good evening and thank you for joining us. to developing news. the wildfires burping in northern california. bay area crews have joined the firefight. a strike team from the alameda county, fremont fire departments left this morning to help fight a fire in yolo county near the dam at lake berryessa, an hour east st. helena. the fire is 30% contained. flames forced mandatory

evacuations. highway 128 is closed. >> firefighters are getting the upper hand on another fire. the fire in pope valley has burned two homes and seven buildings. it's now 80% contained. there were four injuries connected with the fire and charred 4300 acres since it began on tuesday. a san rafael man faces charges, accused of sexually abusing a girl over a three-year period. police arrested 37-year-old arturo hernandez this morning. he was on his way to meet the teenage victim. investigators say the abuse began when the girl was 13. new details in the case of a florida teenager who says he was brutalized by israeli police. the 15-year-old is out of jail tonight without being charged. but israeli authorities insist the young man is not the innocent bystander he claims to be. here's the story from jerusalem.

survived a great white shark attack in southern california. he was an hour into his regular swim when he came face-to-face with a shark. the juvenile had been trying to free itself from a fisherman's hook for a half an hour when it bit him. in a phone interview today, he said the shark came out of nowhere. >> it looked at me and lunged at my chest, bumped into my chest, and i took my right hand and grabbed the nose of the shark to try to pry it -- its mouth open to get it off of me. that all happened within two seconds. i was scared. more than anything, i was just terrified. >> surfers helped save hem. those who frequent manhattan beach say sharks are frequently seen in the water but this is the first time they heard of a shark bite in the area. shark sitings are on the rise on several california beaches. an alert tonight for residents on the peninsula after a mountain lion was spotted in

>> a year later we're remembering the asiana plane crash at sfo. three people died. 181 others were injured when the plane clipped the sea wall while landing. nick smith is live tonight from an area in millbrae where some actually saw that crash. nick, this tragedy continues to have a tremendous impact. reporter: it does indeed. we spoke with the father earlier today who said that he comes out here regularly with his son, to

watch the planes take off and land. what he was not prepared to do was have a conversation with him about life and death. >> i was at work when i saw my dad's plane on fire, with all the flames. >> ewan this is talking about asiana flight 214. a year ago today the plane crashed while landing at sfo. three people died 1, 87 were injured. her father, 47-year-old eugene was on the flight and survived. we spoke with eunice by phone. >> i was praying in the back of my mind and tried not to let the outside voices tell me that my dad didn't make it. >> the plane clipped the sea wall just short of the runway, spun for 340 degrees, broke into pieces and caught fire, and it happened on a day like today, clear skies. >> we talked about coming out here that morning. >> they come to bay front park to watch planes take off and land regularly. after the crash matthew had his

talk with a son no father enjoys, one about life and death. >> just being open about things and talking about life and death, and things, helps him integrate it. >> last month the ntsb determined the pilots made serious mistakes on the approach and landing of the plane. one of the crew deactivated the automatic speed control system. it was fatal error because the pilots did not notice the plane was losing speed and altitude until it was too late. >> the pilots must command their automation and not rely on it. the pilot must always be the boss. >> but the ntsb says other factors contributed, including fatigue and pilot training issues. >> they have not addressed the fundamental issue in that crash. >> captain rick deeds, an aviation expert, he says the ntsb report was clear, these pilots are improperly trained. >> they did not know how to fly

the airplane, period. >> of the 307 people on board, almost 200 were taken to area hospitals with injuries such as bruises, broken bones and spinal damage, three people died. >> my father survived and a lot of other families survived but three people didn't make it out. those parents are still mourning. >> making today, the anniversary of the crash, an uncomfortable reminder. >> airfield security officers at sfo will be honored for their response to the crash. the six officers who were among the very first on the scene carried victims of the crash to safety. the officers will be honored during the supervisor meeting. >> doctors and nurses at the hospital was a learning experience. hospital staff gathered to review how they handled the mass

casualty incident. they're using the experience to help improve services at the new hospital now under construction. it will have double the patient capacity, and is set to open in december of next year. >> ahead, pilot's perspective on the crash. we'll hear from a pilot who was coming in for landing just behind the asiana flight. hear from her on abc7 at news at 6:00 jame. >> the dog that got spooked by the fourth of july fireworks and escaped from a kennel has been found, hit and killed along highway 101. she boarded her two dogs at a pet villa while going out of town this holiday weekend. employees called her saturday morning informing her, her three-year-old boxer, had disappeared. she came home to search for her dog. this morning pet villa called to tell her the dog was found dead. they said this is the first time an incident like this happened. >> the owner thought it was a
