a fire is threatening hundreds of homes in amador and el dorado county since yesterday afternoon. firefighters have it 20% contained, to the they say it's gained intensity today. the fire is dangerously close to a community near the town of plymouth. it's already destroyed five homes in the area. 700 more homes have been evacuated. residents are stressed, sitting and waiting for firefighters to get the upper hand. >> it's scary. it's really, really scary right now. >> i have confidence in them. it's a matter of having patience. >> winds have helped the fire spread quickly and also causing air quality problems in sacramento. >> in the bay year, the heat is starting to ease it one today it was still very hot. frances dinglasan as more with a look at live doppler 7hd. >> good evening. we're seeing clouds at the coast. that will bring some relief to

some inland locations tomorrow as well, but check out how warm it was today. even though temperatures came down it was still 104 in ukiah, 100 in fairfield and in concord. check out antioch and livermore. both at 101. and still quite warm all along the coast with 71 in half moon bay and 72 in san francisco. what helped to bring temperatures down was the increased sea breeze, gusting from the west at 30 miles-per-hour. the sea breeze will be with us tomorrow so we'll see the trend of temperatures going down, and i'll let you know when we'll be closer to average with the accuweather forecast. >> park is open but barbecues and open flamers offlimits. governor brown asked all people, businesses and government offices, to cut their water use by 20%.

but some state agencies don't know if they're saving water. the associated press asked 11 of the state's biggest water-using agencies for records showing how much they've saved in the fir half of this year compared to last year. only four could produce complete data. the department of state hospitals, developmental services, veterans affairs, and the employment development department. vallejo police arrested man with a violent criminal past on suspicion of murdering a woman and attempting to murder her five early son. officers responded to an assault call around 2:00 a.m. at this home and found the boy and his 40-year-old mother hurt from an apparent violent attack. he woman died on the way to the hospital. her son is expected to survive. police spotted 43-year-old darryl wakefield around 9:00 a.m. in east vallejo and took him into custody. police say he knew the victims and is on parole for a burglary conviction. a plane based in cupertino

made a fiery emergency landing on a highway this morning, hitting a truck in the process. happened 20 miles north of reno this morning. the nevada highway patrol says the plane hit the truck and both caught fire. the pilot told first responders his experimental plane lost power shortly after takeoff. the plane is registered to 51 aero leasing in cupertino. the nevada highway patrol says the two people in the plane and the two people in the truck are all okay. now to the crisis in the middle east. israel has offered to extend a cease fire in gaza for 24 hours. it appears hamas has not agreed as rockets were fired from gaza into israel today. many homes gaza have been destroyed. sergio quintana is live from san francisco where palestine --

pro-palestinians are protesting. >> today's demonstration included a few thousand participants. they marched through downtown san francisco. this is a group of -- that mobilizes regularly when tension ratchets up between israelis and palestinians. this event started just after 1:00 this afternoon and snarled traffic as marchers marched all the way to the san francisco chronicle building and left a few posters there and then continued on to union square and then back here to justin hermann plaza. demonstrators say they support a cease fire between israel and the palestinians. >> should both sides stop? >> yes, yes, i'm not saying that. there shouldn't be any more killing. shouldn't -- because the only people paying for this is civilians. reporter: this demonstration continues here at justin herrmann plaza until 5:00 this

20,000 new market priced housing units is atapable but meeting the corresponding goal of 10,000 affordable housing units wail be harder. it's hurt by decreased state and federal subsidies and at the dissolution of some reattempt agencies. to help get the most out of every drop of water in the drought some ranchers may soon turn to earth worms. a pilot program is using earth worms to purify water used to clean cow weapons so it could be used to water crops. when a rancher cleans out cow stalls, the water, carrying manure, collects into storage tanks. the water is used to absorb wood shavings, and the worms eat the wood and what is left behind is cleaner water. not safe enough to drink but good enough for farming. >> irrigation water with drip irrigation and center pivots. >> if you looking to cut back on water use to help with the
