we're getting numbers that went to a four-alarm. ten people were evacuated but many left on their own. and as you said, two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries. it's hot on the ground and there is a chance it will fair up, glenn. this was christopher's first fire. . >> i saw flames across the hill. >> were you scared? >> kind of. >> grass fires started just before 2:00 this afternoon. the fast-moving fire spread quickly down hill. his mom, jenny lives in a house in the path of the fire. >> within minutes we could see flames everywhere. in the hill just engulfed people were running out. and it's scary. >> it went quickly to a three-alarm. >> it's the onset of the fire.

we did give reports it's up to at least 50 feet behind homes. so we took folks here in a hurry. this was an urban interface area. san jose fire immediately asked for mutual aid from cal fire. cal fire responded with a chopper making water drops. 70 acres burned and the response seemed to be working. police revehicle waited residents from two streets they were told to leave immediately. san jose fire asked cal fire for more engines, air tankers and bulldozers. >> and seven miles from the fire, flames and smoke spewed from another fire. this is located near capitol expressway.

with current winds. napa, 28 miles per hour gusts in fairfield of course as winds increase, that increases our concern of our fire. but right now, things are calming down a little bit in the bay area, winds are up. and in the sierra there is a red flag warning in the central sierra. concern is dry strikes and there have been a couple strikes today. well north, fire weather watch is in effect until 10:00 tomorrow night for same concern. dryness, heat, dry lightning strikes. >> thank you. water usage in the bay area are cutting back will be key. in parts of the east bay, residents are doing a lot to conserve but it's still may not be enough.

those not doing their part could face fines or worse. these folks had their water usage cut back. this is a service for residents that in cases are doing their part to consever. in dublin, they're calling it golden. it's almost like a badge of honor in these neighborhoods >> we cut back because they told us too. >> this we pride ourselves on not wasting water. >> some have signs firmly planted in sea of brown explaining why their lawn might

not look good. for those clearly wasting water there is now a set of fines and penalties in place. this homeowner received a letter informing him weekly water usage is more than twice the average of households in dublin, accounts that use more have been flagged >> we're seeing a lot of people taking steps to cut water use. it's a good thing. but we have a small set of the population that is still using too much water. >> there is a warning, then, a fine. then, $500 up to a thousand dollars. after that, they'll see excessive water supplies could be restricted or disconnected. here there is an option for those that want to give lawns and plants a fighting chance. there is a recycle water station residents can come get as much as they need, six days per week,

investigators say the women were walking home when a group of six men confronted them, saying they kicked and punched the women while yelling homophobic slurs. aggressors come to san francisco before just to attack gays and lesbians >> tonight a this 22-year-old arrested on suspicion of four felonies. this happened saturday in the cal train station in mountain view. video shows a woman repeatedly hitting the conductor, then, another conductor. sheriff investigators went on twitter and asked for help so they can use it for evidence. >> within minutes everybody was retweeting it. i just checked number was

around monterey bay. a surge of cool air into our direction is happening now. will continue to happen overnight. by 5:00 we'll see fog not only at the coast but will have increased presence mild but a cooler day tomorrow. notice whatever fog pushed inland burns back to coastline and in places away from the coast. giving us a cooler day but will be feeling cooling influence as it pull as way from the coastline. highs in the south bay ranging from low 80s to mid 80s in most locations and warmer down south. and areas of fog, i might add.

president obama says he's tired of waiting more than a year for leaders to pass a bill on immigration reform, the president says he'll use executive powers to change the law. the issue is under scored by the recent surge of central american children. the president wants to change the law to make it easier for the u.s. to return these children to their home countries. >> the children will be taken care of going through legal process but in case that's will lead to them being sent back

home. i've sent a clear message to parents in those countries not to put their kids through this. >> that angered many immigration activists they want the federal government to release thousands of the detained children. >> the u.s. has responsibility to admit the children, to give them medical treatment, education, and allow them to stay >> the group accuses the obama administration of warehousing latin american children who crossed the mexican border within the last few months >> the u.s. supreme court sided with hobby lobby chain in ruling some businesses don't have to provide birth control coverage if it goes against the company's religious beliefs. that is the reaction today, the decision applies only owe family-owned or closely held companies it's a set back to affordable

examples of how hands on experience is necessary for learning. now, california public schools want that instruction in the classroom. the superintendent of schools presented his final stem report at the exploratorium today. there is organizations given by 54 people that are teachers, business leaders and lawmakers among recommendations, increased number of computers in the classroom and improve internet capability. money has been approved by the legislation. >> we have a billion and a quarter dollars last year. and 400 million additional this year >> some will go towards training teachers to do more hands on instruction. the superintendent said the average california classroom will operate more like a college using more software applications. >> four students can work on the

enough. >> a new program being implemented this year in california public universities will offer scholarships to students from middle class families. rachel feldman is assistant vice chancellor of financial aid at uc berkeley >> students from slightly higher mid income families have been getting a squeeze. >> during phase one, it will cover 14% of a student's tuition by 2017-2018 school year, scholarships worth up to 40% will be offered. that is great news for students. >> very significant. hopefully i think we'll be, i will be eligible. hopefully. will give me piece of mind. . >> i feel like financial aid packages are becoming better, making college more affordable. >> marion is considering hiring a wealth management professional such as those as trilology for advice. >> i think the mistakes people
