night, a day after those double twisters tore through nebraska devastating the town of pilger. abc's steve osunsami is there. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning, george. take a look at what's left of this farm house behind me. it is all brick and it is all gone hit by one of the tornados that came through here and overnight there were more violent storms racing through nebraska. >> gun it, gun it, gun it! >> reporter: overnight here we go again. at least three more tornadoes ripping through nebraska. >> go. >> reporter: one of them like a thief in the dark sky. you could only see it when the lightning flashed. >> look at the size of that thing. >> reporter: this destructive funnel nearly a mile wide touched down after dinner near coleridge just 45 miles from pilger, nebraska, where this morning families are just beginning to recover from monday's devastation after those twin twisters, an ef-2 and ef-4 nearly leffed the town. >> they had a 10 to 15-minute

warning however we did not know the second tornadoes were here until they just popped up. >> reporter: two people were killed and nearly two dozen are recovering from injuries and at this at-home day care every child made it out alive after being trapped in the basement. >> they had to have god watching over them. >> reporter: mary anne said she hid with her son and husband in a closet. she's lived here since 1972. >> i heard the glass breaking and the doors and things banging and that's all i remember. >> reporter: larry nelson lost his entire home. how tough is this? >> not sleeping very good. >> reporter: over 65 million people could see severe weather today from the dakotas to texas to pennsylvania. rob robin? >> all right, steve, thank you. now to the dramatic capture of the suspected mastermind of the attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi. that left four americans dead. american commandos grabbed him in a raid inside libya and he's

now being brought here to face charges. abc news chief investigative correspondent brian ross is here with the very latest on this. good morning, brian. >> reporter: the accused mastermind of those benghazi attacks is being interrogated on a u.s. navy ship in the mediterranean. after being captured in a lightning-quick nighttime raid by special forces right under the noses of the libyan government and the suspect's own militant fighters. abu khatallah had been sought by the u.s. for 21 months when he was finally captured in benghazi by u.s. special forces. >> no matter how long it takes, we will find those responsible and we will bring them to justice. >> reporter: the capture came as welcome news to the families of the four americans killed in the massive attack on u.s. facilities in benghazi. but the mother of one of them, sean smith told our san diego affiliate kgtv she still has many questions about what happened. >> i'm glad they got one of them. there was a whole bunch that set fire to that place. >> reporter: u.s. officials hope

abu khatallah can provide information on the others supposedly involved in the attack seen in these images released by the fbi. they are still at large. >> he is really the go-to guy when it comes to intelligence about the other conspirators involved with the attack on benghazi. >> reporter: benghazi has fueled a bitter and partisan debate that has focused on the role of then secretary of state hillary clinton. she was asked some tough questions about it on fox news last night. >> i had a very clear sense of priorities. protect our people, get them to safety. >> reporter: u.s. officials tell abc news that khatallah had been under surveillance in libya for months, in fact, interviewed by reporters for cnn and others denying his involvement and flaunting his presence in benghazi. >> if a cnn reporter can have an interview with him openly in a cafe, why couldn't we get to him sooner? >> reporter: so the key questions for abu khatallah are who ordered this and why?

answers that if truthful could help resolve that dispute in this country just over how it unfolded and who ordered it on that significant date of september 11th. robin. >> still so many unanswered questions. what's next? where will he face trial? >> in washington, d.c. on three charges which could include the death penalty. >> all right. thank you, brian. now to the crisis in iraq. islamic militants launching an attack on iraq's largest oil refinery overnight as president obama gets set to decide his next move meeting with congressional leaders this afternoon. jon karl is standing by with the latest from the white house and we begin with martha raddatz in baghdad. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning, george. let's talk about that oil refinery. it came under fire. mortar fire by those isis jihadist fighters. there was a firefight inside, but prime minister maliki said this morning that they have gained control of that refinery. if they lost control of it it would be a huge deal. we are talking about domestic consumption, we're talking about gasoline, cooking oil.

maliki also claims they've regained control of other parts of the country but that's yet to be seen. he did say mosul still is under control of those islamic militants. george. >> okay, martha. thank you. let's go to jon karl at the white house and, jon, the white house saying the president still has not made any decisions but doesn't seem in any hurry to order air strikes. >> reporter: no, that's right, george. still walking through his options with his national security team and i am told if the president ultimately decides to order air strikes, these will be extremely limited. along the lines of the drone strikes that we have seen in the united states, taking places in yemen and the pakistan tribal area, not a major air campaign that's where the president's thinking is right now. >> the white house still demanding real reforms from maliki. >> reporter: absolutely. that is before any significant military action. this he want him to address underlying political crisis, to reach out to the sunnis.

they have seen no indication he has done any of that yet. >> jon, thanks very much. to amy with the other top stories. good morning, everyone. we begin with a major development overnight in the violent showdown between russia and ukraine. just hours after speaking with russian president vladimir putin, ukraine's new president has announced a cease-fire to allow pro-russian rebels to lay down their weapons and leave the country. this is the first step in a larger peace plan that is now in the works. also breaking overnight, islamic militants who have been holding hundreds of schoolgirls in nigeria, have apparently struck again. this time targeting world cup soccer fans by setting off a bomb at a venue showing last night's game killing at least 21 people. back here at home a wildfire threatening dozens of homes along the arizona/new mexico border now grown to more than 19 square miles with more hot and windy conditions expected. about 50 homes and important grazing lands in that fire's path. and along awaited announcement could shake up the

prices also on the rise because of the drought. and with gas prices also climbing summer airfares have now posted the biggest monthly jump in 15 years. well, a pilot was killed when a small plane crashed in new york but as you look at these pictures it could have been much worse. the plane crashed in a yard and it just missed two homes. one caught on fire but the other and a baby inside were able to escape without any harm. and in kansas a driver survived this spectacular crash. his jeep suddenly smashed into a truck. it was parked along the road when it went airborne landing then in a ditch. no one else was injured. and finally, even famous athletes have to deal with the common annoyances of life. golfing superstar rory mcilroy has a big tournament in ireland tomorrow. guess what, he doesn't have his golf clubs. why, you ask, because united airlines lost them. here's my favorite part.

mcilroy tweeted, "hey, united, landed in dublin yesterday from newark. still no golf clubs. sort of need them this week. can someone help?" that will get their attention. right? the airline is promising they'll be delivered today. >> sure. >> yeah. >> even he has to call up and complain. wow. >> power of twitter. see if it works. >> see if they get there. we turn to that grilling on capitol hill for dr. oz. he is one of america's most famous and trusted doctors but he was under fire from members of congress for making claims on his tv show about miracle weight loss. abc's david kerley covered the contentious hearing in washington. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. dr. oz says he came here to crack down on scam marketers of diet products but it was dr. oz who got some of the toughest questions. >> welcome to a new season. >> reporter: america's trusted tv doctor -- >> this miracle pill can burn fat fast.

and i have nothing to do with it. and i keep blocking them. they keep doing it and keep telling my people who follow me this is not me but are able to somehow do this. it's aggravating. we'll move on to that teen stowaway who survived a flight from san jose to hawaii making the 5 1/2-hour trip hidden in the plane's wheel well speaking out for the first time about how he did it and why and abc's gio benitez is here with his story. good morning, gio. >> good morning. it's incredible. this 15-year-old says he crouched down and covered those ears as the plane took off and remembers being above the clouds and surviving that mind-boggling trip. >> can you believe that you survived that kind of trip? >> nope. >> reporter: it was a death-defying journey for the teenager who scaled the fence at the airport hiding in the wheel well of the hawaiian airline 767 where he remained in that unpressurized compartment for 5 1/2 hours reaching altitudes of 38,000 feet and surviving temperatures around a

negative 50 degrees before landing in maui. this surveillance video shows him dropping from the plane and wobbling around on the tarmac until an airport employee spotted him. now he's speaking to kpix, the cbs affiliate in san francisco. >> did you know where you were at at that point? >> i knew where i was at but if i wasn't dehydrated, i would have continued the trip. >> he was weak. he hung from the wheel well and then he fell to the ground and regained some strength. >> reporter: abc news went inside an actual wheel well just like the one abdi stowed away in. while it's certainly possible to climb this gear, once you get to the top there's really no place for a human to be. it's not like the airlines make a lot of extra room for these wheels. it's tight in there. >> the teenager says he ran away from home and was trying to get on a flight to see his mother in africa. >> i haven't seen her since i was young. >> reporter: but ended up in that hawaiian airlines jet simply by chance. >> i took that plane because it

byers. byers told authorities he last saw his friend chasing after his dog duke who had run into a creek, barefoot only wearing a t-shirt and shorts. he simply disappeared, according to byers. >> we found his backpack and footprints in the direction he was last seen going so we, you know, we're starting from there and working our way out methodically rock by rock, bush by bush. >> reporter: the campsite where he was last spotted is two days' hike into the back country here, an area almost twice the size of the grand canyon. it's remote, inaccessible terrain that will make him that much harder to find, that much harder to report him missing. it took the friend all weekend to hike out and call for help. >> is there any hint at all, any indication at all of foul play? >> no, no, not at this time. >> reporter: herdman who has a 6-year-old daughter had planned to be home for father's day. instead, his wife and friends including fellow firefighters have spent two agonizing days at the trailhead hoping for good news. you know, as a firefighter he is

usually doing the rescuing. now he is badly in need of rescuing himself and authorities are worried that the mild weather that we've had over the past couple of days may take a turn for the worse today, george. >> oh, gosh, the clock is ticking. thanks. >> thinking of him and his family. to the former white house lawyer charged with trying to kill his wife. michael farren has already lost a civil lawsuit and this morning his criminal trial is set to get under way. abc's ryan smith is here to tell us all about that. good morning, ryan. >> good morning, robin. nearly 4 1/2 years ago michael farren was arrested in his multi-million dollar mansion for allegedly brutalizing his wife. now after a myriad of appeals delaying the trial and giving up on representing himself jury selection starts today. this morning, jury selection is set to begin in the attempted murder trial of michael farren, a former white house lawyer for george w. bush now on the other side of the law. farren is accused of brutally beating his ex-wife at their connecticut mansion in 2010. at times allegedly hitting her

with a metal flashlight. >> he put his hands around my neck and in the same motion he tackled me to the floor. >> reporter: at a 2013 civil trial, mary farren testified the alleged attack was prompted by her serving her husband with divorce papers. >> in december, that civil jury awarded her nearly $29 million. michael ferren represented himself, but never actually showed up to court. claiming via e-mail, that he was in the hospital. in the civil case he didn't even show up, so a huge verdict was issued against him. but now he's going to have to be there and now his freedom is at stake. >> reporter: farren will not be representing himself in the criminal trial. he reportedly told a judge last week that the evidence against him was taking too large an emotional toll. >> it's always a bad idea to represent yourself in a criminal case and it's probably even a

country's largest oil refinery and now reportedly control a major road into that facility. earlier today iraqi forces claimed they had stopped the attack. president obama has reportedly ruled out a widespread bombing campaign against the militants. any u.s. air strikes would be limited. he's discussing his plans with congressional leaders today. and the suspected mastermind of the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi is now being questioned on a u.s. naval ship this morning. special forces captured ahmed abu khatallah in libya during a dramatic nighttime raid. he is now headed to washington where he's expected to face charges in civilian court which could carry the death penalty. and back in this country, a rafting trip in colorado turned into a nightmare. a gopro camera was rolling when the whitewater flipped this raft over in colorado. the woman there became separated from her raft floating downstream and being forced underwater several times. thankfully, she is an experienced swimmer and scuba

instructor and she says that is the only reason she was able to stay calm and make it back to the riverbank alive. well, a successful rescue in washington state after this horse became stuck in the mud for hours. his name is spike, and he weighs in at 3,000 pounds, but rescuers were able to get a harness around him and lift him into a tow truck, and guess what, guys, spike is going to be just fine. >> yay. and finally, i dare say this is something you have never seen before, bringing traffic to a sudden halt, yes, that's a stampede of ducks. they decided to cross in a very hurried manner a road in thailand all at once, and, look, they just keep coming and coming. there are hundreds of them as the ducks waddling through, the thousands, it turned out to be a mass exodus from a farm. not surprising here, they were on a road trip to get some food. don't get in the way of a hungry duck, people. >> road trip.

>> reporter: weddings, a monumental time in one's life. but for jamie hunsinger, she never thought that someone else's wedding would change her own life. >> growing up, i was always the biggest, tallest kid. you know, i would just come home after school, maybe not fitting in very well and would turn to that food. >> reporter: the 30-year-old mental health therapist tried everything to lose weight. but after getting the call in the fall of 2006 to be maid of honor in her stepsister's wedding, jamie had that aha moment. >> i knew i needed to regain control of my life that i let go. >> reporter: jamie's aunt recommended she try the program weight watchers and by the time of the wedding in june of 2007, jamie reached a milestone, 80 pounds gone. >> i got good compliments, which gave me even more motivation to keep going. >> reporter: and keep going, she did. after the birth of her daughter anna in 2010, jamie's weight

to tell too much but i think -- i'm just -- looking for the right moment, you know, it was on my mind. i was ready. i had made the commitment on one level. it just hasn't made the commitment -- >> all the way through and you're still a little -- not so much of a momma's boy this time. you're working on it. >> my momma is a really strong woman in this film so it tays my character a long time to break out of all that but he gets strong at the end. >> you appreciate you have two strong women. >> yes, i do. >> absolutely. >> we got to see more of you this time. gary, and your wife, we didn't see you in the first movie. didn't see her at all and you thought wendi, she's terrific and you said you didn't really think that that was going to be the person cast as your wife. >> i didn't see her at all. because, you know my wife in real life is black so this was a stretch for me because i -- i hadn't done that. you know, so -- it was like "brokeback mountain" so it was like, okay.

>> nothing like "brokeback mountain." >> i'm used to a color contrast in the bedroom. whoa, same color. >> two men, gary. >> okay, maybe it wasn't the best analogy. sorry. "crying game." >> that could get us into just a whole lot of trouble. you know, when the first time it was about relationships and this time around it's about the friendships and the guys are married. some of them are married now, the characters and you have to maintain that friendship. how you found it. >> that's what kind of makes the first one work, the stories are great and you fall in love with the couples but then you feel that all these characters care about each other so when we get to vegas for what is kind of a not so great idea, bachelor/bachelorette party on the wedding weekend on paper it makes for a great movie but in life -- >> the dumbest thing you can do in life. >> michael, you were supposed to be the best man and kevin's

character think he is and that's when everything starts going awry. >> that's kind of the story of my life. [ laughter ] you know, kevin just stands in front and then all -- then he just kind of co-ops the attention at that point, you know what i mean so, yeah, i was supposed to be the best man but, i don't know, made for a better movie with this man being the best man. >> i love the way it was done. >> such an innocent mistake but cedric, you know, my character would assume that it was him and at that moment i'm standing there he didn't even lock eyes with me. mike didn't even lock eyes with me but i knew he had to be talking to me and these guys put in a position, just let him have it. let him and mike's character dominic is such a good guy, he's like, it's okay, you know, mike, let him have it. we know what you meant. he's so honored but they're willing to let me have this because my character needs it. i need validation so much. so much in this movie. >> just in the movie, not in real life. >> real life i need nothing.

i put on a party shirt. i'm happy. i'm happy, baby. >> but it's what so great the women have a little more time on screen. >> they're amazing. >> and the way that you all separately come together it just absolutely works, romany. >> every time we did get to work with the girls on the set it felt leak a privilege because we didn't see them much but we knew they were having a great time and out instagraming us and tweeting us. >> yeah. >> on set and we'd run into the girls and it was like a new energy came about when we saw them just in the hallways. >> we were going to come on "good morning america" in bikinis to show them out but -- >> oh. >> we -- >> we weren't. terrence was the only one that felt like that. >> really? >> i will -- >> headline on e! news if you had done that the get your own show. >> the women honestly what they brought to this film is unreal. i mean they make the movie in my opinion, you know, in the first one you didn't get to see them together as friends and us
