in vallejo where an officer shot a suspect and an unruly crowd forced an emergency call for back up. good evening. i'm ama dates. the shooting happened near mark avenue and leonard street. sergio joins us live from the vallejo police staigs -- police station with what happened. some tense moments. >> tense moments. i can tell you this is an investigation that is still very active. i was just told by a police sergeant that the officer involved in that shooting is current -- currently here at police headquarters being interviewed by investigators. this is a shooting that happened about 9:00 this evening. one person was transferred to the hospital. neighbors tell me off camera that young man was taken to john muir hospital.

there is no word on his condition or extent of his injuries. vallejo police called in for back up. when we arrived, we saw plenty of solano county sheriff deputies and california highway patrol officers. again no one was willing to give me details about what happened, but what i was able to gather from neighbors is that this person who was shot may have been armed. he was being chased by police and at least one officer opened fire. again, as i mentioned, this is still a very ago a tiff investigation. active investigation. there was basically tails we were able to piece together at the scene. the police department has yet to release an official statement about what all happened. reporting live at the vallejo police headquarters, abc7 news. >> thank you, sergio. stay with abc7 news. we will have updates on our website, abc7news.com and on the abc7 morning news at 4:30 a.m. the fighting between

israel and hamas persists despite international calls for a cease-fire. tonight there is growing concern about civilian casualties in gaza as thousands of palestinians and americans flee the northern part of the region. lilian kim joins us now with the latest. lilian? >> john kerry renewed an offer to help mediate a truce. the u.n secretary general called for a cease-fire and egypt continues to work behind the scenes. but neither side is ready to put an end to what is going on. the attacks keep coming and palestinians are fleeing northern gaza by the thousands. some are headed to the border. this convoy of 150 americans received permission from israel to flee. she is from baton rouge. she was in gaza to visit family. >> the bombs come randomly. you won't -- you wouldn't know where they were bombing. >> it has bombed palestinians, but no israelis thanks to the

israeli and palestinians are teetering on the edge of all out war. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> this marks the 6th day of an offensive that palestinian officials say has killed at least 160 people. the swell of violence follows the kidnapping and the murder of three israeli teenagers in the west bank last month. then on july 2nd a 16-year-old boy was abducted and killed. many believe his murder was in retaliation for the kidnappings. jewish extremists are suspected it in the boy's death. israel and hamas have been in regular conflict since the group was created in 1987 at the start of the first palestinian uprising against israeli occupation. new video out of argentina where riot police responded after vandals disrupted a world cup celebration. the soccer fans celebrated argentina's performance in the finals, but violence erupted. the chaos particular situation

to an illegal marijuana plot when his truck sparked the fire. it destroyed six structures and threatening 50 others. the fire charred six square miles and is 10% contained. the smoke has been charged with starting the fire and marijuana cultivation. palo alto police are investigating after a woman was reportedly groped and kissed by a stranger when she sat on a park bench. this is a police sketch of the suspect. the woman told police she was sitting in a park when a man approached her and asked if they could become good friends and kissed her neck. she was able to get away. investigators asked anyone with information to contact the palo alto police. two officers were hurt when they tried to arrest a shoplifter in santa row uh. santa rosa. it happened off 101. store employees spotted a man cutting open boxes. when officers tried to arrest him they say michael lee joseph started fighting them

and started to remove an officer's gun from the holster. police say he had a loaded hand gun. they say she convicted felon and had a warrant out against him. san francisco police are investigating a muni bus that left two people saying they were hurt. a car ran into a route 6 bus near market and van ness. the car then took off. the victims' injuries are not life-threatening. new details about the deadly accident on highway 17 early thursday morning. it involved a semitruck hauling dirt and 10 other cars. our media partner, the mercury news reports 25-year-old daniel mcgwire died when one of the trailers slid over the top of his car. seven other people were hurt in this accident. highway 17 near bear creek road was closed for 10 hours. the truck's driver who was not hurt said his brakes were smoking and didn't work. day two for high end san francisco retailers forced to

i'm ama dates. in tonight's headlines, breaking news. one man was taken to the hospital after an officer involved shooting in vallejo. it happened near mark avenue and griffin drive. no officers were hurt. continued israeli air raids have prompted thousands to flee their homes in gaza. a convoy of 150 americans was allowed to enter israel today. more than 160 palestinians have died and hundreds more have been injured.

israel and hamas have exchanged missal attacks since tuesday. there have been no deaths reported in israel. you. fairfield residents are back in their homes after a grassfire forced those living near beck avenue to evacuate around a 2:00 this afternoon. the fire burned about 15 acres and temporarily shutdown two lanes of traffic along highway 12 in solano county. fire officials say due to a lack of resources the fairfield fire department called cal fire to help knockdown the flames. two people died this weekend at one of the country's most popular national parks. lightning strikes killed a woman friday and a man yesterday at rocky mountain national park in colorado. yesterday lightning struck a man a in a wheelchair at a scenic over look. witnesses who were steps away tried to save him. >> something hit me in the head and i lost my vision and hearing for a solid 10 seconds. >> we turned around and assessed the situation and went over to the man that was down and his t-shirt was

burned. they were just trying to help him. >> this is the first time lightning was killed someone at the park since 2000. california lawmakers will travel to central america to meet with officials about the increase of migrants to the u.s., particularly unaccompanied minors. they will meet with the salvadoran and el salvador officials. it will give the delegation a look at the political, social and economic issues in those countries. a vast majority of central american immigrants settle in northern california. now to a big pot bust where agents say they seized 2800 marijuana plants and arrested a man. the napa special investigation bureau said it discovered several large scale outdoor growing operations including

donaldson loves to be center stage. he does really well in those situations. i think he will do really well. >> he has having a good time there. mo martin had never won on the tour. it came at the women's brit -- british open. martin uses a 3 wood from 240 yards out and this is her second shot on the par 518th. nearly rolls in for a double eagle. she settled for eagle that put her one under for the tournament. it is good for a one-stroke victory. next week the men have their british open. phil mickelson finished strong with a 65, but did not contend for the title. that went to justin rose who birdied five of the first nine holes. he too shot a 65 and finished 16 under for the tournament. good for a two-stroke victory. at the pga john deere classic he shot a 5 under 66 making

four birdies on the back 9. he holds off zach johnson who finished one stroke back. the win was worth $846,000. at the u.s. senior open, the chance to win if he can make this birdie putt on 18. he does not. he would go on to lose a three-hole playoff to colin montgomerie. monty sinks this par putt. he is the fifth to win the senior pga championship and the open the same year. stage nine of the tour de france and a 105-mile ride through the mountains was won by tony martin. the 29 yierld took the lead -- the 29-year-old took the leeld early. but there was a change in the overall lead. the world cup is finally over. they will do it again in four years in russia. it was fun, but i'm ready for some football now. pre-season is less than a month away. >> incredible. thank you so much.
