>> good morning, i'm cornell barnrd, in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. we may be looking at live doppler 7hd showing raindrops by the middle of the week. here's the east bay hills camera. not much fog. a little at the surface. 56 concord. and hook for temperatures to slowly climb through the 60s and 70s by noontime. we will get into the warmup. but by the afternoon mid-60s should do it for the inland east bay. 70s bay, 60s coast, and what about the rain? we will talk about it in a few minutes. cornell. >> thank you very much, lisa. breaking news out of the east bay. several people are displaced

following a house fire in concord. the two alocker room fire broke out just after 6 :00 a.m. crews had the fire undercontrol about an hour later but it caused damage to neighboring homes. no reports of injuries and no word yet on what started that fire. well, this morning firefighters warned that fire season is only going to get worst. the warning comes after a fire comes dangerously close to homes in the east bay. we have the details from contra costa county. >> reporter: they fought the fire from the air and from the ground as it lept to life on the dry, grassy hillside. >> it was scary, absolutely scary. >> homeowners leaped into action without much success. >> i dropped the hose and just took off. >> the fire crept into six yards, burned several retaining walls and trees. everything expected the

palmers' house to be destroyed. the flames were 30 feet tall when they reached the backyard. >> i started with the garden hose when it was in this area. it was outside the fence. but then before long it got right over here and just jumped. >> the wind just blew it and it just jumped and it was crazy. it went to the left, and then it went to the right. >> bobby and phil ran for their lives as the fire consumed their shed, which was just ten feet from their home. fire crews arrived just in time. they saved the home. words could hardly express the palmers' ' gratitude. >> the smile on your face says it all. >> thank you so much. thank you. >> even as the chief admitted, this could have been a lot worse. >> we could have had a lot of homes with the way the winds are moving right now. it's very difficult. large flames like this. >> the cause of the fire is still under investigation. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news.

>> the contra costa fire marshal tells us there has already been significantly more fires so far this year than usual. usually we are at this count in september or october, not mid-june. embers from a wildfire blew across 680 and ag nighted a home. yesterday the owners looked toward rebuilding. sky 7hd captured she's these amazing pictures of the fire. it burned several outbuildings along with heather and evan thornton's home. yesterday they found heather's engagement ring buried in the charred remnants of the bedroom. >> i saved by wedding dress already, and this is just like, everything is going to be all right. our wedding is still going to happen. >> heather's cousin started a campaign to raise money for the wedding. a local church also offered to host their upcoming wedding reception. the wedding was supposed to take

place at their house. >> officers found a teenage boy at a party shot in the chest. three other people were also chest. they were all taken to the hospital where the teenager died. suspect got way in a car being driven by a woman. and two others may have also been in the car. a pilot is dead after his experimental aircraft crashed near livermore. it happened after 5:00 p.m. yesterday after the pilot of just took off. pilot was probably in trouble from the time he took off. >> we have witnesses that say they saw smoke. based on the pilot's action, if he in fact jumped from the plane, it would lead us to believe perhaps it was on fire and he was in a very, very difficult situation and chose to jump out. >> the pilot's body was found 300 yards from the plane. sparks from the crash set a brush fire that was contained after burning an acre and a and

a half. >> a monday from san leandro has died at a music festival in los angeles. he was taken to a hospital. the county coroner has not said hu he died. this is a daisy carnival. 140,000 people attended friday night. las vegas police report there were 250 calls for medical help. the death comes after a 15-year-old girl died of a drug overdose at the same festival back in 2010. >> the closer of a popular tourist spot was start this had weekend. lombard street, the so-called cookeddest street in the world, closed down today from noon to six. it will happen over four weekends to ease traffic congestion. but instead of cars, it was clogged with people yesterday. we have more from lombard street. >> reporter: for six hours they

strolled, snapped pictures and took in one of the most popular sites in the city, the world's crookedest street. >> this is one of our top five. we wanted to go to alcatraz and we wanted to come here also. >> over the years residents have had trouble getting through the gridlock of tourists hoping to drive down the street. this is just a sample. cars lined up past six when they are allowed to drive down again. >> it will be anywhere from a 20 to 40 minute wait on a dally basis at peak hours and that's magnified during the summertime. >> lombard street will be close today vehicle traffic between noon and six on saturday and sunday to see if it's a viable option. >> there doesn't seem to be too much chaos here. in fact, it looks really clear. during a heavy weekend this locks up up here. >> so far he's a fan of the experiment, but he says the real test will come in a couple weekends.

>> this is the first one so we will see how it goes. 4th of july will be a challenge, i'm sure. it always is. >> residents are given a path allowing them to drive down the street to get home and cabs are also allowed to drive down. for repeat visitors the walk is an opportunity to change-up the experience. >> have you ever been to lombard before? >> i have. >> did you drive down? >> i drove down. but it was awesome. it was totally awesome. and now we are going to try to walk it. >> over the four weekends of the pilot project, they will set the management of traffic and also the management of parking in this neighborhood. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> happening now, the women's half-marathon and 5k run gets underway in the east bay. traffic delays on the intersection of island drive and harbor parkway. and shoreline drive should experience closers and delays

until about 1:00 this afternoon. tomorrow officials in marin county will take up a proposal for a solar facility that would power more than 500 homes. according to our media partner, "the marin independent journal," the proposed facility would be located on a former rock quarry outside of novato. the $6 million project would have more than solar panels that would generate under two meg watts of electricity. electricity would be delivered to marin clean energy via nearby powerlines. >> the ongoing drought is taking its toll on summer fun for campers in san mateo county. due to conditions, officials say no camping allowed in memorial park for the duration of the season which he understands in -- ends in october. campers with reservations will be contacted by phone or e-mail and will be offered the opportunity to reschedule their reservation for 2015 or request a full refund of camping fees. straight ahead, the next challenge for the men's us soccer team and a preview of the

>> 50,000 nascar fans are expected at sonoma regulation way today. qualifiers were yesterday. jamey mcmurray set a record and won the poll. expect heavy traffic because of the race. to help ease the gridlock, caltran has added extra officers and parking spots at the racetrack and rode signs to direct drivers. the big race starts today at noon. traffic will be bad. i got caught in it yesterday. i was warned, i know. but should be a beautiful day out there today, right? >> yeah, it can get really warm up there. today about 80. that's do-able. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. we are looking at the clouds and low fog. right now there is a delay at the marin coast. sunshine around point reyes and stinson beach. the fog is not going to be far off. even if it starts to pull back

along ocean beach for a little bit. but overall i think we are looking at the clouds. san mateo with the marine layer up to about 1,000 feet. good morning half moon bay, three mile visibility at 54. the warmer locks from oakland to san carlos. 57 degrees. and here's where it looks like from our east bay hills at about 1700 feet. fog has really dissipated and we are looking at low 60s in fair feel. southwest winds up to 15 miles an hour. we will see 80s, mid-80s. football really nice around the bay with just low 80s returning to concord. and river more. santa rosa, you will get into the low to mid-60s. san jose sunny all morning long. low clouds and fog. they will become quite patchy throughout the rest of the morning and into the afternoon. the coast remains clear. it will be warm inland, and this pattern, if you like it, it continues throughout most of the work week. we will take it for tomorrow and tuesday and maybe a few degrees

warmer. here's where the fog will sit throughout the rest of the day. and by wednesday, we've got a deep trough that will bring our temperatures down at least 10 degrees. but it can also bring some precip into the north bay. so right now the computer model goes five days out is predicting perhaps the north bay from point reyes, sonoma county and northern marin county could pick up a couple hundred regulates. we will watch it for you. interesting happenings the next couple days. 78 in san jose. enjoy the mid-80s if you head toward gilroy and morgan hill. mid-70s closer to the water from mountain view. 75 palo alto with low 70s for san mateo. by the airport sunshine, mid-60s. 64 downtown. and about 60 in the sun set. daly city rather gray, upper 70s for petaluma. 82 in napa. near east bay more 70s for san
