the muni bus driver tried to slam his brakes and swerved and hit another dump truck. this is what muni calls an arrest tick could you lated vehicle, basically two buses with an accordion connecting them in the middle. there are usually dozens of passengers be aboard. and one passenger tells me some people were thrown on the floor. a muni spokesman says a total of 20 passengers were injured, eight fepeople treated on scene the others taken to the hospital. there was glass everywhere. the passenger we talked to didn't want to go on camera, but he says he was riding with his daughter and describes the scene. >> we felt the skrerk from the busnd it caught us off guard and people started screaming and stuff. and then there was a big old -- the windshield was out, so

initially my thought was did a person go through the front. >> reporter: emergency crews say a person did not go through the window. the dump truck was quickly hauled away and the large bus eventually hooked up to a tow truck, as well. geary reopened to traffic probably about an hour ago foel or so. and muni tells me the bus driver has been questioned and will go through a drug and alcohol test and that is standard in these investigations. >> sergio, thank you. and take a look at this dramatic image. it's a vta bus on fire on the side of highway 101 in south san jose. it broke out in the rear of the bus just south of highway 85. the vehicle was headed to the bus yard, so fortunately there

weren't any passengers on board at the time. nobody was hurt. and you can see there sky 7 hd that fire also scorch some had grass, but the roadway wasn't damaged. the fire is under investigation. and a very unusual day regarding transportation. in antioch, a person is in critical condition after getting hit by a freight train. fire protection district responded and air lifted the patient to the hospital. again, in critical condition. also a decorated war hero who survived three tours of duty in iraq is now fighting for his life because of violence at home. >> when you're getting shot at regularly and blown up, the one thing you think about most when you have the time is your family and a white picket fence that some day you'll get. >> those are the words spoken by brandon. two years ago when he received a mortgage free home as part of a

program to help veterans wounded in combat. he was thrilled to get that house. but now violence is threaten to go take it all away. brandon was shot early this morning on golf course road. laura anthony joining us from walnut creek. >> reporter: he's a purple heart recipient and in critical condition. we understand his prognosis is pretty positive, but still a frightening and bizarre turn for a husband and father who survived so much in iraq. >> it's horrible, shocking. >> reporter: she lived across the street from brandon, the marine veteran and purple heart recipient shot multiple times while walking near his home. >> it's horrible that that would happen to him here.

that he would survive his tours of duty and then come here and get shot. >> reporter: he served three tours in iraq as a scout sniper instructor. he received his purple heart after suffering a severe head injury from an ied explosion. in 2012, abc 7 news featured he and miss family as they were moving in to their new authority fwanlg free home courtesy of a bank of america program to help veterans wounded in combat. at the time he said his focus even in the worst of times was his family. >> when you're getting shot at regularly and blown up, the one thing you think about most when you have the time is your family and a white picket fence. >> reporter: antioch police are releasing no information about the shooting. it's the city's fourth shooting in two days. laura anthony, abc 7 news. the crash of a small plane shut down runway traffic for a short time this morning. it happened just after 11:00.

the go the nose gear collapsed and caught fire. the pilot was able to keep the plane on the runway. no one of was hurt. cal firehouses some planes at this facility. all were grounded for a time until the crash scene was cleared up. five people were injured when an elderly driver lost control of his car on palo alto university avenue yesterday. that accident is raising a lot of concerns about senior driving and whether more restrictive laws are needed. sda david louie looked into this issue. >> reporter: is there ever a time when someone should stop driving? there is no law barring a 90-year-old or seen anior of an age, hoage however many are now taking classes. >> reporter: the 90-year-old

driver has prompted soul searching about when it's time to give up the car keys. some drivers may not realize how they're putting others at risk. >> one day one of our co-workers saw a senior driver leave here and she went through three red lights. so we talked to her the next day and she did give up the keys. >> reporter: laverne is 85. driving allows her to keep her independence. i asked her if she worries about the day when someone suggests she stop driving. she said she'll be able to make that decision on her own. >> i think i can be honest with myself if i realize, okay, you can't do it anymore. then i will stop. >> reporter: the dmv says its policy is to allow drivers to keep their licenses as long as are they're able to drive safely. starting at age 70, drivers must renew their license in person.

case and terrorism in america in general at the book passage tomorrow night at 7:00. a 70-year-old man in england is telling quite a story. he had to jump at 4500 feet as a glider collided with his and broke a wing. there you see him plummeting. he was actually tipped upside down and he had to let himself fall. he said debris was falling all around him. he eventually opened his parachute and managed to land safely in a wheat field just as a tractor was headed toward him. he escaped with one broken vertebrae and the man who shot these pictures was nearby taking pictures of birds. remember the mystery google barges, the one in portland, maine is no more. google is confirming that its barge docked in maine has been sold. the barge carries again dozens of old shipping containers that were joined to create a four story building.
