live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. sky 7 is over a gruesome traffic accident involving a big rig and up to six vehicles on highway 7 in the santa cruz mountains. one person was killed. several others are injured. thanks for joining us. c.h.p. says the accident happened just before 8:00 this morning and it brought track to a complete stop on 17 near pair creek road. we joined near the scene.

that is the tractor trailer that caused the accident at 8:00. we are on the frontage road the northbound lane of highway 17. the truck was going northbound on 17 and according to early reports we hear that he may have lost his brakes and crashed through the railing that separates the main highway from the frontage road. the highway what troll is out here in full force and the reason why this road is going to be closed for another three or four hours is that the multidisciplinary accident investigation team is deployed here. they are interviewing witnesses. you can see road crews trying to figure out how to repair the rail and we have nine vehicles which were damaged in the multiple vehicle collision that need to be checked out, as well as towed away. this is going to be very painstaking investigation.

the elite organization knows how it unfolds and they will put today the cause of the accident. if we can switch to sky 7 we will we show you something interesting: there are cones along the center line of the southbound lane. the reason for that is the highway patrol is trying to see whether they can re-open the northbound lane by putting traffic in the southbound lane. suddenly the sound lanes would be two-way lanes and the yellow cones, orange cones would be separating the track going in opposite directions. we don't have word when that will happen or whether they can make that happen but that is what the process is right now. back on the ground we can see the highway patrol is talking to potential witnesses and others who may have information what happened. this is a main staking investigation and we know that there are multiple injuries along with one fatality and that is why to will take time to unravel.

we are along highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains for abc7 news. we are learning more this morning about the horrific shooting rampage in texas that left six family members dead including four concern. we now know the relationship between the victims and the alleged gunman. katie marzullo is in the newsroom. katie? he is charged with capital murder. police say the victims are a married couple and their five children. they are related to haskell's wife, and he and his wife are getting divorced. >> police say the suspect, ron haskell was targeting the soon-to-be ex-wife's family members going to their home last night wearing a fedex universe has a disguised but he was an employee with the contain physical january. investigators say he kicked in the door, tied up the one child who was home and waited for the

rest of the family to arrive. >> in 40 years i have not seen such a horrific tragedy of one family. the parents were shot and killed, katie and steve stay, four of the children, ages fours seven, nine and 13 are also dead. >> it is heartbreaking to know one someone is fill with so much anger they take it out on little kids. >>the only survivor is a 15-year-old girl shot in the head and still managed to call 9-1-1 and tell the dispatcher he was headed to the grandparents' how many where he was going to kill more family members. >> we station on constables and five minutes after we did that he drove up. he took off and the police followed. >>the left rear tire is flat on the tire. >> chase him until he stopped after a three hour long stand off he surrendered. >> the charges against haskell

were read in court as a hearing and he was not there. haskell is due in court tomorrow morning. an emergency drill involving hundreds of people is underway right now at seattle international airport with a directly link to last year's flight at sfo simulating a large air crash with 300 volunteer victims and multiple agencies from seattle area are taking part in the exercise. another connection to the asiana flight 214 is that a helicopter -- eight helicopters are taking part in the drill. >> firefighters in san jose made quick work of a fire near a golf course this morning. >> you can see firefighters knocked it down quickly put out the fire.

the cause is under investigation but a homeless camp was found near the fire and there were two other fires in the same area just last week. >> in the east bay the family of the baby girl who disappeared a year ago will barry for a vigil. last year on this day, the girl was reported missing and the father said he left her in the back of the car when he went into the car. when he came out she was gone. she has still not been found. he was the only "person of interest" in her disappearance and he committed suicide two months ago. >> homicide detectives in georgia re-opened an investigation into the death of the boy friend of the alleged prostitute charged with killing a firm google executive. the woman, 26 years old, licks lick, did not -- alix tichleman did not enter a plea. we have learned that investigators in alix tichleman atlanta are looking at the death of her boyfriend, 53-year-old, would was a knit club owner who
