at this point firefighters are say it has been an active investigation. they had to cut through the garage. the mom said she operated an in home day care out of the house she no longer does and only her family was home at that time. heavy smoke and flames led to wake up you never want to get. . >> i was woken up by my mother. she barged in, yelling. and saying there is fire, house on fire, you need to get out. >> eric thought his mom was joking. >> then, i knew my mom is not a great alaska >> they walk their dog and it's unfortunate. >> tree trimmers spotted the fire and started to bang on

on ramp to westbound 80 in fairfield. you can see it doesn't appear to be a huge fire looking from live shots. but any time there is smoke next to a freeway, it's dangerous for drivers and can cause distractions and back ups we'll keep watching this for you and we'll have breaking news updates on twitter. >> developing news now. another grass fire in contra costa county. sky 7 gives us a live look at the impact of the fire threatening homes for a short time this afternoon. on clearland drive in bay point the fire started just about an hour ago. you can see char marks on the side of the home. showing just how close the flames got. crews worked fast to keep flames from destroying any homes. >> and fire investigators are back on the scene of a series of sus spishus fires in oakland hills. five separate fires broke out. today, firefighters were walking

along trails where the fires started, trying to see if they can figure out where, and how they're set. investigators say the fires looked suspicious and there was not enough wind to spread embers that quickly. >> firefighters from around the bay area began five days of wildland fire training. a much-needed event. cal fire responded to 2100 fires this year, 70 more than this time in an average year, crews, learning how to safely light that fire. >> one of the issues is they don't understand what they're doing they can make the problem worse. someone can get hurt or killed. that is what you're trying to do. >> that is what our goal here is, to make them understand how and when to use it. you know? and will benefit, not hurt someone. >> the reading on the same day cal fire issued an order suspending open burning on 3100

acres of ban. camp fires may still be allowed. >> to developing news now. a woman died in a rollover accident in vallejo. chp says she was ejected from a black sports car just west of mayor island. officers say the car rolled over several times and landed on wheels. the woman was not wearing a seat belt and she was the only person in the car at that time. >> an attack on a pg&e substation created concern. some considering it a terrorist attack. >> today, pg&e went before the state p.u.c to talk about that as well as substation safety. abc7 news was there. wayne? >> it was a federal regulator describing it as an act of domestic terror.

train hit a pedestrian on the tracks just after 10:00 this morning. no one on the train was injured. bus shuttles took passengers where they needed to go. train service had been restored. today's fatality is the fourth on a cal train track so far this year. >> fire crews pulled a pilot to safety after a plane crashed into a ditch in novato the plane flipped over, ending up in a ditch, partially submerged in water the pilot was not injured. crews attached ropes to the tail and were able to pull it out of the ditch. no word on what caused that accident. >> still ahead on abc7 news at 4:00, amazon styles up a new product. is the smart phone good for shoppers? plus... >> some world cup fans will do just about anything to get into a game. >> yes. new at 4:30, why the people were hired to take care of your loved ones say no one is taking care

>> actor michael jayce pleaded not guilty to the shooting death of his wife in their home. police claim he shot and killed his wife, april last month while his two young children were home. today a judge ordered him to stay away from his children and not contact them if he is released on $2 million bail. he is due back in court in august for the possible start of a preliminary hearing. >> the washington redskins plan to appeal a decision to that could become the catalyst for the team to change its name. the u.s. patent office ruled redskins nickname is dispairaging of native americans and cancelled the team's federal trademarks analysts sfa that holds it up would allow anyone to sell redskins merchandise without paying a license for the products we're talking millions of dollars. the nfl would lose as well the decision similar to one issued in 1999, later overturned in 2003.
