a man walked in and started grabbing liquor and cigarettes. and the man could have been that, as the clerk could have been injured but a bystander stepped in. >> there is no sign the robber is armed with a gun. but he started lobbing liquor bottles at the clerk, turning them into missles the violence escalated when the clerk tried to defend himself. before long, both were on the floor with a robber punching a clerk. several customers witnessed this attack. the video doesn't show, but he stepped in to save the clerk's life. >> he actually steps in between the suspect flees. >> there is a hero in this story? >> yes. in this case it made the suspect stop, and rethink. he fled the scene. >> the clerk turned down treatment and is believed to be okay the liquor store owner hasn't

we want to update a success story toon. a marin county woman helped free thousands of child slaves on the other side of the world >> i told you about her 16 years ago. tonight abc7 news anchor reports that she is not slowing down. these are the happy faces of girls freed from slavery this, video from film maker roy cox documenting the end of a cruel custom in western nepal the sale of young girls as inden toured servants. now, they're starting their own businesses. >> the 89-year-old set the stage

for this victory 30 years ago. olga was a lawyer bshgs to retire, she went on a trek in nepal we ran across many children on the trail. they all wanted to go to school. >> sending them to school became her obsession she founded the nepal youth foundation she started raising money to provide scholarships, homes for abandoned children, nutrition programs. going off to city, working 18 hours per day. >> the rescue effort is led by a man who, years before, had himself received a scholarship from olga. now, he's president of the nepal youth foundation. >> nobody would pay attention to the bus every day. >> they're sold by their parents, poor families, who felt they had no other way to survive. >> the girls would work for a

year, then be sold again for the next year. the foundation came up with a plan, an incentive. if sending their girls to school, instead of work. >> giving each family a baby piglet they can raise it and sell it for as much, or more as they got for their daughter's labor. >> results are phenomenal. 13,000 girls freed from slavery in more than a decade. most girls under school. older ones get vocational training and a fun is helping them start businesses from tailor shops to growing vegetables. >> this is done by a that can be successful, supporting their parents and education. >> the foundation gets contributions from around the world the first donors are all from
