business. it is 10 hours ahead of schedule. good evening. i'm ama dates. abc7 news reporter is live in san francisco with the -- is live with the details. >> it shutdown wednesday night at 9:00 and it wasn't scheduled to reopen until tomorrow morning at 5:00. there were cars coming down the northbound lanes and that sign above says it all. the 280 is open now. just before 7:00 p.m. a pair of chp officers lead the first cars over the newly reopened interstate 280. crews fenned 10 hours uhy -- finished 10 hours ahead of schedule. >> we took 101 because i

didn't know it was opiate. it was open yet. >> crews worked for more than a hundred hours uninterrupted replacing a hinge that connects two sections of the freeway. the construction shutdown the northbound lanes, a headache for some. >> i hate 101. avoid it like the plague. i have been watching these signs that it was closed from the second to the seventh for weeks and weeks. finally it is open and we can come on in. >> cal trans scheduled this construction project on a long holiday week end to avoid the crush of regular weekday traffic. for san francisco residents, the shutdown is barely noticible. >> i feel a lot of people were out of town. >> crews replaced a slowly crumbling nearly 50-year-old six-inch hinge. the replacement looks like this. >> we did the first on memorial day and obviously this one on the fourth of july.

>> the specific dates and time frames over labor day weekend for that final project have yet to be determined. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> we will keep track of your morning commute on the abc7 morning news at 4:30 a.m. road construction on the davis street bridge on 880 is expected to begin in san leandro. the majority of the work will be done with lane closures and full freeway closures in both the northbound and the southbound directions. single lane closures begin tonight in the northbound lanes of 880. a full road closure begins at midnight. drivers will be detoured off 880 at davis street. new at 11:00, two women were hurt after they were hit by a car in the sunset district. it happened before 9:00 on sunset boulevard and moraga street. police say the two were in a crosswalk carrying groceries when they were hit. both were unconscious when police arrived. but police say their injuries are not life-threatening. police say other cars stopped and he didn't see the women.

police say it is likely the driver will be cited for not yielding to pedestrians. tonight residents living near the montecello fire are allowed back to their homes. it has burned 6500 acres. earlier cal fire said it has burned 7,000, but they revised the number after better mapping too. today's heat was a problem for firefighters who had to deal with the winds coming from different directions. a cal fire bulldozer rolled over while working on a steep hill. the operator was taken to the hospital. while some evacuation orders have been lifted the camp grounds are -- the camp grounds are still closed. >> coming over the hill and we have seen it come over the top really fast. >> mother nature took over and that's it. >> 1400 firefighters are battling the flames and the fire is just 30% contained. another fire burning near the

lake a is 85% contained. the fire has burned two homes and seven other buildings. cal fire reports four injuries connected with the fire. it burned 4300 acres in napa and lake counties since it started on tuesday. california's bone dry terrain is not helping firefighters. 100% of the state is suffering severe drought or worse right now. a decade's old law is drawing new criticism. it bars the public from viewing records of water wells throughout the state. only a few state officials and researchers can access this information. critics of the 63-year-old law say the information could help scientists and the water policy specialists better protect the ground water supply. there is still no rain in sight. this is a live look outside from our exploratorium camera at the bay bridge. abc7 news meteorologist is here with a first check on weather and live doppler 7hd. francis? >> ama, good evening. everyone, clouds are moving in

you can see a plane from argentina crossing the runway as a russian plane is coming in to land. the pilot quickly pulled up averting a disaster. the plane landed safely on the second attempt and the other plane took off heading to by bough wean knows air reece. police are investigating a shooting. officers arrived to find two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. emergency crews transported the two to the hospital one with life-threatening injuries. a san rafael man is in jail tonight accused of sexually abusing an underaged novato teen the last three years. officers arrested hernandez this more this -- this morning. he was spotted to meet with the female victim. hernandez may have started abusing the girl when she was just 13. the former assembly speaker wants a recount in the primary race for state controller. the california democrat came

overcast, fog overnight. we will see the fog develop along the coast and into some of the nearby valleys. warm to hot temperatures tomorrow. and then a cooling trend midweek. that's nice for some inland communities who are near 100 for the last couple days. the fog is trying to make its way in, but not too much. notice these high clouds coming in from the south. we will wake up to overcast conditions and temperatures in the 50s with 54 in san francisco. 55 in oakland. 59 in san jose. milder in livermore and antioch. we have this hot air mass that continues to build. notice the air is rotating clockwise. that will pull moisture from the south. we will see that in the form of high clouds. this moisture may also bring a chance of a shower and even some thunderstorms possibly in the higher elevations well east of fresno. you can see the areas with the light green. tomorrow it is going to be very warm once again. in fact, the temperatures will be similar to today's a

i'm ama dates. in today's headlines, northbound 280 has reopened 10 hours ahead of schedule. the stretch of freeway opened at 7:00 as they reopened a hick connecting two parts of the freeway. two women were taken to the hospital after they were hit by a car in san francisco's sunset district. they were at a crosswalk at the time. the driver told police others cars were stopped and he didn't see the women. people living near the montecello county in yolo county are allowed back in. three people have been injured including one firefighter hurt when a bulldozer tipped over while digging a fire line. today marks one year since

asiana airlines flight 214 slammed into the sea wall at sfo. three people were killed. today passengers and their families said the memory is still hard to think about. the tragedy has since prompted a sharp examination of pilot training and emergency response to disasters. abc7 news reporter eric thomas takes a look back. >> asiana flight 214 came in for a landing at sfo just before 11:30 in the morning. it crashed with 291 passengers and 16 crew members. >> the communication from the tower was alert 3, alert 3, pdane crash, plane crash. >> emergency crews jumped into action at the airport. >> by the time we removed the final victim the conditions were the fire was banking down on us and we had heavy black smoke. >> at san francisco general hospital dr. mary margaret knudson was preparing to be inundated with severely

injured patients. >> as i ran down to the emergency room two of the critical people, the initial ones, were actually passing me going into the trauma bay. >> the 181 passengers suffered some kind of injury and only 12 considered critical. >> you think you are ready and you walk down and you see this enormous -- the vats are unfolding in front of you. you have to take your own pulse for a second. >> only two passengers died at the crash scene. both high school students from china. one was run over twice by a san francisco fire department crew. a third person died in the hospital several days later. among those passengers on board that day, joan and her husband. shortly after the crash they spoke with kristen sze. they told her they were traveling to san francisco from shanghai on their dream vacation. >> "we suddenly crashed and i

thought, today i will probably die here. we impacted hard. everything shook and things fell down. all of the lights went out." >> she broke down and unable to describe that day. he took this video and watched emergency crews treat his wife. she fractured her ankle. a ct scan showed massive bleeding on her brain. surgeons removed part of her skull to relief the -- relieve the pressure. they are back in shanghai and shared this photo. he writes "my wife has been in rehabilitation and the brian injury is also recovering." though he still struggles with memories of that day she has returned to work part-time. like many of the passengers injured in the asiana crash, the couple is now waiting for multiple lawsuits to be settled. different lawyers filed cases for all but a hundred passengers.

lives. two of the three victims killed in the crash were not buckled in and they were ejected from the aircraft. eric thomas, abc7 news. >> removing three few sill lodges from a river in montana could take days. a train derailed on thursday and the train carried six fuselages and three others also fell off, but stayed on land. the fuselages were traveling from a plant in kansas to a boeing facility in washington state. progress of the clean up has been slow because of the machinery necessary to pull the few fuselages up that steep bank. a florida teen walked out of an israeli court today and into house arrest at his uncle's jerusalem home. 15-year-old -- the 15-year-old was in jail for three days without charges after being beaten by israeli police. he will remain on house arrest for nine days and then return to his parents' florida home on the 16th.

today was just one day after the attack. swimmers and surfers are diving back into the ocean. here is nick watt. >> this is a moment a great white shark sunk its teeth into steve robles. the long distance swimmer nearing the end of an early morning dip. today he showed us the wound from those jaws. >> right when it bit right into my chest, you can just hear everything crunch. i was staring at the shark eyeball to eyeball, literally like right here. it was the most frighten thing thing -- frightening thing. looking eye to eye with this thing on your chest. >> what was the look in his eye? i mean -- >> just a dead look. it is just this blank dead stair in its eye looking at you while it is biting you. it is scary. >> the shark a seven or eight-foot juvenile was hooked by a fisherman and fought for
