live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> good morning. happy sunday. i'm cornell barnard in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. we have no fog to speak up. temperatures mild everywhere. mainly in the 60s around the bay. 66 san jose. morgan hill waking up to the mid-60s with san francisco 58 and san jose plenty of sunshine. we have no 70s from fairfield. concord at 70 right now. and santa rosa 68 degrees. so if you head on out, temperatures in the 60s and 70 he is. bay side and inland by noontime. 70 around the bay.

60s at the coast. we will see plenty of sunshine at the beaches but numbers climbing through the mid-90sed to inland. we will look for temperatures to climb around 80 around the bay. we will talk about warmer weather in a few minutes. cornell. >> thank you very much. developing news out of antioch where a man is dead after being hit by a car. it happened after 2:00 this morning on westbound highway 4 near oath street. a pedestrian was hit. he was pronounced dead at the scene. highway 4 was shut down for a short time while police investigated. no word on what led up to the accident. developing news out 6 antioch where investigators are investigating a shooting. responding officers found five people at the scene that had been shot. two others showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds. none of of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. no word on the arrests there. developing news east bay where a custody is in custody after a high-speed chase that ended in a police shooting.

someone led officers on a chase along highway 4 in pittsburgh. at one point the suspect stopped. a boy under 18 came out of the truck. he then ran his vehicle into police cars, causing officers to open fire outside of martinez. the suspect was taken to the medical center and is expected to be okay. the chase and the shooting are under investigation. in concord one person in critical condition after driving a car off a freeing. it happened just before midnight on highway 4 at the solano way exit. no word on the person driving the car or what caused the accident. in san francisco police are investigating a shooting in front of a subway accident last night. he was shot at market and mason street around 7:00. he was taken to san francisco general and is expected to survive. it is gay pride weekend. it also included fundraising. sergio quintana has more. >> for some, this is all new.

>> i love it. this is my first time here. it is celebrated -- i've never been to a party like that in my life. >> and for others it's a chance to be with friends and celebrate diversity. >> i love my best friend and she's gay, so why in the -- not celebrate with her? >> this year's crowd similar to last year when there was a major turnout because of decisions in the u.s. supreme court over same-sex marriage. ♪ >> before the march we saw a couple exchanging vows in the middle of a sea of people. now court cases in other states are expanding those rights. >> we are seeing marriage being made legal across the country. we are really making great advances. >> the pink party is put on every year by the sisters of perpetual indulgence. many in the group returned from a historic visit to gay pride in china. >> they look to us because of our experience and knowledge with lgbt history and activism and fundraising.

all things that are relatively new to that community. it was shanghai's sixth pride celebration. and the documentary is on the sisters of perpetualism indulgence. abc7 news. the parade begins this morning at 10:30 at beale and market. ends the civic center plaza. drivers might want to avoid the area because there will be a number of street closers and a lot of people. bart is running longer trains today. muni lines on market will be rerouted to mission street. >> and the pink triangle went up. that was yesterday morning on twin peaks. since 1985 it has made an annual appearance. it has been adopted by the gay community as a symbol of pride and remembrance.

>> there's been a huge pot bust in bay county. on tuesday and wednesday of last week the narcotics task force found and destroyed more than 38,000 marijuana plants. the sheriff's department sent us these pictures. the plants were growing in corn fields and vacant lots. a man under arrest tried to escape. the man was handcuffed in the back of this patrol car yesterday morning. he had been arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. officers say he somehow got his hands in front of his body and forced his way into the driver's seat. the cruiser ended up on the poles affeldt police say the man drove through a garage door. the man now faces four additional and a lot more serious charges. >> firefighters say a gas line break and two explosions helped fuel a house fire yesterday. the fire started in a home's garage, starting some acetylene tanks to explode. as the fire spread, the cruz had to back off and wait for pg&e to shut off the gas. everyone was able to get out

safely. >> it's a very nervous week for firefighters. fireworks stands opened yesterday in some cities. san bruno, firefighters handed out a letter from the city explaining the rules. they are designed to prevent injury and fires. fireworks can only be used on private property in san bruno. to make sure people are following the rules, firefighters will have extra patrols out on july 4th. >> it's uncontrolled and its left up to the individual, there's always the extra concern. you can't watch everybody. >> i was driving by yesterday and the hills -- there's no green. that would be my worry that a fire starts over there. >> the hayward fire department taught people living in the fairview and hayward woods and area how to clear at all grass and brush from their homes to reduce the fire danger there. take a look. fireworks are legal had these communities. sales began yesterday in most of the cities but you can only set the fireworks off in the city where you bought them. it's official today, the gloves can come off in california restaurants.

yesterday jerry brown repealed a law requiring them to using gloves or utensils when handling food. the original bill was intended to prevent squeeze, but chefs complained it was too restrictive and required unnecessary waste. >> on tuesday state's minimum wage will increase for the first time since 2008. it goes up one dollar to nine dollars an hour. in a radio address yesterday, they said it will help working class and middle class families. >> this moderate increase will help put more money in the pockets of hard works californians. spending for a a much-needed boost to the economy. >> it comes at president obama and other democrats push to increase the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. good news for a lot of people. a lot of people heading into the city for the pride parade. it starts about an hour and a half here. >> 61 now, 65 at the airport.

looking at the statement. >> it says cash back earned. it doesn't say maybe earned. that's when i e-mailed a note to michael finney to say what happens to this money? >> we posed that money to citibank. it didn't say where leftover rewards end up, telling us the terms and conditions specify that an automatic redemption will occur when a minimum of $50 has been earned. and that checks cannot be issued for less than $50. pat isn't planning to spend $5,000 to get her $50 back but she's still happy with her bank mostly. >> i earned it. why won't they give it to me? >> the lesson, read the cardholder agreement before you sign up for a rewards card. many banks require you to spend a certain amount before you can collect. others give you cash back as you earn it. be sure to read the tiny print. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side.

yesterday's world cup match between brazil and chile totally blew up on twitter. twitter reported 16.4 million tweets during the course of the game. the most sent in any match in world cup history. bay area. powered soccer is played by people in wheelchairs. lisa met up with a bay area team that just returned home after winning the national championship. >> reporter: it's not a sport for the slow or weak. this is power soccer. it's a four-on-four sport played just like traditional soccer, except these athletes are in wheelchairs. the bay area rec program, the crushers, train hard. the work recently paid off. they recently won the national championship in indianapolis. >> we trained really hard to win the national; and we deserve it. >> stanley scored 13 goals that day. but the confidence stanley displays now hasn't always been there. before power soccer, he was a different person. >> it's life-changing. ever since i started playing, i gained a lot of confidence, leadership skills. >> a range of disabilities are present on this court. but once the ball is down and

the game starts, the symptoms seem to disappear and all that exists is the game. the one pushing them toward success is head coach chris finn. he not only led them to a national win, but put the national u.s. power soccer team to the top during the world cup in brazil. he admits this sport also changed his life. >> i played soccer as a little kid and thought to myself, wow, i can play a sport again after i suffered my disability. >> he became a quadriplegic after a fall 20 years ago and now he lives and breathes soccer. he is passing on that passion one goal and one win at a time to his players on wheels. in berkeley, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. happening today, officials at levi stadium in santa clara will practice what it's like to have an actual event at the venue. this is only a drill, though. officials will close streets,

set up barricades and test traffic systems. it's a dry run in preparation for the stadium's first event in august, an m.l.s. match between the earthquakes and the sounders. the 49ers are scheduled to play their first preseason home game at the stadium on august 17th. hard to believe it's here already. a beautiful day today. the pride parade coming up in a short time. giants game at 1:00. what can people expect in. >> it will be warm out there. you are probably feeling the difference already. we are looking at temperatures responding well into the 60s and 70s in most location. the doppler is not detecting any fog. it will stay that way. some warm nights ahead as well. that's always a bonus with the heats. but the downside the high fire danger. a lot of people probably want to head to the beach today. in santa cruz temperatures approaching 80 degrees and a light southwest wind later

today. 66 in san jose as well as morgan hill. half moon bay still nice and cool at 67. 61 in san francisco. oakland checking in at 62. you can see no wind here on the embarcadero. 68 in santa rosa. it warmed up quickly. 73 fairfield, 70 concord. and we are looking at livermore at 67 degrees. pleasant, 70s and 80s around the bay. that changes. 80s and 90s. already we are anywhere 2 to to 6 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. the on for winds of backing off. upper elevation northerly winds and the sea breeze but just at the coast. you will really have to be at the coast tomorrow for sure. today 10 to 20 miles an hour we will look for a warm to hot day today with peak heat arriving tomorrow and minor cooling inward tuesday. wednesday more cooling and we will talk about 4th of july when we get to the extend outlook. a quick warmup today and we are

looking at high pressure building into the eastern pacific. as that does, the entire state will be looking very, very dry. so no relative humidity, high fire danger. at least the winds won't be gusty but we are looking at temperatures above normal for that 70's. i think this is kind of conservative. we will say mid-90s on tuesday with temperatures above normal for the rest of the week. and the 4th of july just looking at patchy coastal fog. if you are already in the city you know how nice it is. throughout the afternoon numbers will continue to climb. but low 70s, 3:00, 4:00, and a light sea breeze, keeping temperatures into the 60s by 7:00 this afternoon. high temperatures in the south bay in the 80s today. some 90s for morgan hill and gilroy. peninsula numbers mid-80s palo alto, morgan hill. 67 pacifica. 78 in south city and in the

>> new this morning. a cruise ship carrying more than 3,000 people forced to turn around from it's start out from a port in seattle following a fire onboard a cruise ship. holland america said there were no injuries. the company said the small fire broke out in one of the ship's boiler rooms and was quickly extinguished. the ship is operational and they expect it to leave again once inspections are complete. it was beginning a seven-day alaska cruise when the fire happened. new details on the saga of a live-in nanny who wouldn't help and wouldn't leave. she was fired. a new twist in the story. >> after spending several nights sleeping in her grand a.m., the 64-year-old dubbed the nanny from hell seems ready to throw in the towel. three weeks after the family fired her and begged her to leave. >> late saturday night diane

police have identified a person of interest in a liquor store robbery attack caught on camera nearly two weeks ago. take a look. it shows him throwing liquor bottles and trying to punch the clerk at tip top liquors in san jose. the clerk did not back down and went on the offensive with a gardening tool. he was he had a cut but was not seriously injured. the police released this photo. justin johnson, 25, is a person of interest. he has two outstanding warrants for his arrest. happening today, several almeda county law enforcement agencies and emergency responders will be participating in a training exercise in san leandro. the exercise will focus on a response to an active shooting incident and will be based on data from similar incidents nationwide. sheriff's department, paramedics and firefighters from various cities will participate. it will be held at the bay fair center on 14th street at 6:00

tonight. n.a.s.a. has succeeded testing a spacecraft that could be used on mars. it is saucer-shaped with a parachute. it can, in theory deliver heavy equipment and astronauts to mars and places beyond. it was tested 34 miles above the earth, where the atmosphere is similar to mars. there was one problem. the parachute did not fully deploy, but n.a.s.a. still considers it a success. >> coming up, food can be a piece of art. really? especially in the hands of a former tech person. take a look at our golden state bridge cam. look at the beautiful picture. a big day in san francisco. the pride parade starting in less than an hour, a giants game at 1:00. lisa is back with the forecast in just a few minutes.

>> covering novato, oakland, sunnyvale and all the bay area. this is abc7 news. >> good morning. we are back with a view from our east bay hills cam. looking toward san francisco. it's going to be a big day in the city. the pride parade starting in less than an hour, giants game, as welling. it will be beautiful, but it will be hot in the east bay and a danger of fire. lisa will tell us about that coming up in a few minutes. a new homeless program is rolling around the streets of san francisco. this retrofitted muni bus is a flagship of a program that has showers and toilets for homeless people on board. the bus hooks up to a fire hydrant to get water. they buy the water from the city. a woman got the idea after she saw a homeless woman crying that she would never be clean again. >> it's about restoring dignity

and reconnecting people with their humanity. if you are dirty, it's hard to feel positive about your life and take the steps you might want to take to lift yourself out of your circumstances. >> the pilot program will run until then of the year. they hope to have as many as five buses capable of providing 1800 showers a week. doing good work there. a beautiful day in the bay area. it will be hot in the east bay, though. >> that's right. we are looking at plenty of 90s there. but at the beach we will see some 60s and even near 70 in some spots. how about santa cruz where the high will be near 80. right now 63. look at all the sun. we will talk about when the sun returns and how warm it's going to get in a few minutes. >> lisa, thank you. also next, in need of a win. the giants rally in the bottom of the ninth against the reds to force extra innings. could they pull off the game? mike shumann has the highlights coming up next in sports.

>> welcome back. a handful of retailers will be ready to sell the supplies, including one in all of seattle where marijuana will become legal. the state is working to set up more labs to certified growers. it could take a lot of time. marijuana will be available. it's going to be pricey. at one shop it starts out at nine dollars a gram. then you add on a 25% retail tax, state taxes, local taxes, and the retailers markup.

this week a new exhibit is open in the bay area, and it may change the way you think about food, from fruit to pasta. it's about the art and science of cooking. david louie has the story from san jose tech museum. >> you may think this is modern art, but it's a photo of the round worm. its in pork. not appetizing once you realize what it is. it's a collection of nearly 80 large photos on display at the tech museum, exploring the science and technology of food and cooking. it's a brainchild of nathan, microsoft's former chief technology officer. his passion for food led him to go to work in a restaurant and go to cooking school in france. and to embrace a new approach to picturing food. listen to his excitement over what he calls an exploded diagram of a burger. >> not only is it cool looking, it shows you how to assemble it. shows you all the layers clearly and distinctly. once you squish it into the burger, you can't see the layers or how it is made. >> he cuts apart ovens, pots and pans and even bbq grills to show you how it cooks. >> with those photos, it's easier to say, yeah, i understand what happens in my boiler when i boil something. i understand when i roast a turkey. >> the photographs became part of a 2500 page multi-volume book called "modernist cuisine."

he uses the photo of a pork leg to explain why some animals have both dark and white meat. they have extra cells for walking. they store extra cells for tasks such as walking. >> typically the legs are the dark meat with the endurance muscles. and the wings, white meat, doesn't have to run for a long period of time, a short burst of energy. >> the photo exist aims at demystifying how food cooks but does it take away the magic of culinary arts? >> the more you know about food and how beautiful it is. i'm not sure. i'm not sure it's possible to take the magic out of food. in san jose, abc7 news. >> i just delayed eating my breakfast. a lot of information there. and that show runs through september 1st, by the way. going to be beautiful in the city. very hot in the east bay. >> yeah.

we like a little heat for the summer so we have that on order today and tomorrow. as you look at live doppler 7 you see there's fog. and the warmth is headed our way. in fact, for the next couple days things are going to be awfully toasty in parts of the east bay valleys and the inner valleys. at the beach it will be nice. san jose temperatures are well into the 60s. 66 with morgan hill at 70. half moon bay a comfortable 59 degrees. yeah, you will probably need a sweatshirt if you are headed to the coast. although if you are up in the north bay, point reyes, that will even warm into the 60s. here is lake tahoe where it will be a beautiful day. 80s here. and into the upper 80s in the days ahead. 68 santa rosa, 73 fairfield. novato up to 72. the north winds really affecting the temperatures north of the golden gate where you can really feel the warmth. everyone warms up five to ten degrees today. this is how warm we are now

compared to yesterday. 2 to 6 degrees warmer. even on the coast a couple degrees warmer. we will have that onshore flow. it will be limit today just a couple miles from the beach. then by tomorrow you have to be right at the coast to really experience any cooling because it's going to be very little wind. just the heat generated in the inland valleys will initiate the sea breeze in the afternoon. warm to hot today. near 100-degree heat tomorrow. this is why. high pressure gets closer and builds in. we get a bit of a wind shift and as we warm up quickly today, we realize the numbers are above average. then by tomorrow getting pretty impressive with high fire danger. the good thing is we aren't going to have the offshore wind gusts. we are still going to have northerly winds that will be a bit offshore in the hills, but they won't be gusty but you know how dry it is and you know the drills. be careful. 101 in sacramento, as well as chico. 103 fresno and we will get relief in the until the end forecast week here but then we

will heat up again by the long holiday weekend. we aren't looking at much in the way of a cool-down for you in the east bay valleys. in fact today in alameda check out the 3:00 temperature. 91 degrees. 82 by 7:00. so we do have plenty of 60s in store for the coast from point reyes through half moon bay and pacifica. 72 san francisco. upper 70s san mateo. 87 in san jose with 93 in concord. so if you are headed to at&t park today, lots of blue sky and temperatures are getting kind of warm around at&t park. maybe that will switch things up. upper 60s. and 714:00 in the afternoon. we will look at highs tomorrow, another 5 degrees of warming inland. partly cooler tuesday and wednesday we will get into more cooling but keep it there by thursday. 4th of july and into the long weekend. a pretty nice looking extended forecast. >> there is the risk of fire reports in the east bay and that will continue for a few days.
