live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. a c.h.p. chase of a reckless driver ends in a dramatic take down by officers this morning on highway 880 in oakland. officers say the driver hit at least two cars before they stopped him. thanks for joining us. >> the pursuit happened during the height of the commute in the east bay. this is what it did to traffic. look at this mess! that pursuit was left behind hours of waiting ending before 9:00 a.m. and nick joins us with the story. traffic just started to clear. that is because of the police take down a few seconds ago.

look at this video. you can see c.h.p. officers pulling the suspect from the vehicle and literally tasing him to subdue him. this is what we know: c.h.p. got a call at 8:30 this morning of a reckless driver on northbound 880 at interstate 238 in hayward. callers said the driver was weaving in and out of lanes. then c.h.p. got calls that the drive hit other cars and kept going. c.h.p. says other drivers were calling with make, model and color of the car. it took no time for officers to find the driver. >> we heard the sirens. here come a little blue car turning in front of us and he counteracted and rather than going right he slammed into the wall. c.h.p. ran in front of him, drove in front of him. they stopped him from moving further. they jumped out. he smashed the window. >> the guy resisted.

it took multiple officers to get him subdued. these was transferred to the hospital for evaluation. >> we know the officers tazed the suspect. the driver is 32 years old from union city. officers have not said if they have been able to recover drugs or weapons. they do not know if he is the owner of the crash car the c.h.p. is getting calls saying the cars on the freeway were hit or sideswiped by the driver but so far there have been no reports of physical injuries to victims, only property damage. they are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything this morning contact oakland c.h.p. and provide information. we do know the suspect is expected to be booked this morning. i will have a report today at 4:00 and 6:00 on the latest in the investigation. developing news, international aircraft problems,

a passenger plane disappeared, air algerie vanished from radar this morning. 116 were on board. matt is in the newsroom with the latest. >> this is the third deadly commercial air crash in seven days. this was last seen on radar over northern mali50 minutes after take off from ouagadougou airport. the search is northwest africa. it is the same type of plane used for flight 5017. the private airline has not been possible to make contact with the plane and was trying to figure what happened. france's transport minister asked air control to change the route because of the weather. heavy rain was reported in the area. half of the 110 passengers were french. swiss air says there were two pilots and four cabin staff.

the flight probably crashed with no trace found of the plane. two french fighter jets are among the aircraft hooking through the area north of mali which is rugged. a french official says it is unlikely fighters would have the kind of weapons capable of shooting down a plane. new this morning the remains of the victims from malaysian flight 17 are arriving in the netherlands. two planes carrying 74 coffins touched down in eindhoven a week since it was shot down killing all 298 people over ukraine mostly dutch. it could take weeks or months to identify all the remains. both russia and the ukraine deny any direct involvement in the missile attack. >> large explosions and huge plumes of smoke fill the air in gaza city as israel forces

continue to pound the gaza strip. neither side appears to be backing down in the middle of efforts to broker a peace deal as palestinian officials say israeli tank shells hit a u.n. school killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens more. israel says rockets launched by hamas landed in the area and could be responsible for the destruction. the f.a.a. has lifted the ban on united states flights into the main airport in tel aviv in israel. the ban was ordered after a rocket blast near ben gurion international airport on tuesday. all airlines that fly to israel from the united states, men, us airways, united and delta will resume service today. a driver in san jose booked on hit-and-run charges, evading police and drug possession. police found something in the trunk of the car. in was a three car accident at 7:30 this morning after trying to outrun the police. two people ended up in the

hospital with moderate injuries. the third driver was not injured. they found illegal narcotics in the trunk of the car. san jose arson are looking for the cause of a suspicious fire at davis immediate school. katie marzullo has the latest on the investigation. >> crews rolled out an hour ago after shoring up the fire damage on the corner of the building and school officials have put up this fencing to keep people out but the area is stabilized. the superintendent of the district says there are summer programs happening on campus but not impacted. they are on the other side of the campus. the real will be fixed in time for back-to-school which is august 18. fire investigators have homework. 5:30 in the morning in the middle of summer should be a very quiet time on a middle school campus but not the case at davis immediate school in san jose today. >> crews rushed to the scene after a neighbor reported seeing smoke. sure enough, flames erupted on

the roof of a room. >> this is 100' by 250'. we had a lot of smoke coming from the willing. >> firefighters had the fire knocked down in 20 minutes and were able to save most of the furniture and other contents. they kept the fire from spreading to the rest of the building. investigators say the fire started on the roof and because it was after hours with no obvious heat source it is suspicious. >> a fire at educational facilities require extensive investigation. we the cause is "undetermined." an investigators says in the last month or so there have been two other fires here, one in a trash can. the cause is undetermined. the other was on the roof. he said if that case there were smoking materials found at the scene. the san francisco flower mart will soon have a new owner, the market is a rarity in the country and a gem in the city.

after a wild chase unfolding in front of tv news cameras in golden, west of denver, yesterday afternoon. the deputy stopped the man and woman acting suspiciously while driving and the deputy went to a squad car to check the driver's information and they took off. the man broke into a home, stole an s.u.v. and smashed through the garage door and after hitting a deadend ran on to the interstate 70. he tried to stop another car with a long gun and finally laid down the rifle but would not surrender. he was wrestled to the ground and another driver jumped in to help holding the suspect's legs until more deputies arrived. an oakland woman appears in court after being charged with child endangerment. she left her kids in the car while she gambled. the 37-year-old phaley nget was arrested on sunday after livermore police and firefighters found her three-year-old and 2-year-old daughters unattended, strapped in the car seat outside casino

580 in livermore. employees believe the kids were in the car for 30 minutes to an hour. they were not injured. investigators say it was 75 degrees outside at the time and the temperature inside the car was 81 and rising. >> a delegation is going to colorado springs to meet with united states olympic committee leadership about a potential bid forked summer games. representatives from san francisco and los angeles and boston and washington are attending an information session tomorrow. the olympic committee will give cities details of a possible bid. giant c.e.o. and mayoral advisor and venture capitalists are representing san francisco. the city is still in the exploretory process and the olympic committee will not decide until next year whether it will make a run for the 2024 games. it is warming up and meteorologist mike nicco is ahead with the forecast. there is something to the state of light colored loose fitting clothing. it is getting warm out here but

and notice how elsewhere it is light and variable and the northern wind that started the upwelling and we are still warmer-than-average we will not set a record like the last two days, we hit 67 on tuesday, we hit 68 degrees, that is the water temperature, another record high so we will be around 52 in bodega bay and 62 at half moon bay, five degrees warmer-than-average and six degrees warmer-than-average in monterey bay and the temperatures 8 probably continue to drop a little bit or cool if you will over the next couple of days. this is how it looks from sutro tower just a few of the thin veil of clouds still hanging around with 64 at what half and upper 60's in san francisco and oakland and san rafael, up to 80 in the east bay valley and temperatures are going to warm rapidly the next couple of hours under the total sunshine we see over san jose. in fact, strong warming will lead to us above-average temperatures after being below average for most of the week and

clear tonight and warmer than this morning and probably the coolest morning we will have in extended period of warm weather so although it peaks tomorrow we will stay above average away from the coast the better part of the seven-day outlook and then mid-50's if milpitas and 88 in san jose and low-to-mid 90's in gilroy and low-to-mid 80's for most the peninsula and 84 in menlo park and palo alto and 71 at half moon bay and up to the sunset in sausalito and san francisco, and 70 along the north bay coast with mid-80's to nearly 90 in the valleys and low-to-mid 80's for the shoreline but berkeley is the exception, and air conditioning inland, low-to-mid 90's and no more free air conditioning. headed to the game this afternoon, all this warm weather is coming 59 us from the south so we have mid-to-upper 90's lurking in the central valley and that will head our way tomorrow but today it is a game that is 74 to possibly 79 bit end of the game.
