hours despite attack biz hamas. a cease fire brought a brief lull to the violence. palestinian officials say the death toll has risen above 1,000, most live civilians. the israeli death toll is 42. [chanting] >> also developing here in the bay area, an estimated 15 machine people gathered in san francisco's justin herman plaza to protest to the ongoing violence in gaza. demonstrators marched carrying signs and spreading their message for israel to stop attacking the palestinian people and for the u.s. to stop sending israel aide. we're now taking a live look at the group rallying at the plaza. pro-israeli groups say israel has a right to protect themselves against terrorist and hamas is dedicated to the destruction of israel. and we can still see people at

the plaza. the united states has closed and evacuated its embassy in libya as the security situation deteriorates in the capitol of tripoli. clashes between rival militias are becoming more violent. american traveler advised to steer clear of libya. here's more. >> it was a daring operation. 150 americans in a convoy driving from the u.s. embassy in tripoli across northern libya and into safety in neighboring tunisia. with a sufferance drone buzzing overhead and two f-16 fighter jets nearby. the evacuation so dangerous, u.s. marines were on standby ready to attack. >> because of the free, wheeling militia violence taking place in tripoli, a lot of the violence is around or embassy but not on the embassy, but nevertheless,

stadium. six different agencies worked to knock it down. fire spread across three businesses including a pallet yard. the fire is contained but the crews are looking for other hot spots. a wildfire burning in the sierra nevada foothills destroyed five homes. the sand fire has burned 1300 acres near to the -- since it broke out around 5:00 last night. the fire has forced evacuations of 250 homes north of the town of plymouth, which is 40 miles east of sacramento. officials have set up an evacuation center at the el dorado county fairgrounds. local restaurants, stores, and strangers donated food and water for the dozens of people who have nowhere else to go. >> the fire was coming up the hill and the wind was helping it. and that didn't bode well for our place. the sheriff came along and evacuated everybody. >> it's a bad circumstance but

el dorado county takes care of 0 its own. >> investigators are trying to determine if a burned car found by the riverbed ignited the fire. the rough terrain hampered efforts to corral the rains but the weather gave crews a break. >> with the temperatures decreasing and humid humidity going up, going to give the firefighters the opportunity to do direct line construction on the fire and get containment tonight. >> crews are focused on slowing the fires' march towards an historic mining town in el dorado county. the fire is 20% contained. live outside now as the summer heat streak continues. this is a look from the east bay hills camera. still sunny but yesterday's sizzle has subsided and a live picture from santa cruz showing a popular spot this weekend, many people are escaping the heat by heading to the beach. let's check in now with meteorologist frances dinglasan with live doppler 7hd.

>> good evening, everyone. still seeing clouds at the coast but lots lots of blue sky out t. high clouds are starting to move in. check out current temperatures right now. still 98 in fairfield. 98 in antioch. 97 in concord, and in livermore. but compared to yesterday, at this time, temperatures did take a tumble. we're down by double digits in many locations like sfo dropped 11 degrees, ten degrees cooler in oakland and in san jose and mountain view. now, that's the trend for tomorrow. i'll let you know how much cooler it will be and when we can getmer relief. >> the heat didn't slow down the bulls or people running for their lives during the great bull run in pleasanton today. the event grew protesters and runners. here's more. reporter: good evening.
