>> as fighting in gaza escalates tonight there was a wharf words in san francisco between protesters on both sides of the on going battle in the middle east. good evening. i'm ama dates. tonight the crisis in the middle east is escalating. this is a live look we are going to show you now in gaza. you can see the pillar of black smoke rising into the air from some type of explosion. more than 430 palestinians and 20 israelis have died in the past two weeks. two americans have been killed. both were soldiers for the israel defense force. one was from texas, and the other, 24-year-old max steinburg was from the san fernando valley. hamas claims it captured an israeli soldier. today a bloody ground battle

was fought in a neighborhood where israel says militants were launching rockets. the u.n security council held an emergency session and expressed serious concern about the rising civilian death toll. the violence in the middle east has sparked protests here in san francisco. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is in the newsroom with more on today's demonstrations. lilian? >> ama, things got pretty tense, especially when groups on opposite sides of the issue >> they came within inches of one another and at one point surrounded palestinian supporters. the diewlg protests -- dualing protests took place in san francisco. where a quiet solidarity protest took a backseat to the protest outside. >> it is showing we support our country and support our

people no matter what happens. >> i support israel. they are right and they have a great cause. hamas is a stris -- a terrorist organization. >> the counter demonstrators say not all jews feel the same way. these palestinian supporters are jewish too. >> we condemn what is happening in gaza. it is against our jewish values. it is being done in our name and it is heartbreaking to us. >> across town there was a large demonstration at justin herman plaza. >> we need to be able to understand that we are complicit to our tax dollars through what we purchase and we want to say that we are not okay with that. >> i just want to tell the u.s. government no matter what money they are spending to commit genocide in gaza is not in my name. >> strong emotions half a world away from the conflict.

lilian kim, abc7 news. >> a gaza boy who received a prosthetic leg in the bay area lost that leg this week as a result of fighting there. he is 15. this is video of him learning to walk with a new prosthetic leg last year. he was hurt with a missal hit his house during fighting in 2006. this week his prosthetic was destroyed in an attack. >> we escaped from my house and we run on glass and stones and on the street. >> the palestine children's relief fund which first helped him in 2006 now plans to bring him back to the united states to replace his prosthetic leg. >> the u.n security council could vote calling for international access to the crash site of the malaysia airlines jet in the ukraine. russia's ambassador says his government isn't happy about the wording. it calls on ukrainian rebels

to allow investigators to access the crash site. something president obama and australia's prime minister says must happen. senator feinstein says countries need to stand up to russia and demand answers. turning to our weather, and a rare summer rain. it was only a few drops, but rain did fall today across the state. this is our eleven look outside and it is dry now, but there could be more rain overnight. let's head to spencer christian for a first check on weather and live doppler 7hd. >> take aing a look, you can see there are areas of moisture moving through the bay area, pockets of moisture. the more significant activity is near sacramento where a cell is pushing through the area right now. even though it looks impressive here, only the sacramento airport is reporting rainfall right now. vacaville and fairfield and other locations in solano county are not reporting rain just yet. you can see pockets of moisture across parts of sonoma county and napa county and even marin county.

we have no reports from these areas yet of rainfall hitting the ground. there is certainly moisture in the atmosphere. 2 has not materialized as rain, but we are hoping for a little bit that's all we can expect. i will show you a dryer x warmer forecast later on in the week in a few minutes. ama? >> spencer, thank you. the rain was stronger in the sierra. in reno, people got drenched. it rained so much intersections across the city were flooded. and rain along highway 89 near lock tahoe, lots of rain and wet roads. tonight more rain is expected in the area. tonight police are investigating two suspicious deaths in sausalito. the bodies were found in a home after reports of gunfire. nick smith joins us live from the scene with more. nick? >> i can confirm that both bodies were handed to the coroner, but it may be days before authorities have an official answer as to what happened in that house behind me.

>> just before 3:00 a.m. they found two bodies in this upscale sausalito home after responding to a neighbor's report of gunfire. >> loud popping noises. it was several in rapid success. >> a prominent north bay real for has lived on this street for years. she heard the shots and knew instipg sighly that -- instinctively that something was wrong and she made the call to 9-1-1. >> they were here rapidly. >> the house is tucked behind heavy brush and it is easy to miss if not for crime scene investigators moving in and out and collecting evidence. police are tight lipped about what they found and a possible motive. >> i have no other information other than we are investigating two deaths. as soon as we have something to give to you, we will let you know. >> sources tell me that the incident that lead police to what they are calling a suspicious death investigation was contained to this home. police confirmed that there is

no threat to the community and that the crime is not connected to anything else they are investigating. we have also learned that the two bodies found inside are adults. a woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s. police would not confirm the method which they were killed. sherry is ready to put the entire day behind her. >> i am glad it is an isolated event and that we are safe. it is sad for all of us. >> a coroner's report is expected on tuesday. providing police with an official cause of death for both victims. nick smith, abc7 news. a 9-year-old girl was shot while playing in lowell park. it happened after 5:00. a group of men fired shots at each other and the girl was hit. she is expected to survive. >> a two of h alarm fire leaves people without a home. it broke out before 5:30 at an apartment building in san

lorenzo. alameda county fire say the flames moved quickly into the attic. a few firefighters almost fell through the roof, but managed to get themselves to safety. one resident said the fire broke out right after she got home. >> in less than three minutes i heard the firecrackers and then i heard crack lig outside and right to the front door. seen the neighbor come down and ask for a fire distinguisher. we went out the glass door to see what was going and we seen the flames shooting into his apartment. >> the cause has not yet been determined. the building is too damaged for anyone to be inside. the red cross is helping the families who live there. the family of a uc berkeley student who drowned in a texas lake last weekend is raising money to pay for divers to look for his body. the 20-year-old sophomore drowned in about a hundred feet of water last saturday evening. diver frtz sheriff's department haven't been able to find his body. the family has asked a florida team to look, but it is

expensive. it is about $15,000. so far the family has raised about $4,000. two people were hurt after their car rolled down a steep hill in lot gas -- los gatos. a man and woman were in a ford fusion when the man lost control and the car went over the edge. they needed a chp helicopter to get the couple out. they had to repel down and carry up the woman before taking her to the hospital. more than 40 police officers put on leave after a shootout with suspected it bank robbers in stockton returned to work today. the suspect who survived the shootout is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. police say 19-year-old jaime ramos on the right used 41-year-old misty sing as a human shield. investigators say they suspect the same men carried out other bank heists including one earlier at the same branch hit this week. still to come on abc news

good at a landmark restaurant in san francisco. the customers enjoyed one last meal tonight. antonio acardo opened the restaurant with his wife, julia, in 1955. back then it was one of the few restaurants on irving street. they are now in their invests and say they are -- in that i 70s and are ready to retire. they marked the anniversary with is a giant birthday party. they say it was the birthday of some popular ice cream flavors including toasted almond and swiss milk chocolate and rocky road. spencer and i decided we will take any one of those flavors. he is here now with a look at our weather. >> you are making me hungry. here is live doppler 7hd. we have pockets of moisture moving through the bay area. we may get sprinkles, widely scattered sprinkles and more concentrated rainfall is over

the sacramento area and pushing into, well, the moisture is pushing into solano county. it looks impressive and we don't have reports of rainfall hitting the ground. this is looking westward across the bay. it is a rather uniform low to mid60s at san carlos, gilroy and half moon bay. a live view at the golden gate bridge which looks rather clear. we have high clouds over the golden gate. further temperature readings low to mid60s in santa rosa and napa and novato and livermore. on we go to a live view of the portion of the downtown skyline of san francisco from our exploratorium camera. you can see a little moisture in the atmosphere and some of the high and midlevel clouds in the background. these are our forecast features. it is mostly cloudy and mild. it is partly to mostly cloudy and turning mostly sunny and then a warmer pattern developing by thursday. it will be quite a warm pattern and that will continue to the weekend.

satellite-radar composite shows moisture winding its way through the bay area and parts of the central valley is moving westward from the sierra where today we had an outbreak of violent thunderstorms. during the overnight hours we will see high clouds and moist tour continue -- continuing to pass through. and moving northward by midday tomorrow leaving us with dryer air and a less humid feeling and a dryer pattern for the days ahead. mild under cloudy conditions and low temperatures in the low 60s. in the south bay mainly sunny skies by the afternoon and highs in the upper 70s to the low 80s. on the peninsula, highs of seftd 4 san -- 74 san mateo. half moon bay and downtown san francisco will see a high of 68 tomorrow, 66 in the sunset district. north bay look for highs under haze a econ decisions in the midto upper 70s and mainly low to mid70s in the east bay and in the inland east bay low to mid80s. especially out toward antioch

lead into the final round rory mcilroy held off a pair of challengers to win his first british open. let's go to royal liverpool. no golfer had ever blown a six-stroke lead in the final round. mcilroy got off to a fast start on the first hole and rolls in this long birdie and shot a 71 today. sergio garcia made it interesting with a 66. this eagle on 10 got him to within two shots of the lead. on 15 he fails to get out of one of those deep bunkers. that would pretty much end his chances. rickie fowler hung around, but never made a serious charge. he finishes tied for second with garcia. on the final hole and rory putting for birdie and it is just to the left. no problem though. he taps in for par and still wins by two. he gets a hug from his mother. mcilroy joins tyinger and jack nicklaus as a player to win three majors by age 25. now he just needs a win at the

lighter winds are forecast in wildfire-stricken washington state this week which could help firefighters battle fires that have destroyed more than 150 homes so far. more than a dozen fires are burning right now across the northwest. abc news reporter with the latest. >> inch by inch, these are the men and women on the front lines creating a perimeter around the wildfire that has been burning out of control for nearly a week. >> we are trying to protect this side of the orchard so it doesn't blow up on us. >> what was started by four fires exploded into one large monster fire. consuming at least 237,000 acres. and despite an allout assault from the air and 1300 firefighters on the ground, flames continue to run wild, burning more than 150 homes. >> very volatile in all of of these areas. >> this drone video captures the massive devastation from the raging fires. and at the command center, they are now relying heavily

crashed into the live power lines. it caused two explosions in clinton, massachusetts last night. the f.a.a. says the balloon was carrying six people and five were taken to the hospital suffering burns and some serious. the company that operates the balloon rides has not commented. most of us use facebook to connect with friends and family. recently one kentucky woman unknowingly used it to connect with police. the woman on the right posted these sell fee -- selfies showing off her new leopard print dress. the problem is she stole it. they posted a picture of the thief after reviewing security footage and in the small town it didn't take long to realize the new dress was stolen. >> her excuse was there was nobody in here. we were in the back working. she just took it. not an excuse there. >> looking in the background of the photograph we were able to pinpoint where she was at. >> police say she had the clothes in her hands a when they showed up.

coach walsh and others that are in the hall of fame. it is special. they say you should never follow a legend, but he did just that replacing bill walsh. >> when i worked for bill as an assistant, that was precious. i would not have wanted it any other way. i developed most as a coach during that period. probably the most enjoyable was working with bill. >> he will be inducted on november 2nd against the rams. >> they were always our big rival when i was here. even when i was a kid we couldn't seem to beat them. then we had a long run where we dominated the series. >> the arena league action. san jose struck first. these cats had no soul. white with the touchdown catch.
