>>the unable and the dry hillside behind it. firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. a friend was staying with the family sleeping in a downstairs bedroom and he smelled the smoke at 7:00 this morning or before. he says he saw fire in the grass so he is convinced it started as a grandson fire and spread to the home. neighbors heard an explosion. that was the barbecue grill's propane tank exploding of the three people were inside the home. everyone got out safely. so did the family dog. the house is still standing but has significant damage. >> it is a shock you watch a friend's house go up in flames. you know the loss. you walk in the house and see the pictures of the kids growing up, things you cannot get back but most important, everyone is all right. the home is for sale. the homeowner and the family friend worked on hope improvement projects on the home all week long. firefighters say they will look

to see if any of the workplace add role in triggering the fire. the friend does not think that it did. >> firefighters will spend the day watching over the home and into the evening. there is a dry hillside behind it, a canyon full of dry brush and they want to make sure it doesn't spark another fire. thank you, amy. self people have been sent to the hospital after a major crash at a mcdonald's parking lot in vallejo. the driver of this car suffered a medical issue and slammed into a line of cars waiting at the drive through at mcdonald's on sonoma boulevard. the car flipped on its side. three other cars waiting to order were damaged. the fire department says at least five people have been taken to the hospital for treatment. >> breaking news from oakland where two are accused of shooting and killing a toddler three years ago are found guilty. the prosecution says these two men were in a gun battle with

rival gang members. a three-year-old was riding in a toy car during a trip to the grocery store with his mother and he was caught in the crossfire. this happened along international boulevard near 64th in august of 2011. the boy died outside a pizzaria. laura is covering the verdict with reaction from at 4:00. the f.b.i. is releasing details of a nationwide crackdown on a human trafficking of children called "operation cross country," involves law enforcementations in 136 cities including arrests in self bay area cities. we went with the f.b.i. and local police. we will give you a look right now from f.b.i. headquarters in washington, dc, where you can see f.b.i. director, just starting a news conference to provide results of the operation. this is going to be going on for

some time so we will monitor this and our reporter will have full coverage later abc7 news. opening statements underway in the criminal trial of a firm elementary teacher including molestation involving at least 13 former students. martin taught 4th and 5th grade in con covered and arrested in june of last year. police investigated him after getting results he touched students inappropriately. he was leaded not guilty to all of the charges. san francisco police are appealing to the public for tips after more suspicious fires over the weekend. the latest was at two newspaper stands at 11 o'clock. police say they were started ten minutes of each other on 1st and mission and then howard. the fires follow a series of other fires, one set near st. patrick's church near mission street. a few hours before that, another

fire was reported at a construction site open 2nd and howard. there is no major damage at either site. there is a special arson task force formed to track down those responsible. >> the crisis in iraq. secretary of state john kerry made a surprise visit to baghdad as more areas of the country fall to the militant islamic group calmed isie with a visit aimed at putting pressure on iraq's political leaders to step up their efforts, to curb sectarian violence. here is the latest. >> secretary of state john kerry is on the most challenging mission. this is a moment when the stakes for iraq could not be clearer. >> on a visit to baghdad he is using rapid fire diplomacy as he meets with leaders, with the security situation growing worse. john kerry started with a two-hour meeting with prime minister maliki who is facing

could damage the electricity grid and control the water supply. >> this unintended threat could pose grave consequences. right now, there is a memorial for a man killed by a light rail train in san jose. police say it appears the victim was running after his dog when he was hit. it happened at southwest expressway after 9:00 last night. the victim was in his 50's. they have not yet identified him. someone place add candle next to the traps reads "rest in peace, michael." there is a giants' hat and flowers. earlier this year a 14-year-old girl was killed in january. tomorrow, the ntsb will issue the official findings into the cause of the crash of asiana flight 214 last year.

three teens were killed and more than 180 people injured when the plane it is a seawall coming in for a landing. i talked with the former head of the ntsb in an abc7 exclusive interview about what to expect. >> they could issue recommendations to the aircraft manufacturer about information that could be in their manuals for turning a pilot. or make recommendations to the airline. they could make recommendations to training centers because a lot of this training is contracted out to third parties. finally, they could make recommendations to the regulator. we have learned there is more trouble for asian airlines. the south korean government suspended flights to japan for a week after the pilots took off despite discovery an engine problem beforehand. we will be in washington for the ntsb meeting and our reporter will provide coverage right here.

world cup fever is getting hotter. the americans will try again to advance to the income round after a diagnosis apointing tie year. we will get to that game in a second. but, first, soccer fans are watching the world cup match. the netherlands beat chile 2-0. chile will go on to face brazil in the round of 16. and king usa came back from a deficit against portugal to take the lead. the united states team needed to hang on for only 30 more seconds to clinch a victory but portugal scored and that tied the game at two. the last-minute goal has prevented the members from advancing out of the group stage and into the knock out stage. team u.s.a. will face germany on thursday morning and now need as tie or a win to move forward.

happening right now the ground-breaking for a truly ground breaking playground. it is designed to fully include kids with all types of special needs. our reporter is in palo alto. matt? >> the ground breaking ceremony started 15 minutes ago and 100 people are here. organizers are talking about it now, the palo alto mayor and a county supervisor will be here speaking, soon, and, others say the magical bridge playground is the first of its kind in the nation catering to children with disabilities and the parents with disability. check out the drawings, it will be different. the playground will have seven zones for visually impaired to navigate on the ground. there is a twoen story tree house that is accessible by wheelchair and retreat areas are set up for children with autism that are overstimulated bit traditional park and interactive music experience and kid

friendly stage. organizers say although you will see wheelchair ramps in other parts it doesn't make them accessible to everyone. >> really, 90 percent of people with disabilities have other disabilities beside being wheelchair users. no parks have been designed with them in mind and we think it is time to have a community playground for the whole community so the kids have the same opportunity as every other child in their neighborhood which is meaningful and sets them up forç success. >> the friends of the playground created this youtube video and raised $3.21 million but need an additional $300,000. most of the money raised came from private donations at $450,000 from the city of palo alto and santa clara county. i have one of the ceremonial shovels, the gold plated kind and they will do the ceremonial digging in a few minutes. the park is expected to go under construction starting next week

and be completed by the end of the year. >> so exciting, thank you. >> we have a new study that is tragic, young people who use tanning beds could be at an increased risk of developing certain types of skin cancer early if life. if you are younger than 20, indoor tanning can double your risk of developing carcinoma by the age of 50 compared to those would never used the tanning devices. it is a slow growing type of skin cancer and the results underscore the importance of counseling teens and young adults about the risks of indoor tanning. the study is in the medical journal of pediatrics. >> outdoor tanning do not forget the sunscreen. there is bright sunshine out there. >> go outside and find out that is in store. meteorologist mike nicco? we are top of bay, abc7 broadcast center again and you can see the winds are blowing

out but nothing like later today when they pick up and that will keep the clouds away from us and of my them out of the coast in some areas. we will look at live doppler 7 hd and you can see how variable they are, the fastest at sfo at 13 miles per hour, and fairfield is 12. as we head into the afternoon hours we are going to get a wind at 15- to 25-knots across the bay into the delta so we have a small craft advisory and that extended to the coast where the winds could go up to 30 knots at least through wednesday morning. look how we have clouds this morning quickly evaporating and the clouds will hang around but we will see breaks of sunshine from time to time with the north bay coast seeing most of the sunshine at our beaches today. temperatures running in the upper 50's at half moon bay and san francisco and low 60's around oakland and hayward and mid-to-upper 60's for the bay shore to the south bay and los gatos is 75. 70's around san rafael and santa

rosa and, already, 81 in antioch. this is how it looks from the east bay hills: the cap is on the atmosphere. the sunshine is hazy for most of us and becoming breezy. warmer than yesterday. maybe a degree or two. not even noticeable. a cooling trend in the middle of the week and back to average by the end of the weekend with mid-to-upper 70's in the south bay and mid-80's in los gatos and gilroy. and millbrae is 69. upper 50's to low 60's along the coast and upper 70's to low 80's most of the north bay until you get to napa at 83 and the beaches, you can see 20 degrees cooler with the sunshine and upper 60's berkeley and hayward. and inland, that is are we will have low-to-mid 80's and the exception is san ramon at 79 and brentwood is 87. the padres are here to take on

the giants and it will drop into 56 and it will keep dropping with the greatest concentration of clouds along the coast. probably not so many as this morning. the area of low-to-upper shows the bulk of the energy headed north and because of that we will get the end of that system. look how close the rain gets to us. we could even have drizzle on wednesday night and thursday morning along the north bay coast with the measurable rain well to our north. even if we received some it would not be enough to even stop or slow down this terrible drought we are under. the temperatures have doned. by thursday we are five or ten degrees cooler. headed through the week, by sunday, we are nearly 90 inland and 80's at the bay and 60's at the coast. >> speaking of the drought, san francisco water officials will update city residents on conservation efforts and asking
