discovered 9-year-old ida rothschild this morning. she disappeared just after noon on friday from her family's campsite at samuel p. taylor state park. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard spoke with her father there. good evening, cornell. he is tremendously relieved, of course. >> reporter: yeah, of course he is, katie, and he is also very grateful to everyone who helped look for his daughter, ida. her family are saying in a cabin up the road tonight. she's been sleeping most of the day after her very long adventure. she wandered about two miles, by the way. and tonight her dad is just giving thanks. >> the infrastructure that blossomed into this effort that brought our daughter home to us, i'm extremely grateful. >> reporter: bobby rothschild can't say enough about the full-scale search to find his 9-year-old daughter, ida. this picture of a smiling, but tired ida was taken just minutes after she was found safe today. >> what was the first thing she

said to you when you guys reunited? >> she said what was all the fuss, dad? >> reporter: rothschild says he and his wife turned their back for just a moment and ida wandered away from the family's campsite friday afternoon and became lost in the woods. hundreds of searchers from across northern california looked for ida through the night. two cyclists spotted her this morning. >> they were riding along a trail about two and a half miles west of our location here, when they both saw and heard ida crying for her mom up on a hillside, just a short distance away from the path. >> reporter: amazingly she wasn't hurt and told police she kept walking to keep warm. earlier fellow campers saw the flier about her disappearance and started looking too. >> and you were keeping an eye out for her? >> yeah, and calling her name. there was a lot of people calling her name, so we were like we've got to go out there. >> reporter: ida and her family are visiting from santa fe, new mexico. they'll be returning home with quite a story to tell.

>> extremely this father's day that i did not -- that i continue to have my wonderful daughter, ida. >> reporter: in marin county, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. an appeal tonight from police in east palo alto investigating the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy. officers were called to kaiser hospital in redwood city around 12:30 this morning on a report of a gunshot victim. the boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital. the location of the shooting and the circumstances remain unknown. police are asking anyone who may have information to give them a call. san jose fire crews rescued a man who was trapped underneath a 10,000-pound trailer this morning. these are pictures tweeted out by the san jose fire department of the operation on quinnby road. the man was rushed to the hospital. no word on his condition or how he became trapped. also in san jose a fiery scene when two minivans collided. this happened around 3:15 this morning. this video is from friends of

san jose firefighters. investigators did not release the cause of the accident, but say the minivans were traveling at slow speeds when they crashed. no injuries were reported. an oakland police officer got into a wreck with another car while answering a call to back up a co-worker. you can see the damage here to the police car. it got into an accident with a sedan at 40th street and telegraph avenue around 10:00 this morning. the officer was not hurt. paramedics took the other driver to the hospital. at this point it's unclear who was at fault. oakland mayor jean quan joined other city leaders today in a town hall meeting to discuss crime, education and youth services. it was the last in a citywide series of meetings for this year. mayor quan pointed out how the police department is much better staffed and more diverse.

>> those are radically different numbers than what we've had in the past and so it is a force that i think is young, enthusiastic and diverse. >> the mayor said another sign of improvement is that the city expects to be out from under federal oversight by the end of next year. now to new details in the growing unrest in iraq. the u.s. aircraft carrier, the uss george h.w. bush, is heading to the persian gulf. the move comes as president obama considers possible military options for iraq. the government is now in danger of falling to radical islamist forces. >> reporter: from bad to worse. radical sunni muslim fighters calling themselves the isil continue to march from triumph to triumph, releasing this video showing them taking over the iraqi town of sadea on saturday.

it is the latest advance in a breath-taking military sweep from across the syrian border down through the vast expanses of iraq, now within striking distance of baghdad. the jihadists posted this video, which can't be authenticated, that seems to show them overrunning a military base and capturing american made military equipment. the iraqi military, despite massive training and support from the u.s., has crumbled in the face of the invaders. baghdad is an armored camp bracing for what could be a last stand. checkpoints bristle with machine guns. there are many tense scenes like these with police warially inspecting vehicles at roadblocks. a rare bright spot, these iraqi men volunteering to join the battle against the militants. president obama is reviewing u.s. options. >> we will not be sending u.s. troops back into combat in iraq.

>> reporter: that leaves air strikes, using drones or warplanes. and in two great ironies, iraq's traditional arch rival, iran, has even offered to help the jihadists which could turn the u.s. into a makeshift ally with iran. >> here's some information on the group called isil, also known as isis. it once pledged allegiance to al qaeda but was deemed too extreme for the international terrorist group. its goal is to create a state based on islamic law. it now occupies parts of syria and iraq and continues its campaign south to baghdad. world leaders are expressing their outrage to russia's president after a ukrainian military plane was shot down, killing all 49 people on board. germany's chancellor and france's president have both called president vladimir putin to tell them of their dismay

graduates, saying denying climate change is like arguing the moon is made of cheese. the president also said today's young people are fed a steady diet of cynicism, but argued they have a right to be optimistic. a surprise today for hillary clinton. during her book signing at a costco warehouse near washington, d.c., more than 1,000 people attended the book signing in arlington, virginia, and among them, supreme court justice sonia sotomayor. she's the one in the striped shirt there. she told reporters she was just shopping and decided to get a signed copy. clinton obviously surprised, shouted that she couldn't believe it. the central subway project in san francisco will mark a milestone on monday. the tunnelling work for the major extension of the muni metro t third line has been completed. this is video of the work from the san francisco municipal transportation agency. the agency says the two 350-foot-long tunnel boring machines each dug 8500 feet over the past year.

cultural arts museum in the city. mayor ed lee had this banner hung yesterday near city hall and another near piers 30 and 32 where the city hopes the museum will be built there. lucas has been looking for a home for his museum since the presidio trust said no to build it near crissy field. chicago and los angeles are also trying to lure lucas. he's expected to make his decision this summer. scary moments for a woman in connecticut. she called police after hearing what she thought was a child in trouble outside of a school. in the end, what she found was very different. >> the voice kept saying daddy, daddy, daddy. then it said what, almost as if the child was talking to somebody else. as she was looking for the source of the voice, she kept following and it brought her to a tree near the school where she looked up and saw that it was a parrot. >> tricky. the fire department used a long pole to get the bird out of the 25-foot tall tree. the owner lives about a mile away and had been looking for the parrot, named ralphie, for days. the owner and the bird have been

reunited. well, that's good. those things can be tricky. i've heard some very talented impressions from parents like that. let's turn it over to frances in the accuweather center to tell us what is coming up. kind of a holiday weekend. >> yeah, i think we'll have good news for father's day but you'll notice increasing clouds today. live doppler 7 showing us some of the high clouds moving in, and you can see it as well looking north towards the golden gate bridge. the marine layer will make a comeback. right now it's 59 in san francisco, oakland 67. but we did hit quite a few 80s out there. san carlos still at 79, san jose 76 and morgan hill 88, while half moon bay only 59 right now. also it's a great day to head to the beach. a live view of santa cruz and it's currently 74 in santa rosa, 78 in napa and still hanging on to the 80s in fairfield, concord and livermore. this time as we look from the east towards san francisco, we

will see those increasing low clouds overnight. and then that means a cooler day for father's day tomorrow, with monday being the coolest day. i'll show you why. as we take a look at the pacific satellite image, we have this high pressure that brought us a lot of sunshine, but notice these high clouds. that's a weak impulse from this area of low pressure. that brought us the high clouds today. temperatures are still warm, but as this starts to move in, we'll see cooler numbers for father's day and the trend will continue into monday. and i want to show you what the trend looks like in san jose. so for tomorrow, the average high is about 80 degrees. tomorrow will be just right about average, around 79. then monday things will be really cooling down. that's the coolest day for almost everyone in the bay area, before we ramp back up midweek and a slight dip again towards the end of the weekend. so that's a little preview of the seven-day forecast. here are the overnight lows. we'll be mainly in the 50s with clouds all along the coast, so cool in half moon bay at 51, santa rosa 50, napa 51.

elsewhere mid to low 50s. 53 in san francisco, 54 in oakland and also in san jose. and the forecast animation shows the clouds pulling back, but not completely. you'll notice along the peninsula coast, we'll see clouds all day and maybe parts around the monterey bay coast. so with the sea breeze increasing, temperatures will be cooler tomorrow afternoon. 60s along the coast. we'll still see some 80s inland but not the upper 80s. more like mid to low 80s. so look for a warm day in the south bay, 79 in san jose and 75 in milpitas. along the lower part of the peninsula, still some upper 70s in redwood city but pacifica will be cool at 62. san francisco downtown 65 degrees. in the north bay numbers also coming down. we'll see upper 70s to low 80s through petaluma, sonoma and napa. east bay numbers mainly in the low 70s as well. inland areas i think much more comfortable.

after back-to-back 65s leaving him at tirnds and a six-stroke lead, most people thought camer would run away with the open. but it's the open. rickie fowler one of the few rounds under par today. he shoots a 67, 3 under. kevin na went from 4 under to even par, chipped over the green on 14. his fourth shot here, double bogey. meanwhile kaymer had two bogeys on the first four holes but look at this. he would eagle, back to 10 under but his struggles just beginning. kaymer birdie putt on 14. that was a good putt, just didn't drop. stays on the lip. on 15, misses the short par putt, falls to 7 under.
