the pets did not do much better. >> it was a scary morning for man and beast, a faint spell of smoke in the air right new and if you look at the building you can see the window is the side of the unit on fire and there is a hand written note on the wood says for the owner to call the fire department. two people live in the apartment when the fire broke out they were here and are in the hospital now. a man has severe burns to his face and body. the fire is still under investigation. at this point firefighters say cooking may have been the cause. the other video shows a heart warming moment in this mismore tune, a small white dog and a cat, the two pets, had to be rescues from the fire and firefighters could be seen giving them oxygen and carrying them to safety.

both the cat and the dog went to the emergency veterinarian clinic. there are three units in the apartment building. firefighters were able to contain the damage to the bottom unit. the house behind it and upstairs are still okay. that is good for the neighbors but the home where the fire was is fought livable any time soon. >> developing news a woman knocked unconscious when she tried to stop a fight near at&t park is in the hospital with serious injuries this morning. it happened before 6:00 p.m. after the end of the giants and a's game a couple of hours later and police did not say it was a fight among fans or if it was a rivalry thing. the woman is believed about 30 was trying to break up the fight between her boyfriend and two other men when she was punched in the face. investigators state two suspects drove away from the scene if a

gold toyota pickup truck. we will follow the story for you today. grand jury transcripts are unsealed from the sierra lamar murder investigation from the proceedings against the woman indicted in february. sierra that ma disappeared two years ago and her body has never been found. the prosecution and defense objected to the motion to unseal the transcripts. the d.a. says it could be harder now to seat a jury and the against claims it i don't make it difficult for her to get a fair trial. >> belmont police are warping residents of a package thief caught on security camera video. to happened on wednesday afternoon on waterloo court and it was posted on youtube. two other package thefts happened on the same day. police have not said if this man is a suspect in all of the

thefts. he is described as light skinned, medium height and weight and short doctor hair and hairing a white t-shirt and jeans. >> santa cruz police believe a prostitute accused in 9 death of a google executive who died of heroin overdose was on-line looking for legal defense tips. alix tichleman faces manslaughter charges stemming from the death of forrest hayes in november. he was 51 and died on his yacht after surveillance video showed alix tichleman injecting him with heroin and leaving him to die when he lost consciousness. police are examining a similar case involving alix tichleman in georgia. he died two months earlier, she called 9-1-1 in that case. >> tell me what happened? >> i don't know, i think my boyfriend overdosed or something, he will not respond. >> just looking at the same

his ex-wife the sister of the mother he murdered. >> heartbreaking to no one someone is filled with so much anger they take it out on kids. >> he is charged with capital murder. there were a lot of wanting signs. in 2008 his wife smiled domestic abuse saying he dragged her by the hair and repeatedly punched her. >> woke up the children and did it in front of the children. >> his wife filed a restraining order five years later. >> she said she feared for her lie. >> last week, he took his mother and choked her and threatened to kill her for speaking to his ex-wife. everyone is gone but one, 15-year-old who was shot in the head, layed dead and somehow managed to call 9-1-1. >> i said i was sorry about everything that has happened but i a thankful you are here with us. >> 15-year-old is in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

haskell is held without bond. we have breaking news in oakland where a man is in custody after police say he set a small fire inside a terminal at oakland international airport. the man is in his 60's was arrested by alameda county sheriff after a t.s.a. agent spotted him setting a fire in a trash can at terminal one. he now is arrested. the fire caused no damage to the airport and we understand this are no negative impacts to the operations of the airport. we do have a reporter headed to the scene with a report in a little while. stay with abc7 news. follow us on twitter. >> the first recount in the election begins and it could be expensive. former assembly speaker was 481 vote behind second-place

highway 101 with details posted on our website at abc7news.com. >> the on again off again construction of the $210 million freeway project is back on. caltran is building a $6 million bypass around willis in mendocino county. the project has been out of compliance with the environmental permit for almost a year. three weeks ago the army corps ordered caltran to stop building in wetlands areas. caltran threatened to shut down the entire project and lay off 100 people. a congressman huffman and thompson brokered a deal. >> we want caltran to comply with the permit and clean water act but we want to make sure you do not have thousands and thousands of extra costs incurred each day. >> the two agencies agreed on terms to make sure they comply with the orange guidelines. failure to meet the new deadline means an automatic suspension of

toyota truck. woman is still in the hospital. this morning, oakland police are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a man and injured another at a fast food restaurant. it was before 9:00 last night at wendy's on international boulevard a man was placing an order at the driver law and the gunman walked up and began shooting. the driver was killed. another perch in the car was injured but will survive. police are asking any ones to come forward. >> santa rosa police are resuming search for a suspect they believe was wounded during an attempted jewelry store robbery. the attempted robbery took place yesterday afternoon when two remain as men entered the store, grabbed the america by her hair and the shooting began. the store owner is believed to have fired back hitting a suspect. >> i heard the owner of the store yelling at the people
