good monday morning, everyone. we begin with new details on that deadly shooting in a busy las vegas shopping area. >> an armed man and woman shouting about a revolution opened fire killing two police officers on a lunch break. >> another victim was shot to death inside a walmart before the suspects died in a murder/suicide pact. abc's tahman bradley has more. >> reporter: authorities say it was an ambush. two police officers were eating lunch at a pizzeria inside this las vegas shopping center yesterday afternoon when a man and woman walked in and opened fire. >> what precipitated this event, we do not know. my officers were simply having lunch. >> reporter: one of the officers shot back, but both cops, 42-year-old alyn beck and 32-year-old igor soldo, were killed. >> the suspects took the officer's weapons and some

ammunition from them on the way out the door and made a statement, something to the effect of "this is a revolution." >> reporter: witnesses say the male shooter repeated those words, and then the man and woman fled across the street to a walmart. >> when i saw their gun in their hand, and he just told me to tell the cops that it was a revolution. >> reporter: inside the walmart, a third person is shot and killed. police rush to the scene. officers enter the store from the front and discover the body. some officers enter from the back encountering the suspects and exchanged gunfire, then according to police, the man and woman carry out a suicide pact. >> a short time later more shots were heard. preliminary appears the female suspect shot the male suspect then took her own life. >> reporter: overnight police searched an apartment that could belong to one or both of the suspects. police still don't have a motive. tahman bradley, abc news, washington. >> this morning's "las vegas review-journal" says the shooters were a married young

couple in their late 20s. police are looking into their ties to white supremacy. we will have a live update from las vegas on "good morning america." our other big story breaking overnight, police in pakistan have finally regained control of the nation's busiest airport after a terror attack. >> more than two dozen people were killed during the five-hour battle between the attackers and security forces. abc's muhammad lila has the latest. >> reporter: it happened just before midnight here. ten militants all disguised as police guards stormed the vip terminal at karachi's jinnah international airport armed with machine guns, grenades and at least one rocket launcher. the siege lasted five hours. the sky lit orange as a fire raged inside. [ sirens ] >> reporter: at least 13 people were killed, many of them security guards who were protecting the airport. pakistan has a history of militant attacks, but none have ever come so close to reaching

active planes at a major commercial airport. all air traffic to and from the airport was closed while the attack was under way. some passengers even stranded on airplanes on the tarmac waiting to take off. the taliban are claiming responsibility for the attack saying it's in revenge for a u.s. air strike that killed one of their leaders in november. muhammad lila, abc news, islamabad. well, bergdahl revealing new information about his five years of taliban captivity as he recovers at a u.s. military hospital in germany. bergdahl is telling investigators that he was tortured by his captors, beaten and held in a cage after he tried to escape. he's asked not to be called sergeant saying he didn't earn the rank, and he is not prepared to see his family just yet. a senior official says the 28-year-old has no idea the firestorm his release has treated. his parents are now facing death threats. they're so serious, the fbi has been called in. now in sharp contrast is the reception those five guantanamo

detainees are getting, warm hugs when they landed in qatar in their own private villas for a year. abc chief investigative correspondent brian ross is in qatar, and he wanted to see how closely these former detainees will be watched. he even knocked on the door of the taliban villa, but an armed guard said it was not possible to speak to the taliban without an appointment. pope francis has become the latest player in mideast peace process just after the latest round of u.s. sponsored negotiations collapsed. francis welcomed both sides for a prayer summit at his home yesterday. israeli president shimon peres and palestinian president mahmoud abbas were even spotted joking and embracing. francis presided over an invocation of jewish, christian and muslim prayers. hundreds of children who crossed into the country illegally spent the weekend sleeping on plastic boards at a holding center in arizona. the minors, mostly from honduras, el salvador and guatemala, were flown in from south texas. some of them were sleeping under foil blankets while waiting for medical checkups.

the influx has overwhelmed border patrol. the kids eventually will be transferred to other states. hillary clinton's new book comes out tomorrow. it's called "hard choices," and it's a prelude to a possible run for the white house. it comes as an abc news poll reveals strong support for clinton as a candidate. seven in ten democrats say they'd back clinton if she runs for president in 2016, and 67% of americans polled see her as a strong leader. diane sawyer sat down with clinton to ask point-blank when is she going to make a decision about running? >> i just want to kind of get through this year, travel around the country, sign books, help in the midterm elections in the fall and then take a deep breath and kind of go through my pluses and minuses about what i will and will not be thinking about as i make the decision. i will be on the way to making a decision by the end of the year, yes. >> you can hear much more of that interview on "good morning america" and tonight, "hillary clinton: public and private," one-on-one with diane sawyer at

9:00 p.m. eastern, 8:00 p.m. central. severe weather across the west spawned a tornado outbreak in colorado over the weekend. several tornadoes touched down near denver yesterday alone. nine of them have raked across the state since friday. one tornado touched down near a junior golf tournament southeast of denver, another one near the blackstone country club in aurora causing at least one injury as well as uprooting trees and downing power lines. little rock, arkansas, is bracing for more heavy rain and damaging winds after a storm system produced microbursts of wind gusts and reports of tornadoes. it uprooted trees, downed power lines. crews have been scrambling to try to restore power. time now for a look at today's weather. those heavy showers and thunderstorms will gradually move east blanketing much of the midwest and extending into the south. some areas could see as much as 4 inches of rain, but aside from scattered showers in the northeast, the rest of the country should be clear and dry. it'll be another scorcher across the southwest with phoenix again hitting 108 degrees. 80s and 90s across the south.

thunderstorm. it's known as a supercell swirling in the sky there producing rotating winds, baseball-size hail. it toppled a tent in an outdoor festival. luckily, there were no reports of injuries. now here's a look at this morning's road conditions. nearly half of the nation will see slick roads with rain up and down the east coast from maine to florida and flooding across much of the south and central u.s., but the rest of the nation's roads should be dry. if you're flying, airport delays possible in dallas, houston, kansas city and memphis. back to the news, a developing story, actor tracy morgan doing better, but he still will be in the hospital for another few weeks recovering from a deadly accident this weekend. >> a spokesperson says morgan broke his femur, his nose and several ribs in the crash, which killed his riding partner. their limo van was rear-ended on the new jersey turnpike by a walmart tractor trailer. the driver spoke to abc news. >> it felt like an explosion. i just remember the impact and the vehicle going by, seeing a

little bit of the walmart truck go by. we didn't know which way was up, which way was down, then i climbed around, and i heard tracy screaming for help, then i heard jeff screaming for help. >> the truck driver has now been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. walmart says it will take full responsibility if authorities determine its truck caused the accident. oscar winner sandra bullock was not harmed by a burglar who broke into her l.a. property early yesterday morning. bullock was home when the incident happened. someone called police who eventually arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of residential burglary. the man never entered the house but he was, quote, checking it out. police also say they're looking into whether the suspect is a stalker. a los angeles area teacher has been arrested for kidnapping three teenagers. police say it started when the teacher, who appeared to be drunk, asked the teens for a ride. once the teacher got inside the car, they say he pulled a knife and ordered the kids to take him to jack in the box. one of the teens managed to call

911, and the teacher got out of the car and ran away. he later turned himself in. all right. an international manhunt for three men who staged a dramatic escape from a prison in quebec. the inmates left aboard a helicopter which had landed in the courtyard of the detention center. the men said to be connected to the hells angels are considered dangerous. it is the second helicopter aided inmate escape in canada's province there in two years. california chrome is back in the golden state this morning nursing an injury he picked up in saturday's belmont stakes. the triple crown hopeful suffered a cut on his leg coming out of the starting gate when he bumped another horse. he wound up tied for fourth ending dreams of being the first triple crown winner in 36 years. california chrome is expected to rest for a couple of months before returning to competitive racing in the fall. all right, the new york rangers hope to get back into their stanley cup final series tonight against the l.a. kings, lead that series 2-0.

it was red. >> reporter: the collision was just days after mayor quan was caught # -- on her facebook pages, the mayor posted this evening i was driving in east oakland when another driver struck my rear tire. i immediately pulled over to make sure no one was hurt. it appeared that everyone was all right and their well-being was my first priority. oakland police are investigating avenue a pedestri pedestrian was hit by one of their officers. police say a pedestrian was crossing the street when that person was hit. the person was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain, no word on the condition. investigators say the officer was not responding to a call when the accident happened. >> a series of hit and run accidents in san francisco
