good afternoon, everyone. i'm larry beal. >> and i'm cheryl jennings. a slew of shootings have outraged neighbors. >> they went to city hall to deal with it. >> vic has more. >> reporter: that group held a rally here on the steps of city hall. they're at the border hoping to get support to end all of this senseless violence and for many of them it is truly a matter of life or death. >> it's time to stop the killing and start the healing. >> yes, yes. >> i want to hear you say it. >> reporter: community activists from the bay view gathered at

city hall to ask for help. more police patrols, more monies to fund projects for kids and more help to find the killers. >> i want the city to put in surveillance cameras, quality surveillance cameras across all the public housing, all the recreational facilities and public facilities. >> reporter: it started june 27th with the shooting death of a former gang member who was trying to turn his life around. the murder happened in front of dozens of children including his 10-year-old son. then over five dares during the july 4th holiday weekend, nearly a dozen people were shot. five died. >> fourth of july weekend. what kind of independence is that? you tell me. the fourth of july. what kind of independence is that? >> reporter: paul will brown was at the rally. her son was shot eight years ago. she still doesn't know who killed him. brown takes every shooting personally. >> when we hear of another young man or girl getting murdered it

makes us relive our children's deaths. >> reporter: the group wants mayor ed lee to act immediately to stop the violence. he responded this way. >> i'll definitely take on the demands of these residents, and we'll be down there trying to implement as many as we can. >> reporter: in the meantime many in the bay view are frustrated and angry and wondering when the next shoot willing come. vic lee, abc 7 news. two men who are accused of having gotten into a fight at a game and hitting a woman appeared in court today. they pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault. investigators say they approach add drunk man and woman outside the at&t park add got into a fight. rucker is accused of punching the female but they say they instigated the confrontation and rutgers turn and hit the woman by state. happening in sacramento right now, regulators are

abc 7 news. nestle is bottling water from one of the driest areas in california and some folks are not too happy about it. according to the desert sun newspaper, the company has been trucking away undisclosed amounts of water from a plant in riverside county for its arrowhead and pure life brands of water but the plant is located on an indians reservation. nestle leases the property from the tribe which is a sovereign nation, so it's exempt from oversight by local water agencies and does not face the same reporting requirements. one of the first steps to conserving water is to figure out how much you use every day. >> we have a link at abc 7.com. >> several parts of the bay got sprinkles this morning. this is what it looked like on alameda and west julian streets. very light rain, but at least something. >> a lot more clouds.

spencer christian here with an accuweather update. hi, spencer. >> reporter: hi, there. i'm sorry those sprinkles are about all you're going to see for a while. you can see clouds of moisture moving to our north right now. we still have high clouds over much of the bay area, but the clouds that are more dense and have greater moisture content are up to our north. speaking of moisture, how about the outbreak of thunderstorms over the central sierra. we've had over 2,700 lightning strikes today, many of them in the last couple of hours, and there is a flash flood warning in effect for the northwestern corner of yosemite national park until 5:15, just over an hour from now. it's an indication of how heavy the downpours have been that have accompanied these thunderstorms. meanwhile we see lots of high clouds, a little bit of fog drifting out over the bay. our first forecast is this. we'll see high clouds and coastal fog this evening. lingering overnight it will be a

mild night with temperatures ranging from mid-50s to mid-60s. and by afternoon tomorrow we'll be looking at similar conditions to what we've had today. partly cloudy, muggy once again, highs ranging from the 50s at the coast to the 80s. we'll have more in my later the officers shut this down earlier this afternoon because they had fluid leaking from an ecology truck. they're mopping up the mess. san francisco firefighters sprayed foam on the flannel liquid. it stretched along 200 yards of the roadway. two minor earthquakes hit the south bay, southeast of gilroy. the first was 3.2 that hit around 1:09 p.m. there was a 3.0 quake a minute later. no damage reported. if you felt shaking around

gilr gilroy, that might explain it. the city of san francisco has kicked off a six-month pilot program to help clean up human waste. they'll provide portable toilets and sinks in three locations. the program is going to cost $150,000. to try to keep the toilets from being drug places, they get a five-minute courtesy knock. >> we'll have someone there the entire time. we hope that works. we'll have posted rules. we know we'll have challenges. if we have to pivot, we will. >> there will be places to post needles and dog waste in the facilities. it will be open from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. when a lot of outreach areas are closed from the day. the toilets are to help everyone, the kids who are walking home from school to the homeless who need a place to go. this contract guarantees a 14.25% raise over three years. it does require payments to

66 at half moon bay. notice most of the clouds are up north now. we have current temperature readers of 81 at santa rosa. mid-80s at novato, fairfield, and concorde. still pretty warm in the inland east bay. with see clouds over the golden gate bridge as we take a look at our forecast futures. the muggy pattern will hold on for days. it will be left humid on thursday and friday. yay. turning warmer this weekend. i guess that deserves a yay as well. the radar shows why we've had the muggy pattern. because of the combined circulation around this center of high pressure to our east and the center of low pressure offshore pulling up this monsoonal moisture from the southwestern states into not only the bay area but basically all of california. so the flow of high clouds and moisture will continue during

the overnight hours as you see here. but the clouds will thin out by tomorrow giving us a sunnier day. still a bit muggy, but it will be sunnier at least and that's one day ahead of the drop in humidity. overnight, look for mild conditions with low temperatures mainly in the low 60s and tomorrow in the south bay. mostly sunny with a few high clouds. highs in the low to mid-80s. 81 at san jose on peninsula. we'll see mainly sunny skies with a few high clouds from 75 at san mateo. mid-60s on the coast at pacifica and half moon bay. downtown san francisco will have a high of 67. up in the north bay, the clouds will be a little bit thicker. we'll see highs ranging from 79. 81 at napa. east bay highs mainly low to mid-70s. farther south at union city in fremont and in the inland east bay we'll see highs generally in the upper 80s.

fighting between israel and

hamas quickly ended in failure. israel resumed its air attacks today in response to a barrage of rocket attacks. abc news reporter karen travers with the latest on the israel crisis. >> reporter: israel said hamas would pay the price for rejecting a cease-fire. but it was a vague threat. israel's prime minister provided no details on exactly what that means. he did not address a potential ground offensive in gaza. the indications that the violence could escalate happened just hours after israel saidet had accepted an egyptian cease-fire proposal but hamas never got on board. in fact, while israelis held their fire for about six hours this morning hamas launched more than 100 rockets into israel. the israelis said that left them with no choice and they resumed their air strikes in gaza. today the first israeli casualty

after more than a week of fighting. man was killed by a mortar shell when he tried to deliver food to soldiers. palestinian officials says the death toll in gaza is nearly 200. the obama administration today urged hamas to accept the cease-fire. >> that would be a way to quickly de-escalate it and store some calm to the area. >> reporter: president obama said further escalation would not benefit either side and reiterated the support for israel's action. >> i will say very clearly no country can accept rockets fired indiscriminately at citizens. >> reporter: it urged them to stop firing rockets and accept a cease-fire to restore some calm to the region. karen travers, abc news, washington. they're dismissing trichlt for the derailment in moscow.

officials originally complain thad a power surge triggered the alarm and caused the train to stop abruptly. they're looking into whether there was a problem in one of the railcars or a rail had sunk. a pulitzer prize-winning journalist has been released. we have a video of jose antonio vargas being detained today at an airport in mcalan. they say vargas did not have proper documentation. he was drawn to the flight of the immigrant children and families coming into the u.s. illegally. vargas came to the u.s. from philippines in 1992 at the age of 12 without the proper documentation. >> the united states of america is better than this. our nation's border crisis took center stage today at city hall.

two young children near houston, texas, are okay thanks to the actions of good samaritans. passers by grabbed hammers and broke into the jeep after hearing cries from them. the temperatures outside soared into the 90s. it turns out the kids' mother left them in the vehicle while she got her hair cut. she begged the rescuers not to call police. they did not. after she admit thted that she e a terrible mistake. another group of bystanders came to the aid of a woman being

c carjacked. he tried to drive off with a woman and child inside. the good samaritan struggled to southbound due the man. they're working him over here. he was identified as ishmael hernandez. a police officer arrived. still hernandez would not go quietly. he turned o ee eed out this was first time carjacking. >> it's not my first time. >> right. right about that. >> well, the good news is the woman and the child were not hurt. witnesses say hernandez had been drinking heavily before this incident. he's now been charged with carjacking. >> wow. well, for the first time in 30 years the federal government is issuing new guidelines to protect pregnant workers from on-the-job discrimination. the update makes it illegal for employers to discriminate or harass pregnant workers in any form. the guidelines were last updated in 1983. the issues gained increasing
