a traffic stop and pursuit in the east bay escalated into an officer firing his gun, killing a wanted man. good evening, and thank you for joining us. an alameda county sheriff's deputy this morning shot and killed a man in oakland near 105th and edes avenue. tiffani wilson is live from oakland with new details. reporter: well, matt, oakland police say the man who is in his early 20s was driving a 2001

silver volvo wanted in connection to a home invasion robbery and a pistol whipping last month. when they tried to pull him over, he effused and took off. ultimately this is the moment that matter. >> actually fleeing. [ gunshots ]es. >> shots fired. >> that was the call in alameda county sheriff's deputy made as he came into can tact with the suspect in a yard search. >> started this morning when the oak planned depth patrol officers observed a vehicle wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery, and a pistol whipping. >> oakland police say the driver of the silver volvo ill nord a traffic stop, then led officers on a pursuit. the suspect then dumped the car and took off running. thick fog grounded the police helicopter so they asked for k-9 support. the k-9 unit found the suspects.

shots fired. thety has eight years experience with the sheriff's department. when asked why he shot the suspect, police didn't give any details except to say the man was wanted in connection to a violent crime. police are still searching for a firearm. >> want to make sure that we have searched every area that we believe the suspect may have entered. >> neighbors just want the cycle of violence to stop. >> makes me very much concerned those type things happen. there are not only my son but others, small children, in this area, that want more out of life. >> three separate departments are investigating the shooting. in oakland, abc7 news. >> a san leandro police are searching for a man officers say sexually assaulted a teenager at an apartment complex. the victim says it happened yesterday afternoon inside a public restroom on waterfall way. >> this is so unique because

it -- in the restroom, i don't know a whole lot you can do to avoid it from happening. however, as citizens that are around her, that were out in that particular area or the office area, to just really be the eyes and ears for the community and look out for one another. >> this is where the agenda attack happened. the suspect is described only as man in his 20s, short black hair. anyone with information about the attack is asked to call san leandro police. the crisis in the middle east found a voice in san francisco today as hundreds of pro-israel demonstratores rallied at the civic center. the rally came on the same day when israeli rocket fire hit a united nations school in gaza, killing ten and injuring 30. speakers say the hatred hamas has for israel knows no bounds. >> they have no problem in sacrificing their own, as long as it serves the purpose of celebrating the killing of one more jew. or anyone who doesn't share

their belief. >> hamas has repeatedly demanded an end to the israeli block dade of gaza. and in near lay month of fighting over 1700 palestinians have been killed, 67 israelis have lost their lives. to developing news now. chinese media reports the death toll from a strong earthquake is now reached 367. this video shows the moment the earthquake hit today. nearly 2,000 people were injured. the magnitude 6.1 quake is reportedly the strongest quake to hit the area in 14 years. more than 2500 troops have been dispatched to the disaster region and the red cross is sending supplies. >> an american doctor stricken with the ebola virus is recuperating at emory university hospital in atlanta as preparations are underway to airlift a second infected american from liberia. here's the latest from atlanta. reporter: the first ebola patient ever in the u.s. now in his first full day of treatment

her in atlanta. dr. kent brantly, being cared for at emory university hospital. his room, isolated. his doctors covered head to toe like this. the director of the cdc saying everything possible is being done to keep the disease from spreading from here and from west africa, where it's already killed more than 700 people. adding that americans shouldn't be worried. >> it's understandable that with a deadly disease, people are concerned, but the plain truth is we can stop ebola. we know how to control it. >> the doctor's wife and siblings visiting the hospital but only allowed to see and talk to him through a glass partition. >> i know he was feeling a little bit better, and hopeful for that. >> there's a lot of optimism about his recovery, especially after seeing him walk from the ambulance into the hospital yesterday. now the same plane that brought brantly here from liberia, is heading back to get his

colleague, also stricken with ebola. doctors saying while there is no cure this is the best place to treat their symptoms, giving brantly and writebol the best chance of recovery. >> she is expected to arrive here at emory hospital by tuesday afternoon. for the second day in a row residents of toledo, ohio, are being told to avoid using tap water because of a dangerous amount of toxins in the city's water supply. the toxins were discovered yesterday. they're believed to have come from a huge algae growth in lake erie. stores are sold out of bottled water. red cross and ohio national guard are handing out free water. >> it's awful but we can get through it. >> i think it will be all right. as long as i get my water today i'll be all right. >> i don't have water mix baby doesn't eat. so that's going to be an issue. >> there's nobody asleep at the wheel and we are not going to get off of this until this whole thing gets solved no matter how long that it takes.

>> several restaurants are closed because they can't wash dishes or produce. more than two dozen local firefighters are helping fight a wildfire threatening hundreds of homes in northern california. san francisco fire department last night sent 27 people to help in the bald fire northeast of redding in shasta county, which has burned nearly 55 square miles. just five percent contained. officials sale those firefighters could stay on the fireline for a week. >> it's challenging and they really enjoy doing it. it's what they signed up for, and some of these firefighters that are going -- they're city firefighters but we have hired them from other departments. >> more than a other wildfires are burning in the state, including this one which has grown to more than 20 square miles, threatening 150 structures and forcing evacuations. >> the wildfires prompted governor brown to declare a state of emergency in 11 california counties. as of yesterday, the federal emergency management agency, or

fema, approved four federal grants to help cover the cost of fighting the flames. california could become the first state to allow people to take legal action to keep guns out of the hands of people who show signs they could harm themselves or others. a senate committee tomorrow is set to hear an assembly bill prompted by the isla vista shooting in may that left six people dead, including the gunman. the bill allows family members, healthcare providers to seek a restraining order to keep guns from people in danger. connecticut, indiana, texas, already have laws that let law enforcement seek to take guns from people determined to be dangerous. >> sales tax could go up in a city. >> a special way fans today got to share their fond memories of the stick. >> good evening, i'm frances dinglasan. we had cooler conditions today,

people living in san jose will likely decide on a quarter cent says tax increase in november. city council members are set to make a final decision in their meeting on tuesday on whether to make it a general tax measure that requires a simple majority vote or earmark the money for police and fire softs, which would need two-thirds approval. the city says the increase would

a texas woman's closet considered the largest in america is missing some pretty pricey items tonight. a burglar hit up to 3,000 square foot closet while socialite and businesswoman was out to dinner friday night. the thief nabbed three bags worth $60,000 each, and then filled them with expensive jewels, taking a million dollars worth of valuables. >> he took heirloom items that were passed to me from my husband's mother who passed away. i don't care about all this crap. i care about the stuff that was passed to me. >> she forgot to set the house alarm or lock her closet. police do not believe it's an inside job but the burglar knew exactly what he was looking for, taking out the glass in a downstairs restroom and heading straight for the closet. probably represent -- rent it out. >> now frances dinglasan has a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast.

and things are changing out there. >> we're seeing increasing clouds and we also saw the sea breeze so that did drive temperatures a little bit cooler compared to yesterday with this look at live doppler 7hd. i'm going to put it in motion so you see the clouds from the south. that's the monsoonal moisture, bringing a chance of thunderstorms and showers to the sierra. in fact during last few hours we saw lightning strikes as well east of bear valley and that will continue the next few days and bring us a chance of rain as well. i'll tell you a little pit more. we're looking at sfo, current temperatures, 50s and 60s and 70s. 71 in san jose, 76 in gilroy. half moon bay, 59, and actually very pleasant, beautiful day at accept cruz beach boardwalk. near 70. right now, 71 in santa rosa and napa. fairfield, 79. low 80s in concord and livermore right now, and just a couple days ago we saw triple

digits there. here's a look from emeryville. the high clouds are moving in, and the sea breeze will bring is increasing clouds to the marine layer will develop. slightly cooler numbers tomorrow, and then that slight chance of sprinkles. i'll let you know when to expect it. so overnight, the marine layer, sea breeze, clouds from the south, cloudy conditions tomorrow morning. that area of green could bring us a chance of drizzle, possibly even tomorrow morning and overnight. so, temperatures mainly in the 50s. 57 in san francisco. 59 in san jose. and here's what is going on. we have this area of low pressure. it's wrapping the moisture from the gulf of california, and that's going to bring us the shower chances over the next few days. the forecast animation shows a best chance of monday night into tuesday. but tomorrow afternoon, look for some thunderstorm activity in the sierra, south of lake tahoe

as well, and then tomorrow night we could even get some sprinkles up towards ukiah, cloverdale, and around the bay. the best chances are tuesday morning for the commute. you can see it spreading throughout the north bay and late tuesday morning. highs tomorrow, warm but cooler compared to today. so 72 in san jose, 82, gilroy. look for low 70s on the lower part of the peninsula. along the coast, near 60 degrees. 61, downtown san francisco, increasing cloud cover as well. low 70s through sonoma and napa and east bay, low 70s. endland, low 80s. working up through the week with the accuweather seven-day forecast. just watching the shower chances through tuesday. >> kind of unusual to have that this time of the year but that's been happening. >> a very unusual pattern but we keep getting the subtropical moisture. >> thank you.
