total loss. pain could be seen in every face of the car carpenter family. they lived here for two generations. tonight around dinner time they started hearing popping noises. the fire investigators believe those sounds were two cars firing in the garage.hat's >> that's heart stoping. >> the fire marshall estimates $800,000 in damage. >> if it was windy we could have had a bigger problem. >> it shows him grabbing his garden hose as flames creeped down the hillside. >> if i don't put this out and the bigger trees catch fire it will be out of control and i won't be able to do anything with the garden hose. that's what i was thinking. >> as he sprayed the grass the heat grabbed at him. >> even as the flames went down you could roast

marshmellows on the hill. >> crews chugged bottle after bottle of water and others dumped it on their heads trying to cool off in the hundred degree heat. >> we went to a third alarm. >> thankfully no one, not even the family dog, was injured. and they will help the carpenters rebuild. in lafayette, abc7 news. tonight a wildfire burning in the sierra foothills has forced the evacuation of at least 50 homes in amador county near the border with el dorado county. it started about 4:30 and it is now 20% contained. this afternoon flames destroyed this home and two other buildings. 250 more struck tours are -- structures are threatened. this home was completely gutted. they are dealing with steep terrain and high temperatures. cal fire says it is fueled by dry brush and moving fast. tonight strike teams from

surrounding counties are on their way to the fire lines. there are early reports that a vehicle fire may have started this blaze. we did see record highs in some cities and tonight it has cooled off. this is a live look from our emeryville camera. sandhya patel has more on our record highs with a look at live doppler 7hd. >> we had four record high temperatures today. let me show you live doppler 7hd and i can tell you how warm or hot it got. patchy fog along the coastline otherwise skies are clear. look at the records for today. san francisco a new record at 85 degrees. the previous record for san francisco was 82 setback in 1973. moffett field broke its record, 95 today. a tie in richmond at 87. it was cooking in san rafael. 99 degrees. the previous record was set in 1975. antioch and livermore and concord up to 98 in napa and 94 in san jose. 89 degrees in oakland and half

france tomorrow to help broker a permanent cease-fire. tonight members of the bay area muslim community are reaching out to a man who suffered a devastating loss. 30 members of his family were killed in a single abc7 news reporter is live outside the blossom valley muslim community center. >> you can see a large group is gathered at the community center. they are observing the holy ramadan. that's why they are eating together. they are also offering words of support. a dentist living in san jose lost 30 of his family members in one day. threenerations of aunts, uncles and cousins were living under the same roof in the gaza strip. the airstrike hit their home and nobody survived. >> these are my distant cousins and they have known some of them. it is vicious to see 30 people

die at the same time, one family, one building. >> the muslim community of south sa together together to mourn relatives and others killed in the attack. his family members in gaza were doing the same when they were killed. >> i basically told them, i'm sorry for your loss. may god grant them [inaudible]. >> they are in our hearts. we are afraid of this striking all the time. >> he has other relatives in gaza he is worried about. he was last in the region two years ago and says it is nearly impossible for him to go now. the borders are sealed. the only thing he can do is pray and educate people about the conflict. in south san jose, abc7 news. a ufc fighter with a bout in san jose plans to fly to

israel and join the israeli army as soon as the match is over. he has a three-round feather weight fight and when it is over the 30-year-old will board a plane for israel. he lived his entire life there until 2009 when he moved to the bay area to train in mixed martial arts. he said it is difficult watching the fighting and not being able to help his country men and women. he believes itis duty as an israeli to defend his homeland month matter where in the world he is living. a bay area native is among four journalists detained in iran. she from marin county and has written for the chronicle. he was working in iran when he was taken into custody on tuesday. the reason is not immediately clear. you may remember the case of three uc berkeley hikers who were held in iran. they were released in september of 2011 after spending two years in prison. a third hi hiker, who you are

looking at there, was released one year earlier. one man helped turn the los angeles commute into a traffic jam that lasted three hours. the chp closed all lanes of the i-5 in east l.a. because of a man standing on an overpass. you can see him wedged between the freeway sign and the fence there. police feared he might jump and put a big air cushion beneath him. he was finally taken into custody without incident. a popular beach in cap -- cap paw toe law was shutdown when a mysterious object washed up shore. a yellow doughy substance showed up on the beach and a kayaker reported seeing it floating out in the water. at first people were afraid it was toxic so firefighters were called in to investigate. health officials believe it is a natural substance, and they lifted all restrictions at 7:00 this evening. this morning thousands of dead anchovies washed up on the

beach, but health officials say fish die offs are not really unusual this time of year. the great bull run is scheduled for tomorrow at therg. just like the event in spain. unless an animal rights group has its way. 3,000 people are expected to race through a quarter mile long track with bulls stampeeding behind them. they say it is possible that the bulls will be hurt or abused. they filed a lawsuit to stop it. >> the veterinarians we consulted say it is within the realm of possibility that an animal can get hurt. >> they have horse racing out here and rodeos throughout california. at those events they are on the animal's back kicking them with metal spurs. >> the humans are in more danger than the animals. no bulls have been hurt during the nationwide tour, but one man suffered a broken pelvis. still ahead, a drone gets close to a popular landmark.

needle was a drone. some people were amused by it while others were upset. abc news reporter cecilia vega has the story. >> right there high in the seattle skies is a drone. the f.a.a. is telling abc news that they are looking into the tiny remote controlled aircraft hovering above the observation deck of the famous space needle. curious tourists waived the mysterious flying object gave security quite a scare. police say a man launched the drone right out of his hotel room window. >> there was no malcontent or malice. >> it is just the latest incident raising questions about whether it is safe to fly drones above the crowded cities. take a look at this drone buzzing over the busy streets of new york last year. and it crash-landed nearly hitting pedestrians at the height of rushhere and there also have been close calls with airplanes.

just to give you the full affect. the visibility is great and here are your temperatures. 60s in santa rosa and it is still warm. fairfield and livermore in the upper 70s. concord 80 degrees. it is 11:00. a lovely view of coit tower. hot this weekend and cooler around the coast and the bay. and you are going to see a few high clouds and a little humidity as we hit the weekend. there are changes coming and you won't notice them. the hot air mass continues to remain right over us. the heat hangs on inland for saturday and for sunday. here is what you will notice over neat tonight and into tomorrow morning. patches of fog are around first thing in the morning. the following will pretty much clear out and come back in for the afternoon. the high clouds will start to increase and that means the humidity starts to come up slightly. it is breezier which does mean cooler weather at the coast. a little cooling around the bay, but you really don't get much cooling in our inland
