live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. good morning on wednesday at 5:00. thanks for joining us. boy, leyla gulen has been busy early on this wednesday morning. so has mike. we will start with the big traffic problem on the bay bridge. >> we are looking right now at westbound along 80 the fifth street off-ramp is closed because of police activity in a fiery crash at 5th street and harrison. amy hollyfield is on the soon bringing us the details and how long the sig-alert. be with us. it is certainly going to impact our commute because it will be

around for hours. as we take you over to the scene, westbound 80 at fifth street the off-ramp is shut down and you can use first street coming off of the bay bridge. as we take you into fremont we have another sig-alert northbound 880, at mission boulevard, really, 680 is the best alternate to get around this with four lanes blocked that is causing quite the bottleneck. avoid that area until further notice. follow me on twitter and i will give you the details as they become visible. right new we will talk to meteorologist mike nicco with the weather. it is fore and windy. >> a change. it looks less like summer this morning. we can see the lowest clouds and low of the visibility on live doppler 7 hd at half moon bay. we have reports of drizzle along the coast and the peninsula because of the thick are cloud deck that is at the top of sutro tower. get ready for less sunshine and a cooler breeze with

temperatures only 75 to 84 inland and 59 to 65 along the coast into downtown san francisco and 68 to 77 away the bay. our best chance of drizzle from now until 9:00 but we will have a couple more chances in the seven-day outlook. more now on the breaking news leyla gulen was talking about, san francisco police and the c.h.p. are investigating a fatal crash that triggered the sig-alert along 80 coming into san francisco and our reporter is is live with the report. >> c.h.p. plans to be here for a while. here is video take were after the quaterback happened and the c.h.p. was pursuing the car at 3:00 this morning and they were headed over the bay bridge. the car crashed and burst into flames and officers say the two people inside the car died. there were no survivors. the c.h.p. was pursuing the car across the bridge and they were speeding. the cars with trying to exit at 5th and harrison when it

crashed. harrison is closed at 5th street and so is the off-ramp. do future country on this area for the commute. they believe it will be closed off for hours. it will take them a while to conduct the investigation. make alternate plans if you usually come through here. we are about to get briefed by a public information officer at the scene hoping to get more details on what led up to the crash. we will continue to follow this story so stay with us. >> breaking news from oakland, crews are on the scene of an apartment fire on 39th avenue near international boulevard that break out in a four-unit building firefighters say two units were burning when they arrived and everyone got out safely. the fire displaced 17 including five children. >> if you see jedi nights walking around san francisco south of market is not because

fallout this morning after the national transportation safety board issued the final report on the crash asiana flight 214 at sfo that killed three people and help juried -- injured 180. ntsb pinned most of the blame on the pilots nor not understanding the technology and being tired. the board also said the complexity of flight control systems contributed to the crash. it faulted the san francisco fire department after a truck ran over and killed a teen who survived the crash but was then out of the plane on to the runway. a burlingame lawyer representing 14 passengers in a lawsuit against boeing and asiana says blaming the pilots ignores a larger problem. >> this is not all pilots too tired not paying attention. that is true. but if you do that you are only looking at the tip of the iceburg. there is a bigger story here on the automatic system.

over the altamont pass. the san mateo bridge is the drive headed across the water to the peninsula and another high wind advisory so be careful. you have high winds and fog in some places but machine machine has more dill -- but meteorologist mike nicco has news on that. >> the higher elevations have fog around 400 or on feet in the higher elevations with patchy fog. winds are 12 miles per hour at sfo and 24 in fairfield so we have a stout sea breeze which is why it is so cloudy. the winds pick up on the bay shore and into the delta with a small craft advisory until 9:00 this evening, and west wind at 15- to 25-knots and along the beaches, northwest wind at 30 knots. the exploritorium looks different than yesterday, the water is not so bad, but the cloud deck is on top of the tops

fiery crash that killed two people. our news reporter is live at 5th and harrison. you got an update, amy hollyfield? >> i got a briefing from officers who say the car the two people were drying was stolen. here is video taken after the cash. the car as it was exiting 5th and harry son hit a wall or a barrier. they do not know why. it burst into flames. there were no survivors. the two people inside the car were killed. the officer was northbound and spotted the car and ran the plates and realized it was stolen and started to pursue it and the driver refused to stop so a chasten sued a chase ensue ed. the speeds did get up there. harrison is closed right now. so is the off-ramp. we have a picture of closure

from our south beach camera. the ramp will be closed for hours. do not count on it. we got a bit offed if news for drivers they are looking to open up harrison street soon. they are asking us to move out of here to get the road open. it looks like you can count on harrison street for part your commute if you need it to get away the city. do not count on the off-ramp. it will be closed for hours. a veteran oakland firefighter is in the hospital this morning after he was critically injured during a routine training exercise. the 55-year-old mitchell ow was hurt when his truck flip, he is a 25 career veteran. it was loaded with 3,000 pounds of water. it rolled when he turned. >> this is a more experienced firefighters at the station. he was wearing his seatbelt.

i got an official report that a firefighter unnapped his seatbelt. >> ow has been stationed at oakland airport for seven years and involving at highland hospital in oakland. firefighters turned out throughout the day if a show of support. >> oakland police are investigating a shooting that last a woman dead and a man eneurpoed. it happened before 7:00 last night near douglas and eads and the woman was in her 20's. a 31-year-old man was shot in the foot. officers gathered several pieces of evidence at the scene but police have not yet said what led up to the shooting or if the victims knew each other. >> a man is dead after the home caught fire yesterday. the elderly man could not escape the fire in his home on san carlos way living here with his adult son in union city. another person was taken to the official but officials have not said how badly that person is hurt. a retired firefighter tried to get in through a window but

unked it back because the smock was too thick and the fire too shot. >> they went through the front door and,ed would their way back and they located him in another part of the house. >> they found the victim near the living room close to where the fire started. firefighters do not know what sparked the place but they have not found anything suspicious. >> an attorney for bryan stow confirms the beating victim suffered a stroke ten days ago while the civil lawsuit against the dodgersens. fox news in los angeles reports the tone says his client is coming back okay from the strong and will be speaking with him today. but bryan stow cannot attend closing arguments in court. he is suing the lodgeers for negligence in the 2011 attack outside the stadium that last him with permanent brain injuries. a doctor testifying in the trial says he has reached a lat to in treatment and may never improve. roasts are planned outside

mascone center where the google developers conference is underway with 6,000 developers registered to attend the google of vent to explore and share new product ideas. google glass are some things that will be showed off at the conference. demonstrators, dressed in "star wars" costumes will protest the negative impact that the companies are having in the bay area, they say, including soaring housing costs and traffic problem. we will have a report from the mascone center at the top of the hour. a new poll shows governor brown is far ahead of his republican challenger in the upcoming list for governor. brown leads neel kashkari but 20 percentage points in the general election race. brown is ahead 52 percent to 32 percent among likely voters. 16 percent are likely voters are undecided and the poll is the first major independent and nonpartisan survey of the

if you are headed along in the eastbound direction we have construction there that is blocking off all but two lanes and it could cause a squeeze on lower deck into the east bay. we have a c.h.p. ised high wind advise for the a mass, the business of the drives making it over the pass from tracy to dublin in excess of 40 minutes. another sig-alert, northbound nimitz, at mission boulevard, currently four lanes are currently blocked and 36 miles per hour is the top speed, so, very tough as you make the drive from fremont with a crash that involved an overturned sufficient and motorcycle with spectators causing delays. avoid the area. good morning, everyone, we will look at what is going on with the wind at 24 miles per hour in fairfield and 16 at concord and 12 at sfo and everyone else is less than ten miles per hour. those are going to pick up like they did yesterday afternoon, and i will show you how fast they get by at noon with a the

star wars creator george lucas decided to build the new museum in chicago. he picked chicago for a museum to house the personal art collection and star wars memorabelia. george lucas wanted to build it in san francisco at the presidio but it was rejected by the trust. many in san francisco are starting to blame the trust for dragging out the process for years before eventually rejecting george lucas. the museum will, instead, be built along lake michigan's museum row in chicago. in a statement to abc, san francisco said the presidio trust unwisely rejected the proposal for a site near crissy field which forced george lucas county to look to cities like chicago and put san francisco's chance at landing the museum in jeopardy. sir paul's tour is back on track after he postponed several dates after coming down with a viral infection. the 72-year-old former beatle post add cleary message.
