live from the kgo broadcast center. >> good afternoon everyone. sky 11 hd overhead as a broke broke out near san francisco's united nation's plaza. several construction workers went to the hospital. >> this happened on the side of

former renwa hotel. our reporter is there live with the very latest. leeann. >> well the fire caused major disruptions to the area. fortunately no one was living inside that building but a few -- sorry about that. a few construction workers were hurt. the cause right now unknown. >> eight construction workers were treated at the scene. seven were taken to local hospitals. >> there were complaints of smokes inhalation. there was nothing life threatening. >> no one was living at the old hotel. it was being worked on mostly dem oliti demoition and welding. at that point fire fighters decided it was too dangerous to be inside and tackle it from the outside. >> there's no life safety issues. there's no -- there's no personal property inside, you know.

it's a building which is obviously very valuable. however it's not worth risking any lives for. >> reporter: at one point there were several explosions heard presumably from propane tanks inside the building. several near by businesses were told to evacuate. >> we were told to tíleave. you're closed for business now. >> reporter: those living just across the street were told to shelter in place. >> from that end from the beginning of there and then it came over and started working the way down. >> reporter: fire fighters also tried to cool down the building's faus aud. >> the heat from the fire drives out the mortar that can cause mortars to crack then makes the building unstable. >> once it was put out, fire fighters went inside to check for hot spots. that's what they are doing at the moment. then at some point they'll have to go back inside the building

to make sure that it is structurally safe. i'm live in the tender loin district of san francisco. abc news 7. >> thank you. fire investigators are looking into what caused a pier to go up in flames at the martinez marina. they say it was definitely man made because there was no electrical equipment or lightning strike where it started. this broke out just before 11:00 last night on the pier's west end off of north court street. it took fire fighters three hours to knock it down. nobody hurt but the pier is a popular spot for fishing. that's off off limb iits for no >> police there would be more victims when a man was accused of sexually abusing a seven and ten-year-old girl. the parents told police when they said he touched them inappropriately. investigators say he worked as a handyman in a complex and lured the children to a secluded area. police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

>> with the police staffing shortage in san jose. home burglars are pretty low priority unless you have security camera video. a home was hit yesterday. the owner got the very clear images of the burglar in action. our reporter is live with the story. video surveillance makes all the difference. >> reporter: oh, boy you got that right. the burglar got his 15 minutes of fame as the old adage goes. thanks to six, six security ca s cameras in this house. the homeowners posted its images on social media sites like fugitive watch and next door. so a lot of people saw what this burglar looked like including police and now you will too. this knucklehead. now he's trying to pry open the the door to the garage with a shovel. that doesn't work. >> ryan levy showed us the

security camera video on his ipho iphone. clear crisp images of a man who burglarized his home yesterday. here is a better shot of what happened before the man broke into his house. this video taken from one of the four cameras mounted outsize his home. the man paces anxiously. he tried to kick in a kitchen door. he picks up a shovel and tries to pry open a door. he throws a rock through a glass door. levy also has two cameras in his home which captures the man going through his belongings. >> he didn't get much. he got a watch case with some watches and cuff links. >> the man is scene walking away with his loot on one of the two cameras mounted on the front of levy's home. you can see his car at the top of the video. take a look again at the burglar. these close up shots from a neighborhood blog and also on

youtube posted by the levys last night. there will be no problem identifying him. >> people are going to know this guy. they are going to know where he stays. you know? levy says that detectives who saw these images seemed almost immediately to recognize who he is. he hopes they'll arrest him real soon. >> spending, you know, $600 on a can a camera system will probably end up having this guy convicted. >> levy was told by police the man may be a painter and that he has outstanding warrants. abc 7 news, dick lee. >> pretty amazing. investigators are releasing few new details about a police shooting over the weekend in east oakland. a county sheriff deputy killed the suspect yesterday. that man's family is already reaching out to a prominent civil rights attorney. our reporter joins us from oakland police headquarters with more. >> reporter: no fewer than three agenciesb"éz are investigating officer involved shooting, including oakland police. today we understand

investigators are interviewing the deputy who shot that suspect early yesterday. they are trying to find out what led up to his firing of multiple gunshots. >> the shots could be heard on the police radio early sunday morning. it happened just from 6:00 a.m. near 105th avenue. according to oakland police, officers tried to stop the suspect earlier two hours earlier when he drove a silver volvo. soon after a asheriff's deputy located the suspect in the back yard. the deputy fired his gun killing the suspect. >> shots fired. >> police say the suspect did not have a weapon at the time of the shooting but maintained he may have stashed one somewhere in the neighborhood. >> certainly we're concerned involving weapons because this vehicle is associated to a home

robbery that occurs several weeks ago. >> oakland attorney said he already received a call from the man shot by the deputy. >> the mere fact that there was a home invasinvasion in and of f would not justify the shooting of a suspect unless the offeice were in fear of his life. police are not releasing the same of the suspect that was killed. >> the family of former cal football player plans to file a wrongful death suit against the rej ants of the university of california. he died during an off-season run. his lawyers argue he demonstrated symptoms during the run and tied as a result of excessive thickening of the heart muscle. this is one of the most common

causes of death in young athletes. cal says since they have not seen the impending lawsuit, they cannot comment. >> on saturday, stadium officials got parking and traffl be like. i was there. it was a challenge. they'll get it figured out. nearly 49,000 fans were there at the new stadium for earth quake soccer match. >> someone complains on social media about long waits leaving the stadium with hour plus waits leaving the train. a spokes person admits the huge crowds led to rough rides for customers. >> our light rail service was able to deliver 8,300 people to their destinations safely. that was a positive. some people did have to wait in line for a longer amount of time and some people were on this one train. the train went down. it lost power and when it powered back up, the ac didn't

come back on. so that was one train and that ride for people was pretty uncomfortable. >> bta is building a pocket track to allow for more trains to help with all of the those game day crowds. >> now, today fans were back in the stadium this time all of their 9er fans. sky 7 hd showing a long line. these fans were waiting to get into the 49ers first practice at the new venue. about 10,000 fans were chosen in a lottery system to get today's free tickets. most seemed really impressed with the 9ers new home. >> i love what the stadium looks like. as far as the weather, there's no comparison. its great to be able to sit and enjoy and not have the blowing wind and cold. >> candlestick has all of the history. levy will go all the history. >> it's a beautiful stadium. >> the 49ers first pree season game is on the road this nurse in baltimore.

downtown san francisco will have a high of 69 in the north bay look for clouds lippingering an once again maybe a shower or so well to our north. highs in the north bay generally in the low 80s. over in the east bay we will see mid to upper 70s. in the inland east bay we will have mid-80s to 90s. here is the seven day forecast will get gradually warmer as the weekend approaches. the warmest days will be sunday and monday where inland highs will top out in the mid-90s. a much more typical southern pattern than what we've seen today. i am enjoying this release from the heat we had last week. >> thank you spencer. >> we have some very exciting news to share here at abc 7. today we announced a cl collaboration with the top spanish language station in the bay area allowing us to work together on stories of interest for both viewers.

>> this is abc 7 news. >> wild fires and mud slides are causing big problems across the state. especially in southern california. in san bernardino county authorities are going from one buried car to another searching for anybody that might be trapped in floodwaters or mud slides. more than 30 homes have been damaged. flash flooding claiming at least

one live so far. our reporter has more now from los angeles. >> reporter: flash flooding sending a river of mood and debris through southern california. swallowing cars, campers, and vans. >> unbelievable. >> reporter: thunder storms brought flash floods, rain coming down fast and furious as much as 4 inches fell in just one hour. 48-year-old lee was killed after the rushing water swept his car away. >> the flooding cut off access to two mountain towns in the county east of los angeles. >> this is the worst we've had since at least 1969. >> reporter: thousands stranded monday. authorities urging residents to stay put while crews clear the roads. >> i really don't even know what to say about it. it is what it's. >> reporter: jay got married saturday and cut his las vegas honeymoon short. his dream home now a mud pit and

the family pets are missing. >> both of my dogs are gone. >> reporter: all of that water is desperately needed elsewhere in the state. fire fighters battling more than a dozen wild fires burning in northern and central california. a state of emergency after lightning struck the most recent flames. 100 square miles have been charred an at least eight homes destroyed. defying mandatory evacuation orders and refusing to leave, some homeowners are sticking around to defend their homes. >> we're keeping the pets close. >> reporter: fire fighters say more evacuations are likely. right now the wild fires are threatening more than 700 homes. abc news, los angeles. >> right dead center of the road. >> look at this incredible video. a fire fighter captured his dramatic escape from the fire in redding on friday. three fire fighters were forced

vierious. he showed up this morning complaining a high fever and gastrointestinal problems. the man had recently been to west africa. he been isolated for medical screenings. late this afternoon, a doctor said odds are he did not have the disease. they are on high alert after the disease sickened 1800 people killing 187 of them. the doctor being flown to atlanta to be treated for the ebola virus says he's improving thanks in part to another miracle drug. another american who also got that drug is expected to arrive in the u.s. tomorrow. our reporter is live with more now from atlanta. >> reporter: a second american ebola patient heading home to the u.s. na getting on this medical evacuation in liberia traveling to atlanta for treatment. >> still fighting. still walk but able to sit up

and receive treatment and even eat a little bit and take in fluids. >> today we're learning more about an experimental serum and she and her colleague were given in liberiliberia. it was manufactured in san diego and never tested on humans but in a desperate effort to save their lives, sos sources tell uy took it and worked many minutes leaving to a dramatic improvement. >> the hearing that he recovered and is doing better is terrific news. >> but experts stress there is no proven cure for ebola. doctors deciding both americans have a better chance at survival if their symptoms are treated here in the u.s. rather than west africa where the outbreak is surging out of control. experts say they are confident though the disease will not spread here. they know what they are do. it's safe. p

at least 380 people killed. that death toll is expected to rise. >> the australian government is getting involved in an unusual case involving a baby with down's syndrome. seven month old gamy and his twin sister were born in thailand via a surrogate. his surrogate mother says when the biological parents found out he had down's syndrome they left him in thailand while taking the healthy baby girl back to australia. couple said they never knew he exists but the surrogate says that's a complete lie. she claims they asked her to abort the boy. >> this is my baby. he grew in my tummy. it would be a sin. this is not his fault. why did he have to suffer like this. >> officials are now trying to determine if gamy can be granted australian citizenship to an organization can bring him to

it used to be a very big problem. yes, it is generally illegal. there are state laws around this. most cities and counties have their own laws. basically the problem is if you have them showing up and taking the recyclables out of your cans first of all they throw all the other garbage around and then the money that's going to help pay for the whole program ends up getting eaten up by the person stealing it so it is considered the considered theft. the city of oakland and san francisco say it's threat. in san francisco if you go to the website and county of san francisco, they actually have a form you can fill out about the threat. >> oh, my goodness. >> so they are used to seeing it. you should report it. >> all right. greno asks via facebook, i got a bank app where you take a picture of an app and deposit it into my account. what happens if there's a glitch and i bounce checks. >> that's the problem. two things hire. when you use the app to take a picture of the check and send it

8:00 with bachelor in paradise and 10:00 mistresses followed by abc 7 news at 11:00. there's a new fashion trend in japan, the mail online reports it's called the cavity pose. that's when you pose for photos your hand pressed against your cheek as if you have a toothache. models are apparently striking the cavity pose on fashion magazines and social media. wasn't that that bob hope thing. i think he used to do that. efforts are under way to plug several cracks in a county dam before it gets worse. those cracks caused concern over the weekend prompting a flash flood warning for a brief time. the areas considered to be at risk are southwest to the town of twaineheart. >> reporter: this afternoon right beside twaineheart a number of engineers checking on the damage done to the dam. crews are trying to reduce the

levels of the lake by 10 to 15 feet. part of the rock footing holding one of the side cracked this morning just before 11:00 a.m., a dam operator reported that there were cracks in the dam and that quote, a fire hose worth of water as is throwing through the cracks. the operator heard loud booms near the reservoir. right now, the down of twainheart is not in any danger but sullivan creek and areas next to it could be impacts especially when they release water from the lake. according to the president of the association, there's no danger in the dam breaking. >> the water will be will be around what it would normally be in a winter storm. however we're in the middle of the summer in a drought so it will be abnormal to see this type of water flow. we want to get that information out. so we don't get anybody in a pool who might be out for a little dip and they see a

county wild fire friday. >> a different truck from the redding fire department got caught in the wild fire friday night. it is growing rapidly, too. 30,000 acres with zero% containment. this amazing picture of the fire was taken by a redding fire fighters. the area burning east of redding under a mandatory evacuation order. eight homes are gone. bay area fight fighters are on the lines trying to save others. >> the fire in shasta county was sparked by lightning. there was concern more lightning could occur as red flag warnings go up in the area. >> let's get right to the live doppler 7 hd. first of all we have an area of rainfall over in the central sierra. that includes lake tahoe area. so far though we're not picking up any lightning strikes. that's good news. temperatures are a little bit
