well, good monday morning to you. >> i'm devin guyer. we begin with the severe weather threat for millions of americans. a strong line of damaging storms from the mid-atlantic to the plains. >> the storms with powerful winds and downpours spanning multiple days. the powerful storm system already brought damaging winds to a ohio campground. >> they were down there digging through it, trying to find the guy. they finally got him out, put him on a back board. >> reporter: this semi truck flipped on its side near columbus. this man's friend and dog were trapped inside. >> i had to do my superman stuff. that's my pride and joy, my dog. >> reporter: power knocked out

evening. back to you. >> the high temps in washington state are not helping fire crews. they battle several spreading wildfires there. temperatures were 100 and over. thunderstorms in the north and central cascades could cause lightning strix potentially sparking new fires. severe weather in florida cut power to the monorail. there were thunderstorms when the elevated train stopped sunday afternoon. a mechanized lift helped get some passengers down. others were able to get out on their own. now to the escalating conflict in the middle east, on the brink of an all-out war. with both sides ignoring international calls for a cease-fire. >> hamas withstood more bombs overnight. >> tahman bradley is live with more. good morning, tahman. >> reporter: good morning,

reena. good morning, devin. this bombing is relentless. neither side is talking about backing down. israeli rockets rain down on gaza, thousands of palestinians are on the move. these ambulances carried injured palestinians into egypt. this convoy carries 150 americans trying to escape. >> the bombs would come randomly. >> reporter: at this school, classrooms are now shelters for the displaced. many people packing up and leaving after israel dropped leaflets saying they were going the bomb their neighborhoods. since the operations began nearly a week ago, the israelis have launched more than 1300 air strikes targeting hamas installations and their long-range rocket launchers. >> they're embedding these rockets that they're firing wholesale into our cities. terrorist rocketing trying to

a woman who lives near the airport took this photo because the plain was circling so low and made a loud noise. the pilot called air traffic control. >> flames are coming out of the number one engine. >> are you sure you saw flames? >> there was something going on over there. there's smoke. >> that fire shut down one of the engines and several tires blew out when the plane landed. fortunately, none of the 313 people on board were hurt. off the coast of italy now, the the "costa concordia" cruise ship is being refloated. it's being raised from the water. it will soon be towed to genoa. 32 people died when the ship ran aground and tipped over. an american couple were among the dead. sergeant bowe bergdahl is reportedly returning to active duty six weeks after being released by the taliban. he's finished therapy and

counsel following his five years of captivity. he's expected to go back to life as a regular soldier as early as today. he'll be working at a texas army base. he's expected to meet with military investigators. malala yousafzai is in nigeria where she's met with families of girls kidnapped by a terrorist group. she turned 17 on saturday. her birthday wish is to bring back our girls now and alive. she had this message for the relatives. >> you are really brave parents. really brave parents who have taken this step to speak up for their daughters and the the right of education. >> malala became an inspiration after being shot by the taliban for going to school. our own amy robach is with her for a special interview later on "good morning america." well, this morning, germany is set to be waumd home as world cup champion soccer team.

>> the germans won their fourth ever world cup yesterday, beating argentina 1-0. the first ever european team to win a trophy when the tournament was held in the americas. massive gatherings in berlin and just about every other city. >> things went wrong in argentina's capital. police broke up a public rally in support of argentina's team. a group of vandals was blamed for the violence. dozens of people were arrested. around 20 officers were injured. coming up, the amount of time diners spend at restaurants has nearly doubled in ten years. caught on camera, shots ringing out on a crowded street. new meaning to car pool. hear from the man who jumped into action and saved the driver.

memorial for her parents and four siblings. >> i know that my mom, dad, brian, emily, becca, and zach, are in a much better place. and that i'll be able to see them again one day. >> police say haskell killed the family because they wouldn't tell him where to find his ex-wife. cassidy played dead, then called 911. haskell surrendered after a three-hour standoff with police. a man in connecticut is in custody facing a string of charges after a wild shootout that was caught on tape. [ gunfire ] that happened early yesterday morning outside a nightclub in stamford, connecticut. the man seen firing in the video was arrested soon after. five people were wounded in the incident. none suffered life-threatening wounds. the suspect's mother claims the shooting took place after her son was jumped in the club. one of the young women held captive in a cleveland house of horrors for a decade is taking another step toward a normal life.

michele knight says she's changed her name to lily rose lee. she is not a celebrity and gets annoyed when people want to snap her picture without asking first. a dramatic rescue escape in the french alps. a father and his kids narrowly dodged death on a snowy mount n mountain. patrick sweeney was swept up in an avalanche along with his 9-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter. the kids were trying to become the youngest to scale the area known as the corridor of death. this mishap is the focus of parents allowing children to take too many risks. >> i was pretty scared. i was sort of stuck, because shannon and i were on each other. so, it was hard to get up at first. >> both kids were tethered to their dad. they were able to bury his ax to keep the family from sliding down further. quite a scene from a pool party over the weekend.

near cleveland. take a look at this. a jeep at the bottom of the pool after crashing through the fence. one of the the guys who jumped into the the water was forced into action and came to the rescue. >> everyone is screaming, go saver that woman, save that woman. i swim over to the jeep right there. there's a woman. she had the safety belt on. i pulled her out of the vehicle. threw her on to the deck. >> thankfully, she didn't suffer any injuries. her jeep was lifted out of the water. it remains unclear why the whole incident took place. and we mentioned the world cup earlier and the fact that it's party time in germany. >> how did they do it? highlights now from our man at espn. welcome inside "sportscenter." i'm robert flores. brazil did not have a chance to win the world cup finals on sunday. having been eliminated by germany 7-1 in the semis. on sunday, most brazilians found themselves rooting for germany to deny their bitter rival, argentina, in the title game. here we go.

more hours and are busy with the investigation. we we are at an apartment building in vallejo, a woman in her 50's was shot can kill on the balcony of an apartment unit in the building and police arrested a man who lived here. witnesses say after he shot the woman he then opened fire in front of the apartment building. a woman and a child were sitting in a car and we toll the child was hurt by flying glass. the man yell a racial slur at the woman and child before he started shooting. we told the woman and the child are black. the suspect is white. this happened at 10:30 last night in vallejo. miss have not said what the motive was behind the attacks. a captain hopes to brief us soon. right now the captain is inside the crime tape busy trying to
