crews battle a wildfire burning five square miles in napa county. the 3800, let's go to wayne freedman live with the latest on the fire burning now about 24 hours, wayne? >> as you said now, 3800 acres, it's up 600 acres from yesterday. there is still 30% containment. now, two residences have burned yesterday in this fire. over my shoulder, ongoing battle between firefighters, their planes and helicopters and hot spots. this bombardment has been continuing now for hours, since 1:00 this afternoon. for firefighters, overnight layers present opportunities the wind dies down. temperatures drop. if firefighters are lucky, the conditions persist after sun rise. that is what we saw this morning. no one took a brief inversion layer for granted. >> as far as inversion, it's not

the safest place to be. it's undediktable. >> a gust here, pump there and a blast of flames. that is what happened when the layer lifted this afternoon. firefighters worried about containing this, they battled along the lines. this took a small army to knock down. as it looked, that calmness in the face of a fire storm. >> the financial help for agencies working on the fire in pope valley the state secured a grant to cover some of the firefighting

costs, allowing agencies to recover up to 75% of the costs. >> so that is encouraging news. so is, as well, a bit of a break on the fire lines in terms of weather conditions. spencer christian is live this evening. >> there has been modest improvements. down to ground level down to area of the fire, which, as you know is burning. these are the current conditions sh temperatures 91 degrees still very, very warm. not as high as yesterday at this hour, humidity still low. 33% but it's on the rise winds are fairly light. steady winds at only three miles per hour. but we do have gusts to eight mifrp. those aren't powerful, any gusts will make it difficult for firefighters to continue flames. we have a red flag warning from clear lake northward as a concern is that there may be dry lightning strikes but the threat is diminishing later into
