our reporter is in san francisco with how caltran got it done early. amy hollyfield? >> look behind me, it is open. it is quiet. it is only 4:30 in the morning and it is supposed to be closed for another 30 minutes. it is open. here is the c.h.p. leading the first cars on to northbound 280 before 7:00 last night. ten hows ahead of schedule. they had to shut down northbound 280 into san francisco because the crews replaced a hinge that undued years and years of wear and tear. >> this is the first hinge, memorial day and this is fourth of july and hopefully the last two hinges are done over labor day weekend. >> they do not know the timing of the final labor day project but it is out there. this will be happening again.

c.h.p. says there were no major problems to report over the weekend just confusion and congestion. this was necessary because caltrain said we needed the new hinge. >> road construction on interstate 880 is underway in san leandro with full freeway closings northbound and southbound direction. all lanes should be re-opened by 5:00 this morning in half an hour. single lane closings began last night in northbound 880 a full road closure began at midnight with drives detoured off 880 at davis. >> los gatos firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire behind a restaurant on university avenue. the los gatos fire department says this involved a four-plex. we will have an update as soon as possible.

>> two women were hit by a car in san francisco's sunset district before 9:00 last night on sunset boulevard. police say the two were in a crosswalk carrying groceries and they were hut. both were unconscious when police arrived but the injuries were not live-threatening injuries. driver said other cars stopped and he did not see the women. it is likely the driver will be cited. >> some living near monticello fire are allowed back in their hopes. it scorched 6,500 acres. cal fire said they revised the number downward from 7,000. heat caused big problems with winds from distribution differents, some evacuation orders lifted but campgrounds are closed. another fire near lake

berryessa is 85 percent contained after burning two homes and seven other buildings. there have been pour injuries. it has burned 4,300 acres in napa and lake county since tuesday. >> california broken dry terrain is not helping firefighters, 100 percent of the state is under "severe drought," or worse. >> the drought is spoiling summer lands for campers with camp sites closed for the season at three parks including moment park. the problem reduced water levels at the creek which is the main water source. with a limited supply of water officials can not operate the camp sites. memorial park remains open for days, the same for other local camp grounds which also closed for the season although the park is open. >> a coffee shop at city college of san francisco is accused of bilk of the school out of

thousands. they were evicted after years of ignoring missing lease payments. city college is suing the coffee shop. they owe $127,000 in back rent and other fees. the college itself has come under just any for lax fiscal oversite. >> historic san francisco gun club could close shop at the end of the year. the pacific rod and gun club has been told by the public utility commission it must vacate when the lease expires december 31 so p.u.c. can comply with an order of the water quality board to clean the area by 2016. the gun club president said that could be overturned and claims they can do the the clean up without closing club.

the 32-year-old carlson was pulled from the water by fellow lifeguards following a frantic 90's minute ocean search in southern california. he went into the water to help a swimmer in trouble when they were hit by a 10' swell. the swim are made it to shore. >> in southern california, a long distance swimmer who fived a frightening encounter with the shark is sharing his incredible story, an hour into the regular weekend swim off manhattan beach and he came face-to-face with a sharp 7' long trying to free itself from a hook for half an hour and it attacks. year, he says that the shark cape out of nowhere and sunk its teeth into him. >> right when it bit into me, you could hear the crunch and i was sharing at the shark eyewall to eyeball. >> surfers saved him.

sharks are frequently seen in the water but this is the first time they had a shark bite. the shark sightings are on the rise in several southern california beaches. >> incredible images from a rural montana man, a freight train carrying airplanes from boeing derailed sending the parts tumbling down a cliff into a liver. removing the three fuselages from the river in montana could take days. no one was injured when 19 cars from a westbound train derailed on thursday. the train carried six fuselages total can three others fell off but stayed on land. they were traveling from kansas to washington to be assembled into airliners. >> many lessons have been learned since the crash of asiana flight 214 and this is a

smooth landing of a flight a year to the day after the crash. the flight number is changed to 212. last in, federal safety officials recommended two dozen changes to make sure such an accident will never happen again. year's one-year anniversary brought back tough memories for those who saw the crash happen in person. knick has this story. >> i thought everyone on the plane was dead. 300 people. burned to death. >> this pilot did not want did give her name but has not been able to shake the image of asiana flight 214 crashing at sfo. >> we saw the entire approach and we saw the hitting of the seawall. >> three people died and 187 were injured. >> i was at work and i saw my dad's plane on fire with the flames. >> she is talking about her father, 47-year-old on the flight and survived.

we spoke with his daughter by phone. >> i was praying in the back of my mind and tried fought to let the outside voices tell me my dad didn't make it. >> after the plane clipped the seawall it spun 330 degrees break into pieces and caught fire. >> hard to talk about the crash because you don't see many crashes. >> matthew and his son come to watch the planes take off and land regularly at sfo. >> we are open about things and talking about life-and-death and things helped him integrate it. >> ntsb determined that the pilots made serious mistakes on the approach and landing but the ntsb says other factors also contributed including fatigue among the crew and pilot training issues. >> it has been a year since the crash and official explanation as to what went wrong and still many survivors find it too

difficult to talk about. >> airline security officers will be honored for their response to the asiana flight 214 and the six officers among the very first on the scene carried victims of the crash to safety and the officers will be honored by san francisco supervisors during a meeting tomorrow. >> baseball all stars are announced and there are a lot of green and gold at the game, six players were chosen to go to mid-an lit for the classic including pitcher. norris and moss are also on the list. >> very deserving and a special moment for each and every one of us. i have said this for years, we have had gives on this team that are very talented.

running on time and ace train one is on time and a couple of projects still lingering this morning. not for much longer, northbound and southbound highway one it is shut down and there are detours in place trying to repair a bridge overpass, through pacifica, the commute could be slow, as we take you across the bay we have this accident, an investigation along the parkway where it is shut down between sequoia at highway 84 and that is around for the next three to four hours so plan ahead. taking a wide view of san jose 57 miles per hour beyond the airport and 280 through cupertino, no delays at cupertino up to sunnyvale and outside at the bay bridge toll plaza we do have cash-paying lanes stacking up but all if all we are still looking light in the area. scientists are coming to the aid of parents forgetting children to follow the rules.

volunteers are working to protect the parks who are crashing in because the water levels that are recedeing are revealing artifacts from ancient tribal sites and rangers have had people filling up buckets and taking them home. volunteers are monitoring northern california state parks to protect our cultural resources. >> and we have waters pulling back and supposing the beaches. >> the rates of evaporation are tremendous with the strong sun angle and with the winds, it acts like a hair dryer. the clouds are developing over us and the temperatures today are two degrees cooler-than-average, and oakland is two to three degrees warmer, and napa is 88. livermore is 97, nine degrees warmer-than-average. you can see the thunderstorms
