fire. >> an oakland firefighter is in critical condition tonight. after his airport crash rig flipped over, during a routine drill. sky 7 hd shows where the accident happened along a taxi way at oakland international airport. the chief says the injured firefighter was the only one inside of the giant truck when it tipped over and crashed while he was turning. he's a 8-year veteran. >> the departmr#u is in shock. like i said this firefighter was very well known. and liked. with all of the members within the organization. we're really praying for him. you know? for his recovery. >> this morning's drill tested how fast crews can respond and this accident was not by a runway. >> george lucas has chosen not to build his museum in san francisco. chicago's rare confirming he

and relied on systems they did not fully understand they said complexity did contribute to the crash. and they called the fire department for running over a teen-aged victim who survived this crash but was thrown on to the runway we have team coverage here for you tonight beginning with lillian kim joining us live in washington, d.c. lillian? >> national transportation safety board says pilot mismanagement was the main cause but says boeing had a role, too. before asiana flight 24 crashed on july 6th, a member of the crew deak ti vated automatic speed control system without knowing it. it was a fatal error. the pilot didn't notice the plane was losing speed until it's too late. >> pilots must understand and command their auto make and not become overreliant on it >> but the national transportation safety board says other factors also contributed

that is quite complicated. the boeing 777 had a air speed control system to understand it, you need only to get in your car. the boeing's auto throttle is sort of like cruise control in the car. you turn it on, and press set. you hit brakes it disengages. it's still on. now, you just need to hit the resume button to get back to your speed the pilot thought auto throttle had resumed speed. and it had not. somehow failed to notice it wasn't keeping up. it went down to 134 knots, then dropped to as low as 103 knots.
