abc7 news begins with breaking news. there are intense flames and smoke coming from several structures burning in sunnyvale. this is what happened after the fire burned for quite a while as the structures are absolutely gutted right now. we saw homeowners standing on the roof trying to save their own homes. ought homes are burning lantana drive in riverdale.

>> the three-alarm fire started at 9:25 and it is still a very active scene. we are down wind from the fire so i want to get right to the video and in the video you can see two houses and an outbuilding all up in flames. neighbors say the fire started between the two houses and quickly spread. firefighters tried to attack from the inside of the homes when they got here but the east wall of one of the houses started to give way and collapse and the firefighters quickly pulled out and started spraying the water defensively using one of their ladder trucks with multiple hoses. all residents in the homes are safe and accounted for and one owner said her dog did not make it out. it is a young dalmatian and it is unfortunate. they always walk the dog. we hope everything is okay but it is probably not. that is the unfortunate news

with the dog. as you can see in this video some of the neighbors took to their roof using garden hoses to protect their homes from the flames. the good news is that firefighters at this point believe they do have the fire under criminal and if you come back out here you can see that it is starting to relax. people are walking around at a more leisurely pace than the frantic pace this morning. they will be here for several hours and we will keep you post ed. more breaking news, over the scene of a train accident in mountain view, caltrain says it hit a pedestrian on the tracks and all trains were stopped as of about 10:30 this morning. police say northbound and southbound at central expressway has been shut down and caltrain is saying there is a bus rig in place between mountain view and san shown and california avenue

but there will be major delays. we will follow this on twitter@abc7newsbayarea. >> emergency crews have rescued a pilot after a small experimental plane flipped. it ended up on the runway partly submerged in water. the pilot's feet were in the water but he was strapped in the plane. crews attached proposed to will tail to get the aircraft on the wheels and the pilot." three was not hurt. the plane is okay. the cause is under investigation. >> we have breaking news in santa cruz county. crews are on scene of a fire burning at big basin redwood city estate park that has burned five acres on pine mountain well-known for hiking. cal fire is bringing in air support to fight the fire. >> wildfire training is taking place in east san jose. it is coming at a critical time. we cope with a long drought and high fire danger.

matt keller joins us from san jose. matt? >> check out the dry hillside in east san jose. i got new numbers great cal fire, they have responded to more than 2,100 fires, 70 percent increase compared to the average year. today, several dozen firefighters from the bay area including south san francisco, saratoga, pacifica, milpitas and gilroy gathered in grant ranch county park on the way up to mount hamilton and they are learning how to use tools to light fires in a safe way. this could create a fire break that could save homes and lives. firefighters are being trained to be strike team leaders meaning they will bring group of their firefighters and equipment into other parts of the state to help with wildfires. >> an issue is they don't understand what they are doing they are going to make the problem worse and someone could get hurt or killed. >> you are trying to make sure they know how to do it correctly. >> thank you is our goal do make them understand how to use it, when to use it, and that it will

benefit and not hurt someone. >> the director just issued an order this morning suspending open burning for the state responsibility area that is 31 million acres so the suspension of all residential burn permits, forest management, hazard abatement and other industrial type permitted burning. campfires can be allowed but check with local authorities before you start. cal fire sites the drought condition as a major factor in the order. the training session will take place today and tomorrow in the park so expect to see some smoke in east san jose. thank you. we will check with meteorologist mike nicco to see about the conditions crews are facing today. mike? >> we know the ground is exceptionally dry because of the drought and most of california in the highest two categories of the drought category but the temperatures today have us concerned. we will look at what is going on as we look from the east bay hills you can see how hazy it is but it is not a "spare the air" day that is high pressure

trapping the pollution and creating the sunshine needed to push us four to eight degrees warmer-than-average. most of us are in the 80's on nearly 90 degrees. the relative humidity is very dry in many areas, less than 25 percent concord, livermore, fairfield, santa rosa, 3 percent in places like san jose, and 39 percent in hayward and 42 percent in mountain view and the air is dry. the heat of the forecast is if anything ignites, our winds are variable and less than ten miles per hour so that is a byproduct of high pressure. when the winds do come back starting together, they are going to be cooler and they will have more humidity with it but not critical fire conditions but, still, the ground and the air is dry today so something dough go up quickly but it will not spread quickly. kristen? thank you, mike, look at the water main break in berkeley it is disrupting service to 30 east bay mud customers. the utility says the 1929 cast

>> right now in san francisco, pg&e is giving the first public workshop on the substation shooting incident. in april, 17 san franciscos -- in san francisco, 17 transformers were knocked out, and through necessity have shielding and againsting for certain equipment. pg&e spokesman says the shooting shifted focus from keeping people out of the substations to protecting the exterior. >> the suspected mastermind of the attack on americans in benghazi two years ago is being interrogated on a naval ship in the mediterranean this morning. ahmed abu khattala will be brought to the united states for trial. developing news...president

obama called top congressional leaders to the white house this afternoon to talk about how to respond to the collapsing security situation in iraq. militants marching toward baghdad attacked the largest oil refineries 130 miles north of the capital. the attack went on all night long. fighters targeted with mortar shells at the refinery and the iraqi prime minister is calling for unity but the calls have been ignored because he faces accusations of stoking the violence. new this morning, congress is demanding answers about why general motors waited a decade to recall cars with a deadly safety defect. this morning, g.m. c.e.o. marry gather was back on the -- mary barra was back on the hotseat over the internal investigation into the recall of 2.6 million cars. faulty ignition switches have been linked to 13 deaths.

this morning, she stressed that changes are underway at g.m. >> we have made a number of personnel decisions, 15 individuals identified in the report are no longer with the company. >> we have restructured our safety decision making process to raise it to the highest levels of the company. families of crash victims held an emotional news conference in washington, dc, saying that g.m. needs to make things right. they say they will begin processing compensation claims by august 1. >> protesters are taking a stand against the delivery of a bay area home furnishing retailer massive catalog returning 100 bundles of restoration hardware catalogs that weigh 17 pounds in total. the company says that the huge package of catalogs was actually meant to be a greener approach with one big delivery opposed to several a year. protests say it is still a big waste of paper.

annually for the city. the loss is a big revenue bid for the transit agency. >> california needs to step it up for water conservation. people in the bay area have cut water use by just 2 percent over a five-month period which is a lot less than the 20 percent reduction requested by the governor in january when he declared a drought emergency. the state water resources control board says that california put its water use at 5 percent betweenian and may of this year and the water agency hopes to see more progress in the months ahead. >> the summer is right around the corner and we saw some beautiful weather. >> just three days away and it will not feel like it when we get there. >> it will be cooler than today. good morning from the top of the broadcast center. you can see the haze behind me, and ferry boat bringing in the folks to san francisco and i see a few patrons headed over to pier 15 known as the exploritorium. we will look at what is going on

as far as live doppler 7 hd and you can see it is quiet outside. we have total sunshine out to the coast and that is what is going to be the bridge change tomorrow, the sea breeze and marine layer re-develop and we start to see that, with clouds returning to the coast and cooler weather for all of us but until then, 68 in san francisco, low-to-mid 70's along the east bay shoreline down into san jose at 75 and 81 in los gatos and those temperatures are reminiscent of santa rosa and east bay valley and about 77 in mountain view and half moon bay, 61 degrees with light wind. this is how it looks at the golden gate bridge, not a bad day for pictures but it is just a little hazy. warmest day this week. dress accordingly. more clouds and cooling starts tomorrow and headed toward saturday when summer starts our temperatures fall back to near normal level. not a tremendous amount of cooling but it is going to be cooler by then. today, as mentioned, the warmest day and we are five to nine degrees warmer from los gatos to
