northbound 101 at the border of santa clara and sunnyvale. this is the third person killed in an accident in that area in less than a week. katie marzullo is on the scene with what happened. katie? good morning, matt, the seen is clear now. it is too familiar of a scene. the c.h.p. says the post recent fatal crash happened at midnight a late model convertible corvette. two people were inside and both were wearing seatbelts. the passenger, if his 40's, died at scene and the driver was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. there were no other cars involved, the driver hid a curve at great america parkway too fast and according to witnesses the car wrecked dramatically. based on eyewitnesses, they observed the collision and it sounds like they overturned four or five times and hit the

roadway. >> that was on tuesday, a motorcyclist who c.h.p. said was speeding on the on-ramp at great america parkway crashed into the back of a big rig and was thrown from the motorcycle and run over and on friday a car rolled and hit the ditch on the express way an exit north killing a young woman and the c.h.p. says no one in the car was wearing the seatbelt and drinking was likely involved. we do not know in the accident this morning if drink was involved but speed appears to be a contributing factor and they were able to re-open the northbound lane at 3:00 this morning. thank you, breaking news an airplane has vanished while flying over west africa. the airplane was flying to algiers and lost contact with traffic control 15 minutes after take off. on board, 110 passengers and six

blankets, maybe to conceal the children, i don't know or to keep the heat out of the car. employees at the casino estimate the kids were in this for 30 minutes. police do not know if phaley nget has left them in the car before this at the casino. this happened on sunday night around 6:00. her kids are new in protective custody and phaley nget is held on $100,000 bail and scheduled to appear in court today. new details this morning of a sunnyvale man shot to delegate by police who wanted to ask about a missing girlfriend. he was shot by officers with went to the house union 5th and pointed a weapon that was a bb gun. the san jose mercury news said between 2003 and 2006 the 53-year-old lived at the home where three women all of whom died under mysterious circumstances. officials say the latest

girlfriend has been missing for a year. palo alto police are looking for a missing man with dementia, in his 70's, last seen walking away from stanford hospital after he received the discharge miles per hours. he is 5' 8" tall and 150 pounds. he was seen wearing a black coat with a hood and blue unions and -- blue jeans and a blue and white striped shirt. >> a preliminary hearing is scheduled for two machine accused of getting into a fight and hitting a woman at a giants and a's game this month. the two men pleaded not guilty last week to charms of aggravated assault. they approached a man and a drunk woman outside the at&t park and got in a fight. one punched the female. the confrontation was not a result of a rivalry between

covering san rafael, south bay, pleasanton and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. a man facing weapons charges accused of turning the bicycle into a homemade shotgun. the 46-year-old man mounted a metal pipe on the bicycle handle bars and there was a shotgun shell with a bb taped to the end the he had a hammer in the backpack. the hammer could have been used to hit the bb causing the shell to fire. an investigation is underway after a loaded shotgun was found at an elementary school found by throw children at day catch at lincoln elementary on west 9th. the kids looks for marbles and found the gun and it was likely left there by a gang member. indiana teen and his father have been killed while on around the world flight after the plane went down after take off a mile from the airport in american samoa. the body of the 17-year-old haris, high school was recovered

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> happy friday at 5:29. a nice way of saying that it is thursday. of course, this is a night way of saying it will be hot today. we are warming up. >> turning up the heat. >> we have desert heat headed our way. good morning, everyone, look what happened while we were sleeping. it is dry. we have a thin veil of clouds along the coast and develop along the east bay shore. they will not last very long. in fact, they will only be around until about 10:00. hopefully we will not have delays at sfo. we will keep an eye on it. total sunshine to the coast is 69 to 76 into downtown san francisco. around the bay, 78 to 88 and strong sunshine and we hit 87 to 96 inland.

get ready, this is day one. certainly no delays if you are headed to sfo or oakland or san jose. we are looking at clear conditions and accident free. we have areas of construction and congestion. the construction eastbound 80 from marine street to the hoffman split a cone zone is there so slow down. we have a buildup of traffic approaching the toll plaza at richmond and san rafael but then it is only five minutes. the dive through berkeley from albany to emeryville is clear. traffic at 580 westbound tracy to dublin is 38 minutes along highway 4 is clear in 101 in the north bay from marin to san francisco at 17 minutes. we want to talk about a fatal crash on 101 in santa clara the third fatal in that area the past week.

all lanes now are open. all three crashes the c.h.p. says speed appears to have been a factor and all three happened in the early morning hours but there are unique circumstances when it comes to each individually. this happened around midnight northbound 101, a late model corvette was the only car involved. witnesses say the corvette flipped four or five times and slid across the lanes on its roof. it landed right side up. c.h.p. found two inside both wearing seatbelts. the passenger died at scene and the driver has life threatening injuries and was taken to stanford. speed was a factor in the collision. it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor. the other two accidents:

fuse, a motorcyclist was speeding on the on-ramp at the great america parkway and crashed into a big rig and was run over by several other cars. last friday, a car rolled and crashed into a ditch one exit north of this area and a woman was killed if that accident. the c.h.p. says no one was wearing a seatbelt and drinking was involved. three deadly citizens. three different circumstances. all bad. the lanes at 101 this morning opened three hours after the accident before 3:00 in the morning. our other breaking news story, another passenger jet has disappeared in africa. an air algerie vanished from radar flying over west africa. french secretary of transport saying it disappeared over

his attorney is expected to file a motion to have his client freed from jail where he has been locked up since april. the former gangster faces charges after he was tied to state senator yee's corruption case. he was denied bail because he was considered a danger to the community. the san francisco park commission is recommending areal of a $15 million settlement for the family of a young mother killed after being run offer by a city worker. that is according to the "san francisco examiner" which needs to be approved by the board of supervisors the 35-year-old mother was run over last september while she was sunbathing at a park with her baby and small dog. the garden neither faces felony charges of vehicle already manslaughter and hit and run.

covering santa rosa, berkeley, san jose and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. the building that houses san francisco's flower mart is changing hands and san francisco business times says they have reached a $27 million deal to buy the site which is owned by the san francisco flower growers association. there is no word on wall happen to the 58-year-old flower mart or the vendors. they specialize in office development and should close by the end of the year. >> a bay area delegation is going to colorado springs to meet with united states olympic committee leadership about a

potential bid for the 2024 summer games. the representatives from san francisco and los angeles and boston and washington, dc, are attending an information session tomorrow where they will give details of a bid. giants c.e.o. and mayoral assistant and venture capitalist are among the group representing san francisco at the meeting. the city is still in the exploration process of whether to make a bid. the committee will not decide until next year whether to bid for the 2024 games. >> raiders and 49ers have recorded for the start of training camp and will hold a first practice tomorrow in napa and this morning the 49ers hit the field for the first practice. davis reported to camp yesterday ending the hold out and t.j. spillman reported the reunion between davis and the teammates. he wants a new contract. >> the players took part in the pasta bowl which marks the beginning of training camp.
