the view from sky 7 hd made bryant street look like a river. a water main break sent water cascading down hill. took crews on hour to shut it off. we isolateed and a leak and repaired it. a spike shows itself, here >> check this out the pressure was so forceful, it blew out the sidewalk. water got into this warehouse. the fire department says the system was not compromised the city says the pipe may have been leaking for months. >> this pipe had been leaking. there is a project may have contributed to cause the pipe to

start leaking. >> it may, or may not indicate a sort of shoddy work from the current contractor. >> tuesday, sky 7 hd was over another broken water main outside of the avenue. there are aging water pipes in san francisco the city trying to replace 5 to 15 miles per year. san francisco averages 120 water main breaks every >> these pipes are very old. >> this video not only shows a vicious attack on a store clerk but also, a customer standing only feet away as it went down. the customer may have saved the clerk's life. abc7's david louie joins us live with what happened.

this is wild stuff. >> reporter: definitely wild, larry. several people inside of the liquor store when this robbery happened. no gun was used but the robber did lob the clerk with several liquor bottles the clerk was badly beaten. then, the clerk was badly beaten, then, a customer stepped in the man asked and asked for price of bottles behind the counter the clerk turned around, the robber stepped around and began to grab cigarettes and liquor he began throwing bottles at the clerk. the clerk defended himself using a long wood pole more bottles were thrown the robber took down the clerk and started to beat him. notice the man in the red shirt. he is a customer. and he intervened beyond range of the cameras >> he steps in between and the suspect flees the store. >> there is a hero in the story? >> yes.

in this case it made the suspect stop and rethink he fled the scene. >> the man in the red shirt was standing here just feet from where the attack was happening. if you were standing that close, in this situation, what would you do? >> maybe try to grab something and hit the guy? whatever you can do. he would try to help. instinct takes over. but... >> you won't worry about your personal safety? >> probably not. >> the clerk turned down medical treatment. the owner of the liquor store is not responding to requests for interview the sheriff's office is seeking help to identify the suspect in the sharp video. he is described as 58 inches tall, weighing between 160, 180 pounds, black curly hair in a pony ale he has a mustache the sheriff's office doesn't encourage bystanders to intervene. those asked what they'd do they say they'd try to stop an tack >> it's something have you to do. really. >> i have before. >> on your own peril?
