this is the closest the fire looks like it's taking over by the railroad tracks across the way. and i do have co-workers that did say he was evacuated. >> we're looking at live pictures how quickly from the time the fire started did you see the first truck? >> i saw gray coverage in the sky, then, i'm seeing fire less than a football field away. >> so they pounced on it as best you can tell? >> they did get there quickly. i did see about an hour an hour, i can tell. >> thank you so much, stay safe. we have spencer christian here

with us. you can see the smoke going to the right of the screen. it's just -- yes. >> there is winds out of the west at about 17 miles per hour. gusting to 25 miles per hour. while this isn't helpful, it's not unusual. in this location, to have winds in 25 miles per hour range. weather conditions are typical, at that location, of course not helpful. humidity is on the low side. next 2, 3 hours we'll see winds diminished just a bit. and humidity rising just a little bit. and at the moment, again, conditions aren't helpful, they're not outside of the normal range.

the map shows conditions last week. on the right is this week. three new drought areas added now considered exceptional for a total of # 3%. it's especially bad in briar r byron and mountain house areas. farmers have been told they won't have enough water to plant crops. it is tough. >> we're in mountain house. this is one district serving this area where there are residential customers as well as brentwood down the road there are growers. now, if the drought continues it would imfact their livelihood. >> you can see, it's empty now. sounds like it might remain empty. >> this ten acre blot mrot was

ready to plant but local irrigation district gave him a warning. >> i was advised plantings here i should not do. they're looking at having no water available to us i intended to grow organic tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans among other things >> now, all he can do is wait. mostly to decide whether the irrigation district that supplies water will receive allegations. now, the canal is full. in july, the spigot could be turned off completely. he has been able to maximize other plots of lands in another water district that won't see a cut from the state. from those, he's able to offer a

permits of a controversial freeway project plagued by environmental and financial issues the construction on highway 101 where caltrans is building a freeway bypass. this is a project we have been asking tough questions more than a year. construction started last year, caltrans is behind schedule on required protections and improvements for the environment. we reported last week there are major erosion problems the new freeway going through federally protected wetlands. this is what it looked like last may and this, this year. impact so severe, u.s. army corps of engineers required caltrans to restore 400 acres to
