temperatures heat up and trouble begins. power outages in the south bay and calls for help in the east bay. and it's cooling down right now. but it's going to get even hotter this week. good evening. and thank you for joining us. we have team coverage tonight. tiffany wilson has a look at the problems around the bay from the rising temperatures. but we begin with meteorologist. >> summer really kicked in today. we had hot temperatures inland. let me show you doppler 7 hd. we're starting to see a little bit of fog near half moon bay. as a matter of fact, it's going

to be mainly clear. hot conditions inland. 98 fair field. up to 96 in concord. 73, san francisco. 91, redwood city. santa cruz, up to 85. half moon bay, a comfortable 66 degrees today, thanks to the sea breeze. we're going to turn up the heat tomorrow. and you're going to see toasty temperatures around here. >> thank you. triple digit heat led to problems around the bay area. tiffany wilson is live at the alameda county fair where dozens were treated for heat exhaustion. >> reporter: five of those had to be taken to the hospital earlier today. right now, it's very comfortable. the alameda county fire department gave more than 1,500 of the hand fans helping people to stay cool.

but many people said it was tough. >> it should be illegal to keep this hot. >> reporter: not even a cooler of water could keep her family cool. >> we were beyond sweaty. >> reporter: the weather wasn't just uncomfortable, it affected their health. some walked up to the first aid tent. others needed assistance. >> we've had five patients who were transported to local hospitals. >> the symptoms that i notice are headache, feeling light-headed. feeling like you're going to pass out. nauseated. >> reporter: many families in morgan hill had no way to escape the heat, after a power outage eliminated air conditioning and electricity. >> we were watching the giants game. and we heard this really loud explosion. >> reporter: that's when this grate shot up out of the sidewalk. >> my mom's car was parked right there. and debris flew up to the hood of the car. we had to move the car out of the way.

>> reporter: it took pg&e four hours to restore service. >> it got hot so quickly. >> reporter: at my pizza, employees felt like they were baking in the oven. >> it was about 95 in here. >> reporter: tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. the fair is closed. but alameda county firefighters say, if you're outside, wear sunscreen and seek shade. at the alameda county fair. >> keep track of the temperatures in your neighborhood using the abc 7 weather app. thousands of people lined up to see the 44th gay pride parade in san francisco today. more than 100,000 people showed up on the route, between market and field civic center. and proud and prominent were big corporations. tim cook greeted 4,000 of his

employees. facebook had a large contingent there as did bank of america. once the parade wrapped up, the problems began. we go live to san francisco with that part of the story. >> reporter: this is the 44th celebration of gay pride in san francisco. and unfortunately, the celebrations ended in gunfire. witnesses describe a rush of people running for cover as a series of shots were fired. >> i heard gunshots so loud, the people running and hiding in the corner, that's it. just tried to get away from it. >> reporter: you heard the shots? >> yes. >> reporter: how many? >> about seven consecutive shots. >> reporter: according to police, one woman was shot outside the warfield theater. they have arrested one person. but we saw three people in custody. we watched as police located a number of bullet holes on the side of one building.

and police questioned a witness. the white car belongs to darius king. who is in the car? >> a friend of mine. he's part of the show. >> reporter: this shooting happened as thousands left the annual gay pride celebration at civic center. people packed into the area for a massive party. the shooting is a violent end to an otherwise festive day. >> i guess people aren't on the same page of what the event is supposed to be or stand for. >> reporter: there was a separate shooting incident reported around the same time frame up at golden gate and hyde. police say there was an arrest in that second incident. reporting live in san francisco. a mountain view woman is under arrest after police say she assaulted one caltrain employee. look at this scene at the san

antonio stop in mountain view. the confrontation started on the train and moved to the platform. san mateo sheriff deputies say conductors were trying to get a woman who appeared drunk off the train around 9:30 last night. the woman is hitting conductors with what appears to be a backpack or something. the male conductor pushes her and she falls on to the sidewalk. the suspect was arrested for felony assault. san mateo county sheriff's office tweeted, asking anyone with information come forward. a woman replied with a link to this video. police are looking for a gunman involved in a shooting that injured seven people in antioch. it happened just before midnight on cedar point way. police found five injured men on the scene. all seven victims are expected to survive. newark city leaders will meet this week to consider taking steps to force a motel to close. the easy 8 motel is a magnet for

crime. there were 760 arrest there's from 2009 to 2012. this is video from 2012 when a teenage girl was found dead in the parking lot. the motel's owners say it's safe. and they're trying to work out a deal with the city to stay open. insurgents have declared an islamic state across parts of northern syria and neighboring iraq. i.s.i.s. made an announcement posted online. the u.s. has rushed 75 held fire missiles to the iraqi government. iraq ran out of missiles when trying to reclaim tikrit. jeffrey edward fell and another american are accused of carrying out hostile acts against the country of north korea. they were arrested as tourists earlier this year.

the u.s. does not maintain diplomatic ties with north korea. listen to this. a flight from chicago to orange county had to make an emergency landing in wichita tonight. an emergency slide deployed while the flight was in midair. a passenger, former university of nebraska quarterback, taylor martinez, inflated and crammed into the galley. another passenger reported hearing a pop and a hiss before the slide inflated. a passenger tweeted this picture of firefighters onboard the plane. nobody was hurt. but passengers will have to spend the night in wichita. turning to the world cup. a late goal led to a big win for the netherlands today against mexico. we'll have the highlights coming up in sports. but the win led to a major p.r. blunder for dutch airline klm. the company tweeted a photo with the caption, adios amigos after

a drill is under way at the bay fair mall in san le andro. first responders began with a shooting involving a bus in the parking lot. the element of surprise will play a big role in tonight's exercise. >> the only people who know what the scenario or scenarios will be tonight are those who planned it, who are not directly related to the scenario. all of the responding police personnel, fire personnel and any other first responders, including the paramedics, have no knowledge of what they're walking into. >> one officer even perched

himself atop our newsstand to survey the scene. the drill is expected to last until about 3:00 a.m. transit officials and police practiced their game plan today for when the stadium opens. the stadium opens august 2nd, when the san jose earthquake host a soccer match. a freeway closure in san francisco lasts through the fourth of july weekend. 280 will shut down between 101 and king street. the closure starts wednesday at 9:00 p.m. workers will replace a bridge hinge like they did on southbound 280 over memorial day weekend. if you park in san francisco, today was the last sunday you had to feed the meter. free sunday parking returns next week. the free parking came back after complaints for having to pay for spaces that had been free for decades.

celebrations are set for tomorrow to mark an important milestone at yosemite national park. it will mark the first step of a project that will make the maricopa grove make it was in 1864. the grant, which protected yosemite's sequoia's was the first of its kind. >> it truly is the beginning of the national park movement. significant not only for the park, but for california, for the nation, and for the world. >> the mariposa grove is expected to be completed by august 2016, the 100th anniversary of the national park service. you don't have to drive for hours to check out some of yosemite's history. this exhibit at the memorial museum opened today. the exhibit shows the people

good evening. tonight's headlines, people ran for cover when shots were fired as thousands left the annual gay pride parade in san francisco. one woman was shot. her injuries are not life-threatening. a mountain view woman is under arrest after police say she assaulted two caltrain employees last night. the incident was captured on video and posted on instagram. the suspect was arrested for felony assault. a drill is under at the fayefair mall in san leandro. the drill is expected to last until about 3:00 a.m. and heat will settle in tomorrow.

public health officials are telling people to be sure to drink plenty of water and stay in the shade if possible. president obama's affordable health care law will be put to the test tomorrow when the supreme court issues a ruling in the hobby lobby case. at issue, whether for-profit companies can deny contraception coverage because of religious beliefs. >> reporter: at the center of the case, the oklahoma-based arts and crafts chain, hobby lobby. it's owned by the green family, who says obamacare's mandate, that they provide birth control, violates their religious right. >> we believe that americans don't lose religious freedom when they open a family business. >> reporter: hobby lobby has over 500 stores with 15,000 employees. the owners object to four types of contraceptions. verses of the morning-after pill and iuds.

peninsula. thieves are entering through opened windows, garages and unlocked doors. business is booming for security companies. no longer the homeowners just want alarm systems. they want more sophisticated setups to protect their homes and their families. vic lee has the story. >> reporter: there's a huge demand for mounted digital cameras. this one shows two burglars trying to break into a home. the clarity is amazing. here's another security camera video. listen carefully oop it had audio. you can hear the dog barking. watch the burglars go through the empty home. here's a camera mounted outside a house. a car carrying two burglars pulls up to the driveway. they break into the home. the burglars make several trips, loading the car with the stolen merchandise. all of it captured on video. a blessing for police. >> the biggest change for us has been the addition of video sur

r va lens in homes. >> the best seller is a program called verified response. a program that alerts police. the camera detects motion in the home. that triggers the recording. the images are sent in real-time to the company's monitoring station, where workers look for anything suspicious. if there is, they call police. >> they seem to come out faster. and hopefully they catch the person. >> that depends on how quickly officers get there. chances are most burglars get away before police can respond. there's a company that's trying to fill that gap. they have cameras at homes and businesses. the images are monitored 24/7. if there's unusual movement, the computer sends out a red flag. in this case, the break-in of a

downtown office building. >> when we see something suspicious, we dispatch the private security police force, that's driving around in the area. >> reporter: its armed private patrols are checking on the properties. when they're dispatched to check out a location, the company says their response time is no more than five minutes, enough time to capture the burglar. >> we get them before they come in, inside or coming out with the property. >> reporter: earlier this month, one of the biggest serial bicycle thieves in san francisco, was caught by patrol officers. cameras inside a garage captured his image. he had just stolen two bicycles, which you can see in the corner of this video. he's trying to open the gate. but the monitors are watching every step in the control room. they dispatch a patrol car.

the guards make a citizen's arrest and call police. for law enforcement, these advances in private security systems have become an extra pair of eyes. and hard evidence in court. >> arresting the individual contemporaneously to the event. putting him inside the residence. that makes for a very strong case on our part. >> reporter: vic lee, abc 7 news. rage on the river had paramedics rushing from call-to-call, as the heat caused problems for partiers. paramedics responded to those hurt or passed out or both. public safety officials said too many boats on the water prevented them from getting to a call fast enough. and friends took a man with a broken leg to the hospital. we're in for heat tomorrow. >> i'm going to show you what
