quintana is live where a march is getting underway. reporter: the dyke march will start shortly, and its usually led off by the dykes on bikes, leading a lot of people packed into the park here, out through the streets of san francisco. now, a lot of the organizers are telling me that though it looks quite's here now, it's not as busy as last year but look at the crowd. a whole lot of people are here. organizers estimate more than 30,000 people packed the park as part of the party. they say it looked more crowded because only half of the park is open. the other half is under construction as part of a continuing renovation project. this is the 21st year of this march as part of the annual gay pride celebration weekend in san francisco. and as usual, the dykes on bikes

are leading the progression. >> motorcades are usually men and our police force. here's a different type of support and security for the women who do this march. >> still a lot of work to do as communities, and there's 30,000 people here. if every one of them stood up, spoke up, voted, whatever it is they're doing to be heard, think we can make some pretty serious change together. reporter: now, this is the street. you can see that all the way down there are lots of people, both lanes were actually blocked off because half of dolores park was not available. there's a whole lot of people here. now, this march, as it starts, will make its way through the mission district and through the castro district, and then finally end up over on market street, where a lot of the crowd will join up with the pink party, which will continue on until midnight. reporting live in san francisco, sergio quintana, abc7 news.

a symbol of gay pride was built on twin peaks in san francisco. since 1959 the gay community has constructed a pink triangle on the hillside. gays were forced to wear a pink triangle as a symbol of shame? germany. it is a symbol of pride as much as reminder of the past. >> it gives you a lot of reflection of the past and the future, and tolerance, and this brings nothing but joy to people. tomorrow is the annual pride parade. expect huge traffic backups around market street all day long. police have identified a person of interest in the like -- liquor store robbery attempt on camera. the robber threw liquor bottles and tried to punch the clerk. the clerk went on the offensive with other gardening tool. he had a cut but was not seriously injured. today the san jose police

released this photo of justin johnson, a person of interest, who also has twoout stands warrants for his arrived. >> sales of fireworks began today and bay area fire departments are concerned about the week ahead. the drought has left grass and brush dangerously dry. cornell bernard is live from san bruno this evening. reporter: these fireworks stands will be open through the fourth of july here at the shopping center. they sell state-approved fireworks. that alone has firefighters concerned, but it's the other kind, the illegal type that have police and firefighters so worried. especially during our severe drought. fireworks stand are open for business in san bruno. sales benefit nonprofits. >> fourth of july one of my favorite times. i like the barbecue. it's fun. >> her dad, jason, says fireworks are a big family tradition. but he knows it's dry and dangerous out there. so, he has a plan. >> wet the lawn, put a piece of

wood down and stand there with a hose and light them off, make sure we're safe. >> so really careful there. >> yeah. maybe a little over the top. reporter: the fire chief likes hearing that but knows not everyone is so careful. >> anytime it's uncontrolled and left up to the individual there's always that extra concern because you can't watch everybody. reporter: practice fire patrols will by out looking for violators. private property is the only place you can light fireworks. a letter from the city spells that out to every buyer. >> if i get scared of the roof and the houses. >> linda was worried about fire. she is attending her family reunion where fireworks don't go on sale until july 1 independent but signs are everywhere warning against using illegal fireworks, but linda says it still happens every year. >> once it's nighttime, it's creepy out there. you start seeing all the bottle rockets and it gets pretty loud. >> everybody wants to celebrate on the fourth but signs of the

drought seem to be everywhere. >> in the hills are -- there's no green. that would be my worry, is that a fire starts over there. reporter: abc7 news. >> the hayward fire department held a class today in defensible space training. residents were taught how to clear fuels from around their home in order to stop a fire from accelerating. >> a minute effort, the fire department and the community, can certainly mitigate a large disaster. so it's important for speech every home owner to take personal ownership of their property. that helps us get our job done as well. >> the department will provide a chipping service for residents who do their own fuel removal work. california's drought is affecting boats at folsom lake marina. people who dock their boats have them until tomorrow to take them out. the water level at the lake is

block. >> a woman called the nightmare nanny is out of her employer's house for now. she was hired by a family to watch their kids and do housework in exchange for room and board. after a 2000 weeks she told them she had respiratory problems and couldn't work because it was hard to breathe. the family wanted her to leave but she refused and threatened legal action. the family says she left a day after receiving an evex -- eviction notice. she was spotted last night at a police station.

>> a man and woman who thought they were cousins discovered their were actually siblings and it saved a life. they have the same biological parents but were adopted by different families. frank was raised by his aunt and uncle and family in the l.a. area. the two figured out they were siblings and just in time. this month frank learned he needed a kidney transplant and his sister turn out to be the perfect match. >> 99.6666 -- >> 99.99999%. we'll always -- >> thinking the same thing. >> the same things, and it's just been amazing. it's just been totally unexplainable amazing. >> frank's surgery three days ago was a success. yesterday was frank's 53rd 53rd birdday. the two say their story is divine intervention. >> a new homeless outreach programs rolling through san francisco.

this retrofitted bus is the flagship of the lava me program. it has showers and toilets for homeless people. there are two showers. the bus hooks up to a fire hydrant to get water. they buy the water from the city. donnist got the idea after seeing a homeless woman crying because she would never be clean again. >> this is about restoring dignity and reconnecting people with their humanity. itself you're dirty it's hard to feel like you can be positive about the things in your life and take the steps you might want to take to lift yourself out of your sicks. >> the pilot program runs into the end of the year and hope to have as many as five buses capable of providing 1800 showers a week. up next on abc7 news at 6:00. a look at nasa's test of a unique spacecraft scientists hope will get to us mars. >> on earth, the fourth of july is six days away.

napa succeed -- nasa tested an experimental spacecraft that could help us land on mars. it's a saucer shaped spacecraft with a huge parachute that can in theory deliver heavy equipment and astronauts to mars and places beyond. here's a shot of the project in the sky above hawai'i. its rocket motor carried the saucer 34 miles above the earth where the atmosphere is similar to that of mars. one problem, the parachute didn't fully deploy, but nasa still considered the test a success. >> the new abc singing competition, "rising star" airs tomorrow night. the show makes you the judge with the rising star app. download through itune or

concord, livermore, lower to mid-80s. things will get hot inland starting tomorrow. here's a look at the current wind conditions. 33 miles-per-hour gusts at sfo so quite breezy there. 21 at half moon bay. 13 miles-per-hour in concord, and then we're going to start to see a bit of an offshore. the ridge of high pressure that is actually going to bring our temperatures way, way up, and talking about average temperatures, we're looking at above average on monday. so 100 degrees we could see. those temperatures will slowly go down, and be back to normal seasonal for the duration of the week, with a warmup for the weekend. here's san jose. expect to see the lower to mid-90s by monday, and then temperatures dip down a little bit there, starting on thursday, right through friday. and this is why we have this ridge of hi pressure coming in. we started off on the cooler side this morning and then the rim is developing off the coast. that's going to bring temperatures up for tomorrow and

into the early part of next week. so for the work week, you might want to leave the sweaters and jackets. tomorrow we can expect to see warmer temperatures. the san francisco pride parade begins at 10:30 at market and beale, and you'll start at 66 degrees there. 1:00 p.m., 72 under sunny skies, victim uv index as well so bring the sun screen. high for tomorrow, by the coast, still going to be a little cooler. 63, the coastal breeze will keep the temperatures on the low side. 80, san rafael, 68, san francisco, 80 our high for vallejo. 88 in antioch, 85, morgan hill. san jose, 76. the overnight lows with the fog coming back, cools down a bit. 54 in san mateo. 57 in con considered, 63 in antioch. a looking at the seven-day forecast, expect nice summer conditions for tomorrow, and into monday.
