lurch breaking news, a high-speed chase across part of contra costa county ends in a shooting. a suspect hit and wounded. tonight police are still on the scene. good evening and thank you for joining us. abc 7 news reporter is live in martinez with the latest, lisa? >> reporter: this is a very active scene and it's developing right before my eyes. take a look behind me. you can see a very large police presence here near martinez and highway 4 in 680, the closest we're allow the to be to the shooting scene. it's a block away at falling star road. this happened around 9:45 tonight. there was a high-speed chase through east contra costa county and it ended with shots being

fired and i believe one person was injured, taken to the hospital. it is not clear who fired those shots. we are getting some reports that it may have been involving a police officer. we're getting other reports that it may have involved a juvenile of some kind. it also does appear -- the police appear to have one person in custody. right now we're still trying to find out more information. the martinez police department, the sheriff's department, the chp, they are all here and there are several blocks of this street that are closed. you should definitely trying to avoid this area. again, there's been a shooting here and we are in eastern contra costa county. very close to martinez, not quite in the city limits. we'll bring you the latest on twitter and later here on abc 7 news. new at 11:00, a man was shot in front of a san francisco subway restaurant early this evening, market and mason streets, around 7:00. the victim was taken to san francisco general and is

expected to survive. it is gay pride weekend. across the nation and the world, communities are celebrating. from latin america to middle america, there are parties, parades, and protests. here in the bay area, pride also includes fund-raising along with fun. abc 7 is live with that story. >> reporter: rate now the pink party in the castro district is just barely starting to wrap up. i want to show you right now how this is all unfolding. there's a line of security guards and lots of police officers. they're trying to have an orderly departure of this party. the organizers and police say included more than 100,000 people this year. >> everybody say sexy! one, two, three! >> this is my favorite right here action i love it. it's a celebration, i've never been a part of that in my life. >> reporter: for others a chance to be with friends and celebrate

diversity. >> i love my best friend and she's gay, why not celebrate the fact that she's gay? >> reporter: this year's crowd is similar to last year's when there was a major turnout because of decisions in the u.s. supreme court over same-sex marriage. just before the dyke march this afternoon we saw a couple exchanging vows in the middle of a sea of people. court cases in other states are expanding rights. >> we're seeing marriage being made legal across the country. we are making great advances. >> reporter: the pink party is put on every year by the sisters of perpetual indulgence. many in the group just returned from a historic visit to gay pride in shanghai, china. >> they look to us because of our experience and knowledge with lgbt history and activism and fund-raising. all things that are relatively new to that community. >> reporter: it was shanghai's sixth gay pride celebration, and this video is part of a planned documentary on the history and activism of the sisters of perpetual indulgence. this is the 44th celebration of

lgbt pride in san francisco and it continues tomorrow. the pride parade begins tomorrow morning at 10:30 at beale and market street and ends at 7ic center plaza. drivers avoid the area, there will be a number of street closures. bart is running longer trains. muni lines will be rerouted to mission street. the pink triangle went up on san francisco's twin peaks. since 1995 it's made an annual appearance during pride weekend. the pink triangle has been adopted by the gay community as a symbol of pride and letterance. it is now time to turn our attention to weather. outside from the exploratorium camera, a warmup is on the way for the parade tomorrow. a first check on weather and my doppler 7 hd. >> if you thought today was gorgeous, tomorrow will be more beautiful and clear with warming temperatures. a look from our towercam, the

bay lights, gorgeous. a beautiful night indeed. it's going to turn a little warmer starting tomorrow. we'll start with a little bit of fog to hug the coast there. a look towards the transamerica pyramid and the financial district in san francisco. current temperatures 58. we're at 60 in oakland. 63 in san carlo. 65 in morgan hill. 57 at half moon bay. our highs for tomorrow, we'll be seeing almost 90 degrees inland. still staying a little bit cooler along the coast. your full accuweather seven-day forecast coming up. developing news out of arizona where firefighters are getting the upper hand on a fire burning since thursday. lighter winds are helping crews make progress against the 5,000-acre fire near the new mexico border. nearly 100 structures are threatened. firefighters in cotati say a gas line break and explosions helped fuel a fire this afternoon. fire started in the home's garage causing acetylene tanks to explode.

a gas line ruptured and crews had to wait for pg&e to shut off the gas. everyone was able to get out safely. today is the start of a nervous week for firefighters. firework stands open today in some bay area cities. san bruno firefighters handed out a letter from the city explaining the rules to people. the rules dar signed to prevent injuries and fires. fireworks can only be used on private property in san bruno to make sure people are following the rules firefighters will make extra patrols on july 4th. >> if it's uncontrolled and left up to the individual, there's always that extra concern, you can't watch everybody. >> i was driving by yesterday and the hills -- there's no green. that would be my worry is that a fire starts over there. >> the hayward fire department taught people living in the hayward hills and fairview areas how to clear tall grass and brush from their homes, robbing potential fire of fuel. safe and sane fireworks are legal in sa bass toe roll, petaluma, dublin, pacific character san bruno, union city,

newark, gilroy. sales began in most of these cities today. you can only set fire, woulds off in the city where you bought them. a head-on collision killed a woman and baby in concord at the kenny bridge 87 crossing last night. investigators say it appears an suv and a large sedan crashed head-on. five other people suffered serious injuries but they are expected to survive. there's been a huge pot bust in lake county. on tuesday and wednesday this week the lake county sheriff's narcotics task force found and destroyed more than 38,000 marijuana plants. the sheriff's department sent us these pictures. the plants were growing in corn field fields and on vacant lots. police in napa are down a patrol car after a man under arrest tried to escape. a man was handcuffed in the back of this patrol car. he had been arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. officers say he somehow got his hands in front of his body and forced his way into the driver's seat. the cruiser ended up on these

poles after the man drove through a garage door. the man now faces four additional and more serious charges. the family of a gilroy woman missing for six days is offering a $5,000 reward to help find her. 49-year-old noemi covall was seen leaving her her sister's home on foot sunday. she's described as hispanic, 55 ffrk, 150 pounds, wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, jacket, capri pants, and light blue shoes. it is official. the gloves can come off in california restaurants. today governor jerry brown signed a measure repealing the requirement forcing employees to use gloves or utensils when handling food. the original bill was intended to prevent disease but chefs complained it was too restrictive and generated unnecessary waste. on tuesday the state's minimum wage will increase for the first time since 2008. it goes up $1 to $9 an hour. this increase comes as president

wrap and game schedule. the world cup has us glued to soccer on tv. but power soccer is inspiring people here in the bay area. all the athletes are in powered wheelchairs. lisa amin gulezian met up with a bay area team that just returned home after winning the national championship. >> reporter: it's not a sport for the slow or weak. >> in between, in between. >> reporter: this is power soccer. it's a four on four sport played just like traditional soccer, except these athletes are in wheelchairs. the bay area outreach and rec program, baorp, play hard. they practice every week in berkeley and the team recently won the national championship in indianapolis. >> we trained really hard to win at national. we deserve it. >> reporter: stanley kwon scored 13 goals that day. the confidence stanley displays

now hasn't always been there. before power soccer, he was a different person. >> it's life-changing. like ever since i started playing. gained a lot of the confidence, leadership skills. >> reporter: a range of disabilities are present on this court. but once the ball is down and the game starts, the symptoms seem to disappear. all that exists is the game. the one pushing them toward success is head coach chris finn, who not only led the crushers to a national win, but also took the u.s. national power soccer team to the top during the power chair world cup in brazil last month. finn admits this sport also changed his life. >> i played soccer as a little kid and thought to myself, wow. i can play a sport again, after my -- i suffered my disability. >> reporter: finn became a quadriplegic after a fall 20 years ago and now he lives and breathes soccer. and he's passing on that passion one goal and one win at a time

ended in a shooting. a suspect hit and wounded. tonight police are still on the scene. abc 7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian joins us live with an update. >> reporter: we are here in contra costa county on pacheco boulevard, an active scene behind me. take a look, the focus is on that pickup truck. it's at the center of this investigation. it was driven by the suspect. sources tell me a high-speed chase is what started this whole thing around 9:30 tonight. chp officers chased the suspect along highway 4 in pittsburg. the suspect had a young man under 18 in the truck with him. at one point the suspect suddenly stopped, let the boy out of the truck, then took off again. the chase continued onto this boulevard where the suspect rammed into chp officers and police officer cars and the chp fired at the suspect. the suspect has been taken to john muir hospital and is believed to be okay. back live now, the boy is being

questioned by the sheriff's department at this hour. he too is expected to be in fine condition. tonight's other headlines, the woman and baby killed and five others injured in a head-on crash in concord late last night on willow pass road. the accident involved an suv and a large sedan. a house fire in cotati was made worse when a gas line and tanks ruptured. the fire started in the garage. two tanks full of a gas used for welding exploded. everyone was able to get out safely. right now police are trying to dispercent thousands of people who have gathered to celebrate the first day of pride weekend in san francisco. more than 1 million people are expected at tomorrow's parade which runs from beale and market to civic center plaza. president obama is seeking more than $2 billion to respond to the flood of immigrants illegally crossing the u.s./mexico border.

he's also asking for new powers to help immigrant children traveling without their parents. abc news reporter michelle franzen has the latest. >> reporter: the drive to avoid a humanitarian crisis and help tens of thousands of immigrant children along the mexican border is gathering steam. >> we can't help all, but we can help some. >> reporter: dallas county judge clay jenkins on saturday promising that dallas is stepping up and offering temporary housing for 2,000 of the central american children caught coming to texas without parents. >> we're going to take these children from chain link enclosures and put them in compassionate care. >> reporter: over 50,000 children have swept over the southern border since october. federal law says the children must be transferred to the custody of the health and human services department within 72 hours after their arrest for illegally crossing the border. and then placed with families until a hearing in immigration court. but the wave of children has

a 64-year-old nanny sleeping in her car, shielding herself from tv cameras. all while the family she once lived with anxiously waits to see if she will return to their upland, california, house where her belongings remain behind this bedroom door. >> if i want to see this room, you won't let me inside? >> we can't let you inside. this is now, by court, by law, this is her domain. >> reporter: the family feel like prisoners in their own home. they fired their danny diane stratton three weeks ago but stratton refuses to go. >> you feel so helpless. you feel victimized. >> reporter: they hired her in march after she answered this craigslist ad seeking a nanny to care for three kids in exchange for room and board. the family says she was great at first but then complained of health problems and simply lock the herself in her room all day. so now the family has put a bike lock on the refrigerator. >> i do it tight so she can't

fremont, palo alto, north bay, and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. engineers at stanford are hoping an emerging technology could someday be used to treat diseases in an entirely different way. the breakthrough started with the challenge of miniaturizing a small device. shrinking a pacemaker to the size of a pill is quite the accomplishment. but for stanford professor ada, it's part of a bigger plan to

fight disease by changing the way we think about electricity. >> we're coming up with a new way to wirelessly power a tiny medical device that could be placed very deep inside the body. >> reporter: to charge those tiny devices without batteries, the stanford team began experimenting with a new way to project electricity safely into the human body. the system they came up with employs electromagnetic waves similar to those used to power an electric toothbrush. research are john ho says once the waves enter the body they begin a natural acceleration. >> the simple fact that the properties of waves change as they move from one type of material into another. these waves are converted into propagating waves and they travel much farther than they would otherwise. >> reporter: several inches into the body, in fact. deep enough to reach the miniaturized pacemaker and power it. >> we've demonstrated that we can blend the safety of the new field with the far field.
