good afternoon, i'm dan ashley. >> two fires burning in san jose now. let's get to the first one. this is the fire at loss lagos golf course. >> that is not far if highway 101. flames are burning and sky 7 shows you golfers playing through in spite of the smoke and flames. it's not dangerous at this point. they continue with their golf game. >> yes. that is a dry creek bed there.

it is ep cooing flames from spreading and they need. that because it is in a heavily populated area. >> there has been heat and triple digit heat in some areas which is not helping. now another fire, two burning in san jose. this is a 70-acre grass fire going on two hours now. >> cal fire calling this the curry fire. this is a video now from sky 7 hd. we don't have reports of injuries at this point. there is a lot of support with air drops and dozers getting in there. we know there have been a number of evacuations underway. but this is burning so close to homes >> yes. >> 500 employees on have been sent home.

chief, how is it going out there? are you there? can you hear us? >> yes. >> how is it going on the fire line? >> so far, going well. >> tell me about that. give me a sense of what you're doing. >> we've stopped the floor of the fire, the structure threatened evacuations have been mitigated. and crews are still actively working. >> chief, we know this fire started before 2:00 this afternoon. is that right? >> do not have a reason at this point. it's still early in the investigation they're working on the cause. >> at this point we understand chief about 30% contained and unless that changed how big of a factor has heat been out there, today? >> it takes a toll. and adds another element to an

they've been fighting in difficult conditions. it's been windy and we had several locations breaking 100 degree mark already. taking a look at highs inland east bay concord, fairfield above 100 degrees up north. notice how wide a range of highs we've had on the coast only 63 in half moon bay.xd it's cooling relief just south. we can see fog along the coast filling in around monterey bay and beginning to move northward into our direction. but there is still fire concerns over in the central sierra.

there is a danger for dry strikes and north is because of a concern for dry lighting strikes back to the bay area, we do have winds gusting now. up over 20 miles per hour in temperatures diminish should reduce a risk of fire but is concern. >> we're heading into hottest months of the summer around the bay. water usage in the bay area cutting back on it is going to be the key. >> yes. it can be tough in sports of the east bay. residents are letting their lawns die. that may not be enough.

gm says it's aware of three deaths involving older model sedans including in the new recall. they say there is no evidence defect was to blame. this in addition to gm calls recalled for problems with ignition switch that's led to 54 accidents and 13 deaths victims and families learned how gm plans to compensate them. >> gm shows they said whatever it costs to pay claims under the protocol, they will pay it. there is no ceiling. >> that will be based on factors including age and family obligation the lawyer in charge says he will decide who qualifies and how much awarded. gm playing no role in that

another fire burning miles away. this is 70 acres and forcing evacuations here is a view of the fire. firefighters spent the last three hours trying to deal with it and have fairly successfully at this point. vic? >> this is the bigger fire. there is about 30% contained it's burned 70 acres. you can see white smoke not black smoke. it's good news meaning no homes were damaged the fire spread down hill towards santa teresa park.
