this is a live look here. i'm ama daetz. in some cities it got much hotter. we have more. >> live doppler 7 hd is picking up a compressed marine air along the coast, but with a very shallow marine layer, it allowed temperatures to warm up into the triple digits today. yesterday, compared to this time right now, we are 19 degrees warmer in napa and 11 degrees warmer in liver more. 14 degrees warmer in concord. so temperatures jumped up. and these are current temperatures right now. so we've got 104 in fairfield. this will probably be a high today. 101 in concord, san ramon, antioch, los gatos, and 990 in san jose. if you want to stay cool, head

to the coast where we're 61 right now in half moon bay. when we can expect a bigger cool down with the accuweather seven-day forecast. ama? >> thank you, frances. cornell barnard joins us today. what people did to beat the heat. >> reporter: it is definitely hot out here. don't be fooled by this optimistic bank sign pit's actually 97 degrees here in waln walnut creek. that's bad news for those just trying to stay cool. >> ask any dog in walnut creek, they'll tell you it's hot. this group of pug owners headed right for the nearest shade after their usual sunday meeting. >> i like to dip their feet in the water. that cools them off the fastest.

>> of give tor take a couple of degrees? everywhere you look, tall grass, bathed to tinder dry protection. fremont firefighters are putting own a small grass fire early sunday. cal fire crews in contra costa county are on high alert. >> all it takes is that metal blade, one rock to hit it and it's amazing how quick it will take off. >>. >> reporter: a one-achor fire was started by a man mowing some tall grass. he was cited by police. those who came to escape the heat came to san francisco. jamie chang was getting ready to run a 5 k. >> good weather to run in for sure, right? >> absolutely. i'm not a runner an i'm here

running. so it's a good reason to run today. >> and you can keep track of bay area heat on twitter at live doppler7hd. >> berkeley police are asking for help after a shooting last night. two teenage boys were shot at the la quinta inn just before 11:00. one victim was reportedly shot in the leg, the other in the face. they were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. police believe the shooter drove east on university in a white sedan. now detectives are asking anyone who saw what happened or know who the shooter is to contact berkeley police. a 15-year-old girl is dead after a shooting in oakland last night. police say it happened just before 10:30 near 82nd avenue and a street. she was riding in a car with two men in their 20s when someone outside shot at them. the two men were also hit. and a 20-year-old man was dead after a separate shooting in oakland that happened around 90 minutes later around midnight.

police say bell was shot and killed outside of his home on 48th avenue. in both cases, police don't have a suspect and a possible motive. police officers are dead after a shooting in las vegas. police say a man and woman looked into a c.c. pizza and said this is a revolution and shot two officers as they late lunch. one died at the scene, the other is in surgery. they then grabbed the police officers' guns where they ran into a walmart shooting, before shooting and killing themselves. a man told military officials he was tortured and held in a cage after he tried to escape. sergeant bowe bergdahl spent five years in captivity before his release last week. members of his unit have come out against bergdahl calling him a deserter. we have more. >> reporter: we're learning more about sergeant bowe bergdahl recovering right now in a military hospital in germany after the taliban released him

in a prisoner swap last weekend, ending nearly five years of captivity in afghanistan. bergdahl told investigators he was kept in a metal cage in the dark after he tried to escape. he was also unaware of the uproar generated by his release, especially the accusation by some of his former army comrades that he was captured after deserting his base in afghanistan. >> we just want people to realize he is not an american hero. he didn't serve with honor and dignity and respect. and he is a deserter in a time of war. >> members of congress are demanding a full investigation. >> i think the department of defense needs to do a very thorough investigation. obviously those soldiers are very, very concerned and upset by it. and if their account is true, they should be. you jeopardize other soldiers when you walk away from your post. >> bergdahl has not spoken to his family since his release and he doesn't know threats directed at him, his parents and his hometo hometown. officials are investigating online posts like this one. desert issers get put in jail

until they're court-martialed. they don't get ticker tape parades. that homecoming has been canceled over safety concerns. >> threat e-mails. they want him in the rifle sights when they come up. >> bleu many residents still stand by bowe bergdahl. >> everyone is innocent until proven guilty. >> right now, police forces in pakistan are trying to take out armed militants who stormed an airport in karac hi. at least 17 people have been killed. the military attacked the international terminal. military officials say that they were trying to hijack a plane. right now, police and the militants are exchanging gun fire. there are also reports of explosions, as well as a large fire. and it was militants who attacked the international terminal. there is good news for actor tracy morgan who was critically injuried in a car crash. morgan's representative said this afternoon he's more responsive today.

morgan has a broken leg, femur, nose, and several broken ribs, but his rep says he's encouraged by his signs of recovery. doctors performed surgery on his leg today. the injuries should keep morgan in the hospital for several weeks. the crash in new jersey killed one man and critically injured morgan and two others. a truck driver from walmart has been arrested. authorities say he failed to stop for traffic and swerved into morgan's limousine. he's been charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. a fire crew in san jose is being honored for helping save the life of a 4-year-old boy. abc 7 news reporter lillian kim has the heart felt thanks from the boy's mother. >> ama, a 911 dispatcher and four san jose firefighters were honored today for saving a 4-year-old boy earlier this year. today, alex met the 911 dispatcher and the fire crew from truck 35 who saved his life. the young boy fell into cardiac arrest while he and his family were at a park back in february. his mother mary called 911 and

that dispatcher calmly told her what to do. she gave him step by step cpr instructions. mom then performed chest compressions until firefighters arrived. they took over from there and now four months later, the boy, his mom and the rest of the family came to the fire house to save thank you. >> because of her actions, our sun was able to survive the traumatic event. the firefighters showed much care and compassion towards our sun and our family and we'll never forget it. >> when i got off the phone, i had to excuse myself from the room. in 17 years, i haven't done cpr on a small child, so i had to excuse myself from the room and, you know, his outcome, it's the call of a career. it's makes a career worthwhile. >> the fire department said the incident should serve as a reminder of the importance of knowing how to perform cpr. luckily for the family, it all worked out. alex is said to be doing very well. in the news room, abc 7 news.

and rally. they came together to mark the 30th anniversary of the golden temple massacre in india. at least 10,000 people died in 1984 when indian troops attacked the holy seikh shrine. they say basic human rights are still an issue for their friends and relatives in india. california chrome is back belmont. a cut on kproem's foot happened at the start of the race. it will take another six to seven weeks of recovery before training again. >> i'm just happy he's all in one piece. it was kind of scary and you see

>> another hidd cash drop lured people to the beach. people tore through hoping to find a cash of stash in 14 bottles of bubbles. some people scraped through the sand on their hands and knees to find the cash, but brothers, it was a little easier. >> i just thought we would walk around and my foot caught on something. it's about six to 12 inches deep. >> we're like we have to go to the scavenger hunt today. >> found one! >> thank you! >> nice. some people found as much as $100. people we talked to who found cash says they did plan to pay it forward. >> an attack against childhood cancers.

the gesture shows kol darety with many childhood cancer patients who often lose their own hair. some youngsters even braved the car bers clippers today. worldwide, a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes. this weekend a low-budget romance about two cancer patients dominated the box office. "the fall in our stars" brought in $48 million. it cost just $12 million to make. young women who loved the book helped make it a hit. tom cruise's new movie cost $78 million and came in second, making just $29 million. a movie theeter is a great place to be today because the air conditioning is always blasting. francis has a look at how hot it got in some spots today. >> here's live doppler 7. a very compressed marine layer, just barely visible along the

coast. we have clear skies and that allowed temperatures to really warm up. from the east bay, looking out towards the west and the clear skies out there. it's currently 73 in san francisco, oakland 784, morgan hill 97 and half moon bay near the coast, where it's cooler, 63. i just want to show you a picture of that fog because we're not going to see much of it. you might miss it in the inland areas right across the golden gate bridge right in ou. check out these numbers. check out these areas with triple digits. fairfield, 104. concord, 101. that's where cornell was. it's changed, went up a few degrees just since i talked to him. 103 in livermore. beautiful view towards downtown san francisco. so here's what you need to know. it will be clear and mild overnight. hot again tomorrow, which means another spare the air day. and then cooler by tuesday.

i'll let you know how much cooler it's going to be. so we have this area of high pressure. and high pressure creates sinking air which usually warms up. so we have another hot day in store for us before it weakens on tuesday. the lows will be really mild with very little cloud cover. you'll notice a lot of 60s out there with the exception of san francisco. 58, half moon bay, 54. but check out the low 60s through oakland, concord, freemont and even san jose. so you'll wake up to mild conditions tomorrow morning. because the clouds really don't get a chance to pull into the bay, they reseed very quickly and disappear all together. 80s around the bay, 60s and 70s, with a stronger sea breeze. still warm, and look for some 80s as well in parts of the peninsula. downtown san francisco as well

with plenty of sunshine in the north bay. low 90s through novado, sonoma. we'll be comfortable and warm in the mid 80s. 84 in berkeley, 82 in san leandro. still hot, but liver more, instead, for example, 103 today, it's going to be 103. you get the idea. still hot, just a few degrees warmer in some lo kpapgs if you're headed to the san mateo county fair, it's going to be pleasant all day with plenty of sunshine. you'll reach the low 80s by the afternoon and then even at 10:00 still fairly comfortable. you might need a light sweater tonight. it's 67 degrees. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. things really cool down on tuesday. inland areas will drop down about 12 degrees. the cooling trend goes into thursday. coolest day before we warm up. we'll probably be warmer than
