explain the services. >> they would give me a box, they would notify my children. >> joanne paid up front to avoid finance charges and she signed a blank contract letting the salesperson fill in the rest. that's when things went wrong. >> i kept getting bills. $300 more. >> the bill said the plan cost $1,652, not $1200. joanne called the salesperson right away. >> i said my deal with you was $1,200, and she said i'll be right there. she made an appointment. i dropped my own plans. she never showed up.

>> she contacted company headquarters. a manager said the contract was for $1,652. joanne tried to get a copy but said she was ignored. >> i said i want my money back because how do i know that when i do die you don't hit my children with -- well, your mom can't have this because she still owes this much money. >> we contacted smart cremation and their parent company in texas. they sent joanne a contract. turns out she was on a finance plan with monthly payments and interest due, but they said they wouldn't hold her to it. they said they will process the contract as written. when we determined the customer recalled the terms differently, we offered to honor the smart plan on the terms she recalled.

astroids. and also testing our bacteria on earth can survive on mars without contaminating the planet and months of field fit field is working on high energy light in space to generate oxygen. this morning scientists are tracking a huge astroid expected to pass by earth today. nicknamed the beast because of its size it is expected to pass almost 800,000 miles of thering. better of earth. that's three times farther away from the moon but pretty close for an astroid that big. the beast is estimated to be between 800 and 1300 feet wide moving at a speed of 31,000 miles an hour. n.a.s.a. said there is zero chance of impact. nothing to be' afraid about but something you can be very interested in. >> all right. well, a very large star is eventually going to show up today. >> here's a live picture. we are starting off with the

golden gate bridge. the sun is not quite getting through yet. it's about less than a quarter mile visibility along the coast. if you are traveling through half moon bay or over the golden gate bridge, be careful and use the low beams this morning. but it will ramp up. the temperatures will get downright hot, especially if you are going to be in the inland areas. a look right now at our live doppler 7hd radar satellite. no returns there so we don't have any clouds to speak of that will be forming along the coast and hovering over the bay area. in fact, shallow marine layer will be about a thousand feet and it will burn off. but sunshine from the sutro camera looking toward the bay and the east bay hills. you can see the areas of fog stretching over san francisco. it is going to keep temperatures cooler around san francisco and along the coast as well. current temperatures 52 degrees. oakland 54 degrees. upper 50s for san jose. morgan hill currently 5 it

degrees and 50 degrees at half moon bay. right now if we take a peak at the emeryville camera, also we have good air quality in terms of being a spare-the-air day today. particulate matter, careful if you suffer from asthma. tree pollen and grass pollen and pollution in moderate levels. weed and mold spores negligible. high u.v. index. if you are going to be outside make sure you pack the sunscreen and also hydrate yourself. drink plenty of water today. really temperatures up to 112 degrees in palm springs but we aren't going to be seeing the temperatures quite as high in the bay area but i will let you know in a mommy. what we have is the area of high pressure that is circulating right over the coast. that's what is bringing the warm conditions for our inland areas but a tropical pressure is going to come in later on this week bringing the temperatures down starting tuesday. of course, we have the at&t park, giants taking on the mets

at 1:05. temperatures starting off at 77 degrees. again, stay well hydrated and keep the sunscreen handy. high necessary san jose, 91 degrees. you will be in the lower 90s for much of the south bay. along the peninsula, upper 80s to lower 90s. and you start moving up the peninsula into san francisco. 72 degrees in the sunset. so if you are going to be visiting the sunday streets along the great highway, you might want to pack a light sweater. also the union street festival near the marina, that's happening today. might be a little chilly but could be nice. 102 degrees in cloverdale. hot in calistoga at 999 degrees. plenty of sunshine in the east bay. temperatures lower in oakland at 84 degrees. 87 in san leandro. very comfortable but now it's going to be get uncomfortable in livermore, 100 degrees. hot, sizzling temperatures. things will cool down overnight. here's a look at the overnight lows. fog is coming back and temperatures are going to be in the lower to mid-50s along the

a bay area contractor accidentally trimmed a tree and hurt some birds. the hair rockford on sunday that were hurt in the incident were released yesterday at the martin luther king junior shoreline park in oakland. some will keep an eye on them. >> we do some monitoring with the birds because they get banded. the eagles and other birds get special plastic bands, as well so is the public can spot them easier. the sealed bands are hard to read. >> last month a tree trimmer accidentally cut down the birds' nest doing work at the post office. the tree trimming company is paying for the birds' medical care. up next, the american dream

yesterday protesters from the national resource defense council were at the union street festival. they say foster farms is using so many antibiotics a strain of taken buyotic resistant salmonella has developed and led to many people getting sick last year. they say there is evidence that links the it to the processing center in california. >> we think we have an obligation to show they are using antibiotics safely and they haven't done that. >> what you have to understand about salmonella, if you handle the chicken properly, if you cook it to 165 degrees, there's no risk of illness. that said, we are working to reduce salmonella. >> foster farms said it recently spent $75 million to reduce salmonella risk. the company said it put in place stricter screening processes for birds and made demands that its suppliers prove the livestock

they supply is healthy. a bay area man completed a harrowing journey more than 3,000 miles away from home. he organized a swim off the coast of haiti to help lift the nation out of poverty. christian sze has the story. >> reporter: the mood is upbeat as he gets set for the mile of a lifetime. a five mile charity swim in the caribbean. jim is the organizer. he gave us this video to use. >> we are raising money for a program to help children learn how to swim. >> although haiti is an island, dozens of local children drown each year. too poor to focus on property -- or water safety. he is starting a swim on a tiny

temperatures staying in the warm vicinity. as you start climbing up the peninsula into san francisco, temperatures will come down to about 79 degrees. still quite warm there but 72 degrees along the coast in the sunset district. so for sunday streets along the are gate highway it will be chillier there. north bay, 95 in novato, 103 degrees in clear lake. 97 degrees in napa. hot, hot. as we take a look at the east bay, 86 degrees in richmond, 87 degrees in san leandro, and then we start to get into the triple digits as you move into the east bay valleys. so 100 it degrees in fairfield, 101 antioch, 100 degrees in livermore under sunny skies. overnight lows along the coast will be in the low 50s to the mid-to upper 50s along the peninsula and we will even see a 58 degrees here and there in the east bay valleys. but we hope to see temperatures cooling off. the accuweather seven-day forecast, temperatures pretty
