assembly public safety committee in sacramento at 9:00 tomorrow morning. opposition has now surfaced that could derail that bill. >> the family of audrey potts says a loophole allowed the teenagers accused of the sexual assault of her daughter to get 35 days served on weekends in juvenile hall. a bill would mandate a two year term for a victim that is intoxicated or unable to fight back. 100,000 people signed the petition >> many said they want a longer sentence we feel this is the step we need to make, in the right direction, to protect our young men and women and to protect the victims and not the criminals. >> the bill known as audrey's law for the saratoga high school student faces opposition going before assembly public safety

committee tuesday morning. several advocacy groups have sent letters to committee chair urging the bill voted down. one objection is the cost of the two years >> we're talking about a price tag of about $250,000 a year. we think that, you know those resources would be better spent on educating youth and other options actually getting to the root of the problem. >> however, the family attorney argues the focus would be on rehabilitation during those two years >> this teaches them to use social media responsibly, teaching them harms of using images, private in nature of young women and affect on their lives, in this case, the ultimate tragedy. my client's daughter took her own life. >> an indid yous street section of san jose shut down following

a deadly crash between a tanker truck and a motorcycle. investigators say the motorcyclist was traveling in the fast lane, and big rig in the slow lane. the big rig made a u-turn, crossing over the fast lane in front of the motorcycle. >> anybody making a you turn from a slowing of traffic across over a fast lane of traffic is obviously putting others in danger. that would be considered illegal u-turn. >> the motorcyclist found beneath the truck. the driver of the truck was not hurt and is cooperating with investigators. this morning's accident marks the 18th traffic-related fatality of the year. >> a close call for a number of buildings in the path of a fast-moving brush fire. >> firefighters believe a vehicle fire is to blame for flames racing through kelly park near felan avenue and center road.

2200 acres near lake isabella 130 miles northeast of los angeles. 500 homes have been evacuated and 500 at risk. so far, three homes have been destroyed. firefighters have the fire at 10% containment, but having a tough time because it's spreading so fast. >> it's been very hot and the winds have been erratic. >> the temperatures reached upper 80s and only going to get hotter closing in on hundreds this week. >> we're getting a look today at pictures taken during an emotional meeting between father of uc santa barbara killer elliott rodger and the father of a a victim of the attack. >> his son was one of six people killed during the rampage. both say they plan to work together so other families don't

a 21-year-old pilot is awe after forced to make an emergency jump out of his plane. his plane crashed into the missouri field. what makes this story amazing is that this is his first time sky-diving. he flies planes for a service but had not made the leap yet. that changed on saturday. he lost control of his plane after another diver accidentally hit part of the plane's tail. he was carrying an air chute. >> i only had 1500 feet left until the ground. when jumping out, the wind carried me. i landed in this soy bean field here. >> wow. he says the experience still feels surreal when he looks at the pictures >> work got under way to remove a huge public art sculpture.
