and you know one thing can lead to another where they're showing off. anything could happen. the gun misfires and someone was shot. >> well, police say they have not located the suspect. and they're following all the leads. now his aunt and the neighbors say they have no idea who the shooter is. vic lee, abc 7 news. all right, vic, thank you very much. the san francisco general hospital is where police are right now. three people who were shot are being treated there. one of the victims is a child, two victims i'm told now. somebody dropped all of them off at the hospital and then took off. they were apparently shot just a few blocks away and they are expected to be okay. they are being treated as we speak, the two shooting victims. and customs officers arrested a child pornography suspect, nathan forstell, a bay area elementary school teacher was taken into custody last night after he arrived on a

plane from vietnam. he was arrested last year on child porn charges for having nearly a thousand images of child pornography. forstell taught for monterey. and santa cruz sheriff's deputies now are looking into unsolved criminal cases possibly involving the man we're about for show you. 46-year-old salvatore rocca, they linked his dna after a violent rape in july of 2004. that is when a 19-year-old woman was pushed down the road and strangled, then sexually assaulted. but she was able to climb back up and get help. rocca was already in jail after raping another woman he picked up while working as a taxi driver. a month later criminalists matched his dna to the 2004 unsolved rape case. and a difficult deal to keep

the oakland a's in san francisco has happened. an agreement for a new ten-year lease has happened. there are still a couple more details and approval needed before it is actually a done deal. >> reporter: well, it took 14 months. nobody ever said negotiations are easy. that approval still needs to come from the city council and from the alameda county board of supervisors. but a lot of a's fans today are breathing sighs of relief. >> so we're going to go there. >> reporter: for a brief, fleeting while today it seemed that planning any future for oakland a's fans may have been unwise. >> since staying in oakland, it is good for the city. >> a safe sentiment all around after 14 months of lease negotiations between the team and the coliseum authority turned from okay to tenuous to down right bad, when the oakland

politician s tried to sweeten te deal late. one spokesperson said take it as it is. >> reporter: that is the city council member, who ultimately resisted local politicians who leaned on him to reject the latest agreement. the city's concern. >> i didn't agree that it adequately protected the legal interests and taxpayers of the city of oakland. >> reporter: interest that requires them to give the team two-year's notice to leave, and would make them pay for the ten-year term. if the a's built a new stadium in town they would be off the hook. as it stands the a's's rent would decline the first year to $1.25 million in the last. the council says it is not all about dollars and cents. the a's committed to a new score board n board. >> now, the a's will pay for part of the deal and if they leave we still get to keep the

score board. >> the a's quoted, we believe this works well for the city and county taxpayers, the team, a's fans and all involved. >> i don't really care about the score board. i know, i know, i just want them here. ill want them to stay. >> it is all smiles now after 14 months of posturing. in oakland, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. and the finalizing of the lease doesn't diminish the others who want to bring the team to the south bay. san jose is waiting for a ruling from the court of appeals that could strike down the exemption. that effort to block the a's ownership to move the team, the mayor says he is happy the team agreed on the home for the next ten years but mayor reed wants to accommodate to move the team to his city. >> they spent years trying to put a deal together. he wants to come to san jose, we

want him to come to san jose, we have a site, a $45 million investment. >> the case will be heard by the appeals court august the 12th. meanwhile, the oakland raiders announced the team will pay the cheerleaders minimum wage this coming season. raiderettes will be paid for public appearances, the team had paid cheerleaders 12: s less. one said she made about $5 an hour after factoring in the required appearances. and images like this and cal fire, showing the effort going into fighting the wildfire that has gone on a couple of days. cal-fire called in more firefighters, including strike teams from alameda county. they were getting ready in san leandro county. and evacuations ending for

people in these estates, the fire has grown to six acres even though the firefighters are gaining the upper hand. two homes were destroyed. today we heard from one of the couples who owns one of the homes. abc reporter laura anthony has more. >> reporter: hi, cheryl, that is the anderson family from novato. and actually standing in what remains of their vacation home. it has been here for more than 50 years. this is actually the laundry room i'm in right now. the bathroom was apparently on this side. this obviously represents a very difficult time for this family. but down the road a much different experience for those who are allowed back in today. >> it has been really hard because it is just not the same. not being at our house. >> the ramirez family is finally back home two days after they were evacuated from the estates as the massive canyon fire marched towards their neighborhood. so how does it look to you around here? >> it is not as bad as we thought it would be. >> reporter: the ramirez family has settled in for now.

but with active fires still to the north, they and all the family in the estates were told by the officials they should be ready to leave again if necessary. >> it is kind of scary to know that any moment it can just change and come back to your direction. >> right there. >> reporter: a few miles away, peter and christine anderson found their property had nothing to return to. their family vacation home is among two destroyed since the fire started tuesday. >> it was a wooden structure with one bedroom. kitchen, nice big living room. nice big fireplace as you can see and about a thousand foot deck out front. >> reporter: christine anderson took time to take pictures and pay respects to the spot her father-in-law was buried. >> my job is to stand next to peter and comfort him and make him feel better. his loss is far greater than mine, i'm sure because of the memories for him. >> reporter: the andersons are not sure yet whether they will

rebuild. they say it is a decision that will be made as a family with time. >> you know i have two brothers and a sister. we have to decide if we want to do that or not. >> reporter: this is a swimming pool here at the anderson home. pretty much survived unhurt. they told me they built it while they were building the house so they could stay cool because it was so hot. right next to the pool, the fire hose, a clear indication that the firefighters state here as long as they could. they tried to save the home but in the end they had to leave their homes and bail out. laura anthony. well, the big question tonight, will it be fog or fireworks for the fourth of july? well, dan and cheryl. it really is going to depend on where you are. if you look behind me right now it is absolutely glorious out here. i'll be back with the fireworks forecast specifically with some of the major fireworks coming up. also tonight, celebration in oakland. the brand-new class of officers

covering san ramon, and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. security cameras helped detectives in san leandro catch one man accused of breaking into the store. they also used images to catch two others who broke into an eye wear shop. the thieves took off with several pairs of high end glasses early tuesday morning. >> that footage led us to the

others, the suspect vehicle which was seen in the area and dropping off the suspects and leaving. about five hours later, the detectives found it north on the oakland side of the border. san leandro police are encouraging all merchants to install surveillance video as a tool to fight crime. a portion of the beach closing this fourth of july weekend is for the birds, literally. starting tomorrow through sunday, a stretch of the great beach will close between half a mile north of the north beach parking lot and more than a quarter mile south of the abbotts lagoon, their breeding grounds will be protected from being disturbed and keeping their chicks from being disturbed by predators. well, some folks in san francisco will hear a lot of that over the next few days, a portion of a major freeway is now shut down. the closure is on northbound 280

from highway 101 to king street. the closure couldn't have come at a worse time for giants fans. a lot of them said the driver from san mateo county took twice as long as on a regular day game. third street, traffic also had epic traffic jams. here is some work being done, you can check out large sections of the roads being cut to work on hinges. the road will be closed in time for monday morning's commute. so good luck. >> good luck if you're out there on the roads any time soon. because getaway traffic for the fourth of july holiday is well under way. here is a live look at interstate 80 and the east bay, the nasty nimitz leading up to its name. and the road leading up to it, just a nightmare. the road in san francisco a similar story. the cars heading south on the

right not too bad. but if you're trying to get on the bay bridge as these folks are on the left-hand side of the screen, just no fun. here is a live look at the traffic throughout the bay you're, the red, there is a lot of it. if you are heading out to get out of town just be careful and patient. that is right, fill up the gas tank first. all right, well, fireworks ready to dazzle the crowds in the fourth of july celebration over the bay in san francisco. this crew of 15 is making finishing touches. and tomorrow afternoon they want to make sure the shells will fire at the right time. the technician says his team was born to do this. >> when i go out and i look for crew members i look for someone who liked to play with firecrackers when they were a kid. i say do you want to do a real fireworks show? yes, yes, yes, got the right one. >> well, this will be the biggest fireworks show in northern california featuring 10,000 fireworks.

hey, the festivities have already started along the water front here. a lot of people just enjoying the beautiful blue skies, nice weather here. and i do want to show you the fireworks forecast. so if you head out to any of the big events here is what it is going to look like. sun sets at 8:35 p.m. fog along the coast, breezy, clear in the inland communities. now check out the temperatures, 50s, coast side, 50s, 60s, around the bay. and 50s, 60s, 70s inland. as you take a look at the fireworks forecast with some of the major fireworks 9:30 tomorrow night, 57 in berkeley, 53 napa. 56 in san francisco. if i were you i would grab a sweater or jacket. santa rosa, 62, for most of the events the weather looks like it is going to cooperate. the only exception, san francisco, berkeley, there may be a little bit of fog. all right as you look at live doppler 7 hd, not a lot of fog left. just a bit along the coastline.

most of you enjoying the sun. we have been watching hurricane arthur. i do want to turn your attention to it. bands of rain lashing out at the carolina coastline as you can see there. hurricane arthur is a category 1 storm packing winds of 90 miles an hour. gusts to 115, moving north-northeast at 15 miles an hour. they have had reports of big waves in the area. a tornado watch box is in effect for parts of carolina, to hatteras, and reports of a tornado at rose hill and still a possibility as the hurricane interacts. and check out the gusts earlier. with over 50, 44 wilmington, 38 at hatteras, so pretty strong winds there and they're expected to continue. so if you have travel plans this is expected to intensify into a category 2 hurricane, 2:00 a.m. eastern daylight time with 100 miles an hour sustained winds.

then it will veer out to the ocean, friday at 2:00 p.m. we expect it to move away from land masses so we'll keep you posted on that. thunderstorms, by the way on the east coast, causing delays. so check with your carrier if you're heading out. from the east bay just a bit of fog out there. 62 in san francisco, 66 oakland, in san jose, gilroy, 67, upper 50s to the 80s, antioch in the 90s. beautiful blue skies in san jose, 84 novato, and santa rosa, 85 in concord and livermore. this is where you want to go this weekend if you want to cool off. in the 70s in santa cruz, lots of people enjoying the beach. patchy fog, sunny for most of the fourth of july. hot days inland this weekend. so as you take a look at the forecast this weekend, hot air mass from the concert southwest will spread the heat westward.

the temperatures especially inland really go up. tomorrow morning, limited fog, temperatures in the low 50s, low 60s, as we head into your fourth of july afternoon warm and sunny, bay and inland, we're looking at plenty of sun, but on the coast, 70s around the bay, 80s and 90s while inland. accu weather, seven-day forecast, mid-60s coast, sunday, monday, comfortable weather at the coast, 60s, getting hot inland up into the upper 90s. and then we'll drop your temperatures slowly around the middle of the week. so overall it looks like the weather is finally cooperating for the fourth of july. cheryl, dan? >> i know we put a lot of pressure on you for the fourth of july and you measured up. thank you, we'll see. coming up next, the hedge hog and the help he is getting for a new grip on life. >> i like you're keeping the pressure on sandy, cheryl. new at 6:00.

some breaking news in the east bay, our camera in emeryville, showing you what is happening on highway 80. a chp officer involved in a two-car crash sending five people to the hospital. that is the chp officer and four people from the other car. no word yet on how serious their injuries are or how the wreck actually happened. but you can see the result there backing up traffic on an already difficult horrible traffic day. we'll continue to follow that breaking news in emeryville and update you at 6:00 and twitter at abc7news.com. and such a great time to salute the men and women in the military who serve our country. one of them is a local iraq war veteran who shows us why he is

grateful for his opportunity to serve. he is helping other veterans succeed in spite of injuries he suffered from an improvised explosive device. leanne melendez has more. >> reporter: several tran has pictures to go along with his many combat stories. >> that was a picture of me in my full combat kit. >> reporter: he still has the helmet that saved his life after being severely injured in 2008 by an ied blast while serving in iraq. >> this actually still has the natural blood that was from mine. you can tell, they didn't clean it out. there are still stains in here. >> reporter: his captain, seen in this picture lost a leg. >> since i was his right-hand man, i was very close to him. i lost my right eye and fractured my femur. >> reporter: this san jose man says he has no regrets about

enlisting in the army in 2006. he had a career in marketing before that. and with a group of ñifriends, felt something was missing in your life. >> they were all saying, if you died today, what would you feel about it? i felt like i did not accomplish anything. >> reporter: a short time later he found himself in iraq as an infantryman, helping out in construction and helping out in the patrols on the front line. it was a new world for him, one that ht will always carry with him. >> it gave me a life and a purpose. they gave me meaning. those guys are great. >> reporter: he still keeps in touch with many of them. he took that experience and started anvil construction, now with 50 employees. three of them are war veterans. >> you got it. >> all right. >> reporter: after opening his business, ht made a commitment to other veterans and to himself. >> the goal is to grow that

number to half the staff. it will be a process. >> reporter: he is now balancing his career with his new role as a dad. he has a 20 month-old son. >> i tell everyone, i used to be a sergeant in the army. but now i'm just amazingly present. >> reporter: he says all of this has been possible. he says he was given a second chance to find out who he really should be. in san francisco, leanne melendez, abc 7 news. 34 recruits from the latest oakland police academy graduated today along with one very special member. honorary graduate emilio marco this 8-year-old got an honorary badge, emilio is suffering from a grave injury, but his dream is to grow up and be a cop. >> to be an oakland police officer. >> i want to be a police officer. >> what do you want to do as a

police officer? all right. >> what a sweetie, he wants to work at the oakland a's game as a police officer. this is the oakland a's 169th academy. and the department is eager to get all the new officers out on the streets. >> might be looking at the would-be criminals here, their failed attempt caught on camera. take a look at the customers, one pulls out a pistol. the other gets on the cell phone and tries to jump the counter and he misses. that causes a big problem. look at that. practice, right? that alerts the owners in the back room. they had a shotgun locked and loaded. the other co-owner says he got lucky he was not there. >> because he is a very humble guy. he has kids their age. and -- nervous kids, who knows? >> they didn't know what they were doing. and he pretty much let them get

away. >> both store owners say they hope this video gets these clumsy criminals off the streets. wow, now to a hedge hog that is able to move around thanks to a do it yourself wheelchair. the disabled rodent was about to be put down then a worker at a sao paulo zoo made a chair. it cost about five bucks to make the small buggy, with a sling to take the weight off the animal's lower body. and wheels in place in its hind legs. it was not clear what happened to the hedge hog. it arrived at the zoo after being rescued at the night club. but he is mobile. and just ahead, talk about all that jazz. local high schoolers go on tour, wait until you hear where they are
