>> good morning. i'mcornell barnard in for carolyn tyler. let's get a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> good morning, cornell. changes in our weather already pretty dramatic. this shows the sweep on top of mount st. helena. we are look agent a compressed marine layer allowing for pretty dense fog along the coast. high pressure is pushing down on the atmosphere and we are going to see holes in the overcast. really pushing back to the coast quickly and warming already in our east bay valley. so it is cooler along the coast and where the fog is. oakland 54. san francisco 53. 58 in san jose and visibility anywhere from a half-mile to a quarter mile and less than that through watsonville and salinas this morning. where the fog is with us it's three to four degrees cooler. it's warmer livermore and

concord. here's a look at the golden gate bridge. you see how railroad foggy it is. do be careful. mid-50s to near 70 coast and san francisco. 70s and 80s around the bay. mid-and upper 90s inland today. cornell. >> lisa, thank you very much. a vegetation fire burning in lake berryessa -- actually this morning 17 firefighters from almeda county, and they have been dispatched to help in the wildfire. the fair near like berryessa has spread to 37 acres. at one point it threatened 40 homes, force mandatory evacuations. we have the report. >> reporter: this was a crucial weapon in the battle against the monticello fire. helicopter after helicopter reloaded their buckets to fight a blaze burning in a remote and rugged area.

on the ground crews were mopping up hotspots already charred by the wildfires. at one point saturday it appeared that the fire jumped the line and tripled in size. >> we did lose a little bit of our containment lines but now we are back up to 30%. >> smoke could be seen for miles away. check out the spot from traverse air force base. at one point the wildfire threatened 50 homes and forced residents to evacuate golden bear state friday night. saturday evening the homes were no longer in danger. for example staying at this canyon creek resort campground were also evacuated, including this camper from napa. >> we saw the flow coming over the hills and coming over the top really fast. >> while most of the fire danger by the campground is gone, many returned to pick up their belongings and head home. >> all the power shut off. no power or water down there so time to leave. >> the fun of a fourth of july holiday weekend cut short. >> the fun kind of got spoiled.

but mother nature took over one day and that's about it. >> this fire now more difficult to control than the fire burning to the west in napa county. >> that's why we got out of here. we knew how the other napa fire went. >> saturday night as the fire continues to burn at a distance along the ridges, residents and firefighters know the season ahead will be a rough one. >> this is just a sign, i believe, of what the season is going to bring. >> that was suzanne fawn reporting. firefighters getting the upper hand on another fire burning north of lake berryessa. the fire that burned two homes and 7 other buildings is now 75% contained. it charred 4300 acres in napa and lake county since it started on tuesday. officials are still investigating the cause of a brush fire that destroyed 8 homes in collinsville. it started around 1:30 friday. when crews arrived two houses were on fire and flames quickly spread to six other houses. the red cross is helping families who lost their home. firefighters estimate the damage at $2.5 million. >> as the weather heats up, so

does the fire danger in the east bay. crews had to put out two small brush fires along i-680. they were approaching a water treatment facility and several homes. the fire commanders say they got several 911 calls about the fires. it's exactly the kind of awareness fire departments need from the public. >> we are in an extended drought and it's the hottest time of year. everything exceedingly dry. any slight spark can set off a fire. >> two acres were burned and no structures were damaged there. what was supposed to be a fun 4th of july left several bay area residents with devastating injuries, all because of illegal fireworks. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has details from san jose. >> just milliseconds after hearing that sound, he hit the ground bleeding. he bought a mortar firework to entertain the neighborhood kids.

>> that was long string and i barely sparked the lighter and it took off. >> both of the 41-year-old's hands blew off instantly. >> his father said i thought he was dead. my son wouldn't get up. i said help me move him to the sofa. blood still stains the family sofa and driveway. ortiz is a carpenter. his family has no idea what he will do once he leaves the hospital. an uncertain future also faces two men from sunnyvale. after what is described as another mortar type firework went off while they were holding it. the victim's friends did not want to be identified. >> when it went off, there goes his hand, went to his face and a chunk of his face. it's kind of gut wrenching. >> the victims were rushed to stanford for surgery and both men rely on their hands to work. one is a tattoo artist and the other is in construction. and finally in santa rosa a man was found clutching his hand while lying on west third

street. dispatchers called it an explosion injury caused by fireworks. all the victims could be charged for usage explosive device. abc7 news. >> pg&e officials say celebratory gunfire shot up into the air and likely caused a power line to come down, killing a man and injuring his brother. that was friday night. 19-year-old man of oakland died after be electrocuted and his brother remains in critical conditions. >> police in oakland say beefed up patrols resulted in dozens ever arrests in confiscated fireworks on the 4th of july. barrels were set up at fire stations for people to turn in their illegal fireworks, and as you see the barrel is pretty much full. investigators believe illegal fireworks started a fire friday night that destroyed power poles and three cars near an apartment building in santa cruz. firefighters had to evacuate homes until pg&e shut down the

power down an hour later. a 20-year-old man was arrested after police say he threw fireworks at officers who were trying to clear a crowd. he was one of 22 people arrested in santa cruz on friday night. >> this morning one person is recovering in the hospital after medical supplies helped fuel the fire in san jose. firefighters say it took about 50 minutes to control this fire on coyote road off highway 10 is 11. -- highway 101. the entire house was burning when crews arrived. as the fire started something went wrong with the medical oxygen tank. >> we have an idea it might have been something mechanical malfunction within the house due to one of the residents being on home oxygen that accelerated the fire through the house. that's why it became so big so quick. >> firefighters believe another eye please started the fire. two homes next door were evacuated during the blaze.

officials are trying to determine what caused a water main break in novato yesterday afternoon flooding a street. it happened off highway 101 and highway 37. several neighbors called 9-1-1 worried their homes would flood, as well. fortunately water did not get into any of the houses. authorities are investigating a shooting that injured one person at a bart station in the east bay. it happened at 10:20 last night in the bus zone outside the hayward bus station. person was taken to the hospital. no word on their condition. the hayward bart station was shut down for about 20 minutes while police investigated. no word on any suspects. police are look for a man they say robbed a bank in burlingame yesterday. it happened at 1:00 p.m. at the bank of america on chapin avenue. the suspect wore sunglasses, a has, and a woman's philly blue scar everybody. police say he handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and bomb and took off with the cash. he is described as a white man in his 40s, bald, about 5'6". caltran said construction

work on northbound 280 in san francisco is on schedule this weekend. crews are replacing a bridge hinge between cesar chavez street and 24th street. yesterday they were putting in metal birders and pouring concrete and reinforcing it. the next step is paving and painting stripes on the freeing. >> there's always the hope we can get it done earlier than expected. but obviously those things happen as the project goes on. we may know a little more later today and into the morning. k. >> the freeway is set to reopen by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. the shut down starts at 101 split and continues to king street. another closer is planned for the labor day holiday weekend in september. a big change for drivers today in san francisco. free sunday parking resumes in most areas. good news. the city started charging at parking meters on sunday last year but the program has now been scrapped. however, you will still need to feed the meters operated by the

clipped a seawall during a landing attempt. investigators say pilot error as well as the complexity of the plane's flight control systems contributed to the crash. malaysian officials say they will send an additional vessel to the ocean to assist in the search for the missing flight. the naval ship will set sail next month. boeing 777 vanished on march 8th with 239 passengers and crew on board. it was flying to beijing. last month australian investigators said they believe the jetliner was on autopilot as it crossed the ocean and kept flying as it ran out of fuel and plunged into the

>> some frightening moments when a great white shark bit a man swimming off a popular southern california beach yesterday. abc news reporter michelle fransen has details. >> manhattan beach, a group past while a fisherman tried to real in a great white shark for more than half-hour. >> the swimmer intercepted the shark and the shark ended up biting the swimmer in the torso. >> lifeguards rushed to the man's rescue, bringing him ashore on a bloody surfboard. >> we noticed the big side out of his side.

there was a lot of blood in the water and all over the board. >> the victim was conscious as he was rushed to the hospital. officials said his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. and swimmers were ordered out of the water. >> get out of the water! slashing! get out of the water! slashing! >> the juvenile great white sharks are becoming more and more common at the southern california manhattan beach. >> we are now known as the baby great white capital of the world. >> but authorities say the juvenile great white sharks are rarely aggressive. this time the shark may have been agitate bid the line and the battle with the fisherman. abc news, new york. >> i will be staying out forecast water there. >> this is just the latest in the string of the great white shark attacks and sightings on both coasts. if it seems like we are seeing more of them, you are right. according to noaa, the great white shark population has increased by an estimated 42%

since 1997. they credit their resurgence to a federal ban on hunting great whites and a conservation effort to change the shark's image. an alert for residents on the peninsula after a mountain lion was spotted in the highlands. near san mateo. someone saw it and found an animal carcass in the same area yesterday morning. one was also spotted on genes lane yesterday afternoon. sightings come after someone spotted one last year near fernwood street. in that incident the mountain lion attacked and killed a deer. a san jose woman thought her dog would be safe at a boarding kennel over the fourth of july, but as fireworks thundered overhead, the boxer, java, managed to escape. this is java. friday night he ran away from a pet villa in santa clara. employees say the dog jumped over four fences at the outdoor facility. now she has ended her vacation early and is back in san jose to look for her dog.

happening today, the san francisco symphony will perform at the 77 annual stern grove festival. they will perform a selection of works from american composers. hundreds of thousands of music fans attend the festival's free concerts on sundays during the summer. today's show starts at 2:00 this afternoon at 19th avenue in san francisco. it runs through august 24th. i started doing that with my parents when i was like ten. a lot of memories growing up. it was always pretty much freezing. >> it should be a foggy day in the grove, but other than that, you are right, you are warm up. >> we have the marin county fair, alameda county fair? >> last day of those fares. it will be warm. not only in the north bay but warmer out toward alameda today as the heat pushes in from the east. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. we will be looking at a little subtropical moisture coming our way. it won't trigger any showers.

maybe a thunderstorm in the valley. and right now it's all about the fog, the dense fog from our exploratorium camera where you can't even see the tops of these buildings. that's how low it is. it will get lower and lower, creating problems along the central coast. it is cooler where the fog sits. 54, partly cloudy skies across the bay in oakland with 58 and sunny skies in san jose. look at this. you can see how shallow that marine layer is. that's 977 feet. 48 in novato. dense fog through marin county. 56 by the delta and we are looking at that sea breeze backing off today, allowing for the coast to stay cool but we are going to see the warmth right around the bay and certainly inland. less than a quarter mile visibility novato, and about that in santa rosa. the central coast is even worse. do be careful out there this

morning. emeryville, it's brightening up. we look for foggy conditions at the coast for the next hour or so. then we begin to see some clearing, even some sunshine, a little bit anyway, perhaps stinson beach and getting close to ocean beach. definitely the cool conditions with the 45-degree temperature spread today. the warm air will be with us again tomorrow and then we will cool for the rest of the week. it is to the east of us in much. the west coast and the return flow bringing up a little bit of subtropical moisture. we will increase the relative humidity and some showers and storms may be firing in the mountains. today in the los angeles county mountains and tomorrow morning you notice we have cloud cover around the bay through the afternoon. no threat of rain and that will be to the east of us. but still, plenty of blow off perhaps from some of the clouds and a partly cloudy sky. and the dewpoints getting close to about 60. so we will feel a little bit

can't quite see twin squeaks sutro tower floating above where the fog is dense. right at the surface. we are sitting at 48 in novato, 50 santa rosa. sunny and mid-50s in the east bay valleys. we're on our way to a much warmer day today inland and warmer around the bay. the coast does stay foggy. we are looking at visibility right now less than a quarter mile from watsonville up through the golden gate bridge. we have that to contend with it the on shore push, keeping the numbers in the 60s with the fog around ocean beach today. we will be in the upper 70 he's in berkeley and the upper 80s in san jose. upper 90s out toward livermore. >> lisa, thank you very much. a crisis is growing on the u.s. border to mexico. thousands of young immigrants are flooding into the u.s. it's led to heated demonstration necessary texas and california. the immigrants are being flown into the state because of overcrowding in texas.

bay area congressman eric swalwell just returned where he saw firsthand out immigrants and families are being affected. the crisis continues to spill over. protesters on both sides of the immigration debate refuse to back down. >> the temperature was over 100 degrees, and it got very politically heated. >> immigrant rights advocates were there as groups arrived by bus after crossing into texas illegally. >> we are talking about buses full of children. children of that been traumatized by making a journey in some case over 1,000 miles alone from central america. >> what i saw was quite eye-opening. >> east bay congressman eric swalwell just returned from the texas border where thousands of unaccompanied children are overwhelming crossings and being detained for processing. he talked to a 17-year-old from el salvador. >> i asked him why he came here, and he said for a better life.

their sit-done follows their testimony last week on the crisis on the border. you can catch it here on abc7. >> the man who shot video of a chp officer hitting a woman on the side of the freeway is talking about why he posted the video online. a warning, this video may be difficult for some viewers to watch. daniel diaz said an officer chased a woman around the truck after stopping her for walking on the freeway last tuesday. the officer was able to eventually stop her. what happened next shocked some. >> what anybody else would do getting pounded is to go by this and now she is saying she's restrained. it's in excuse. we are giving too many excuses. no rationalizing. we need to stop this.

that's why i but the video on and i posted the video. >> the chp has not identified the officer but has placed him on administrative duty. >> developing news, a 15-year-old florida teen who was beaten by israeli police and in prison has been released from custody this morning. this is a new video of the boy, leaving a detention facility. he was visiting jerusalem with his family when he was attacked by israeli police officers. the officers repeatedly beat the teen and they drag him away. his parents say he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. >> palestinians live like this every day. they say we will deal with it. but us as americans, it's not human. >> his 16-year-old cousin was murdered last week in what is thought to be a revenge attack for the recent kidnapping and murder of three israeli jewish teens. this morning israeli authorities arrested suspects in the killing of his cousin. he took part in the clashes that followed. relatives in the bay area feel more attacks will come.

>> a group of medical centers on the east coast are testing a new way to help doctors track their patients' health by looking at their credit card purchases. carolina's healthcare using data from 2 million consumers to help identify health risks. this allows doctors to predict future health problems for people who frequently use their credit card to buy items like fast-food, cigarettes or alcohol. healthcare providers can also offer better care by calling if data shows the patient is not refilling their prescriptions regularly. many patients have voiced their concern with the new program complaining it's a violation of privacy and less personal than the traditional doctor-patient relationship. i can just see them calling, did you just buy some munchos and something fried at a fast-food store? >> that's right.

>> coming back this morning with a view from our emeryville cam. we have some fog out there, but more importantly, light traffic on the east shore freeway. don't see that too often. lisa argen will have your full forecast coming up in a few minutes. south bay is getting two new stadiums in the months ahead. levi stadium has been getting the most attention but interest in the world cup has focused attention on a new stadium for the san jose earthquakes. a look at the quake's new home and a look at their features. >> 200 or more construction workers have been on site almost

daily. it should be ready by november to give them time to settle in before the 2015 season starts in march. >> the team, you know, it will be good for the area. >> the new home will be the centerpiece will be a new, mixed-use development on what used to be the site of mfc, who made military tanks. >> it includes four community soccer fields the city is putting in. 1.5 million square feet of office. next to the stadium. space for retail and hotel. this whole area will be a new gateway for north san jose. >> they will be utilizing solar energy for power needs. solar panels will be installed over the parking area. initial projected savings will be $45,000 to $60,000 a >> hopefully, as time goes on and they continue to see the benefits and as solar continues

temperatures. you have to be really careful out there. a beautiful shot from the east bay hills camera where the marine layer is about 700 feet. 58 san jose. it's low and dense. 52 gilroy. half moon bay at 50 degrees. we look for numbers probably around 100 degrees well inland today. here's sutro tower where san francisco will climb autofew degrees. a nice afternoon. sunny skies with a comfortable sea breeze. look at novato. down to 46 degrees. 56 concord and livermore. and this is the visibility at a quarter mile. but it is less than that when you navigate closer to the coast and you really do have to slow down, use your low beams. sunny in san jose. foggy skies at the coast. clear inland. warmer today for just about everyone. the coast may warm up a degree or too -- ortiz two. and we will be warm tomorrow. a little moisture headed our way

as the high builds. around it the subtropical moisture is feeding up. usually whether we get the offshore flow it's from the high that builds in off the coast. so this is a different one that is alive for most of the heat to be in our inland east bay and that's why we will see the 50-degree spread today. 99 yosemite. here's the mid-level moisture that provides the showers and thunderstorms to the mountains of los angeles. l.a. 85 today. look for 102 in sacramento, 105 in chico. it won't cool down here until tuesday where we will get a little bit of cooling ourselves on tuesday burks at least we have the sea breeze. today in san jose look for numbers well into the 80s. not much change for the beginning of the week. and low 80s should be the deal for tuesday into next weekend. so high temperatures around the bay today. you notice how warm it's going to be from concord at 95. 97 livermore. 99 in antioch. with comfortable mid-70s over in oakland. we get into the 80s around
